"Today our hearts are heavy because we lost two members of our BRPD family, MONTRELL JACKSON and MATTHEW GERALD. MONTRELL JACKSON was 32 years old and had been serving BRPD for a decade, and MATTHEW GERALD was 41 years old and had been serving for less than a year. Both of these men were assigned to the Uniform Patrol Bureau and were great examples of what it means to protect and serve – a mission they demonstrated through their work at the department and in their daily lives.
As Chief Dabadie said at this afternoon’s press conference, it is a sad day for all those in our law enforcement family, both within BRPD and beyond, as we face this senseless act of violence. During this difficult time, our prayers continue to be with all those affected by today’s shooting, including especially the loved ones of MONTRELL JACKSON and MATTHEW GERALD, as well as each and every member of our department and our community. We ask you to join us in prayer both for those affected, and for peace across Baton Rouge and our entire nation."
