POLICE HAD TO BREAK UP A MAYBACH AND DEF JAM FIGHT AT THE BET HIP-HOP AWARDS TAPING YESTERDAY.

I cannot even get any freelancers to go to the hip-hop awards to rep me anymore. What's going on?? They are saying that the BET HH awards are getting "too ghetto." Being Ghetto is the best part.

Melissa at the AJC reports that at some point toward the end of the BET Hip-Hop Awards Saturday night, rap kingpin Rick Ross and Def Jam executive/Atlanta MC Young Jeezy allegedly got into a confrontation backstage that continued into the parking lot.

Though most fans gathered in the Atlanta Civic Center for the taping of the show were unaware of any unsettling events, those trying to leave the building found it on temporary lockdown while the situation unfolded.

Rapper Funkmaster Flex claimed to have a prime view of the skirmish and quickly took to Twitter to spread the news.

“Jeezy and Rick Ross just had words backstage!! Pushing and shoving!!” he tweeted, then two minutes later added, “Beef just spread to the parking lot!”

Messages left with the Atlanta police were not returned as of this posting, but it has been reported that no shots were fired and no injuries resulted from the altercation.

Neither Jeezy nor Ross was arrested, though both have had a few run-ins with the law. Jeezy was arrested in 2005 for carrying a concealed firearm without a permit and in 2008 for DUI, while Ross was arrested in 2008 for gun and marijuana charges, and in 2011 for possession of marijuana as well.

Though the timeline of the fight is unclear, Ross turned out an incendiary – and shirtless – performance of “Hold Me Back” and “Ice Cold” with Omarion that will air on the show Oct. 9.

That's not all. Multiple sources who witnessed the fray confirmed to MTV News that Ross' protégé Gunplay was also involved in fisticuffs with members of 50 Cent's G-Unit camp. Gun was seen with visible wounds and a witness told us that the Miami MC was put into handcuffs and detained, but a separate source close to Gunplay told us that he was not arrested.

Ah....Rappers! Oh well, Rozay has been here in Naija too long. Now he's fighting Jeezy. Glad the REAL SHOTS were not FIRED! Pls set some examples, guys! I discovered Jeezy in the parking lot of the Hot 1079 in ATL in 2004 selling his shirts and tapes. JUAN LUIS GUERRA LEADS THE 2012 LATIN GRAMMYS!

The AP reports that Dominican singer, songwriter and producer Juan Luis Guerra is the leading nominee at the 2012 Latin Grammy Awards.

A host of Latin music artists filled the Belasco Theater stage in Los Angeles Tuesday to announce the Latin Recording Academy's nominations for its 13th annual Latin Grammy honors. Mexican pop duo Jesse & Joy, Colombian rocker Juanes and Norteno group Los Tucanes de Tijuana were among the musicians participating.

Several of the presenters were also nominees. Guerra, who wasn't on stage, has six nods, followed by Jesse & Joy with five. Juanes, Ricardo Arjona, Edgar Barrera, Carla Morrison, Arturo Sandoval, Ivete Sangalo and Caetano Veloso earned four nominations apiece.

This year's awards allow for 10 nominees, rather than five, in the general categories of record, album and song of the year, as well as best new artist.

The Latin Grammy Awards are to be presented Nov. 15 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and broadcast live on Univision.

MTV is reporting that Katy Perry has been crowned Billboard magazine's Woman Of The Year 2012.

Following in the footsteps of Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Black Eyed Peas star Fergie, the publication's editorial director Bill Werde described K-Pez as "one of the most exciting and inspiring artists in the industry."

He continued: "Katy Perry broke into the industry not even five years ago, and has already accomplished more than most artists can hope for in an entire career.

"We are thrilled to celebrate these incredible achievements and her amazing past 12 months by presenting her with the Billboard 'Woman Of The Year' Award."

Werde added: "With what seems like a never-ending supply of record-breaking, chart-topping hits, coupled with her unique and fresh style, Katy Perry is hands-down one of the most exciting and inspiring artists in the industry today."

Katy will now officially receive the award at the Billboard Women in Music event in New York City on 30th November.

Bam! Yet another artist that hits the nail on the head or is it the jackpot? I met Karmin, a pop duo from the USA at Kiss 92.5FM Toronto's Wham Bam in August 2012. As soon as I saw Sean Cordner, my PR pal at Sony coming towards me with them, I knew this had to be good.

Before that day, I had only seen Karmin on SNL as an emerging group. I interviewed Amy and Nick who are engaged and that intv is coming. I asked her about the hair and other music stuff, then I went home and I was just rocking to their music like crazy on my flight home to Nigeria. It was my last days in my 5 year stay in Canada.

Now in Nigeria, I picked up Rolling Stone today and there's Amy on the COVER as READER'S CHOICE! YAY!!!!! OMG, Have y'all noticed that everyone I interview becomes VERY VERY VERY famous?

Cool FM is this exciting radio station in MY COUNTRY Nigeria  that has captivated me since my 38-year arrival being away living in North America.

Back to Cool FM, this is the Essence of what a radio station should be. Having worked in FM music radio myself at V103FM Baltimore and others plus one year at Radio Nigeria's Premier FM in 2006-2007, I know the needs of the listener.

They call themselves "A radio network with a dynamic and happy approach to broadcasting... We believe that "radio should be fun!" and RADIO should really be fun. Cool FM is the BOMB!

One of the popular personalities at one time over there, Dan Foster, an American from Baltimore who moved to Nigeria joined Cool FM Lagos in 2000, quickly became popular with Nigerian listeners. A year later, he received an award for Best Radio Presenter of the year. He won the 2003, 2004, and 2005 Nigeria Media Merit Awards for 'Best Radio Personality'. He has also been recognised by the City People Awards: a respected organisation known for recognising outstanding individuals who have touched the lives of citizens in the community, they have named him “Media Person of the year” in 2004 and again in 2005.

Cool FM has stations in Port Harcourt, Lagos and Kano. That will be every corner of Nigeria basically. One of the ON AIR PERSONALITIES named Kaylah has become a real friend of mine on twitter since I was in Toronto, Canada. She is so dynamic and professional on-air, reminding myself of what I was as a young broadcaster. The station turned 14 on September 16th and u can watch the video below. REMEMBERING TORONTO, CANADA'S RECORD STORE ICON "SAM THE RECORD MAN."

I lived in Canada 5 years and always heard his name. It was synonymous to the old time record store competing with the big guns. "Sam the Record Man" was Sam Sniderman. He died this week.

Generations of music-lovers who once frequented Toronto's iconic Sam the Record Man store regarded the owner's retirement 12 years ago as the day the music died.

Now, after a career that spanned seven decades, people everywhere are paying tribute to Sam Sniderman, who died Sunday at 92.

Sam the Record Man, who had stores across the country, "was the last of the great Canadian showmen that were able to establish themselves as household names purely through the force of their personality," close friend Brian Robertson, chairman emeritus of the Canadian Recording Industry Association, said Monday.

"He was a mentor to literally hundreds of Canadian artists and musicians and the Yonge St. record store and Sam's presence there was the centre of the Canadian music industry's universe for over three decades."

With new-release, foreign, classical, folk, ethnic and short-run platters everywhere, "you could spend a lifetime going through records that Sam forgot," former Toronto mayor David Crombie said.

"Sam kept his eye on the street and wasn't shy about making sure the city was doing the right thing," said Crombie, who was mayor from 1972-78.

SEAN 'DIDDY' COMBS has put his Manhattan, New York apartment on the market for a whopping $8.5 million (GBP5.3 million)

The rap mogul and entrepreneur bought the one-bedroom pied-a-terre for $3.8 million (GBP2.4 million) in 2005, according to public records, and the listing information, obtained by RealEstalker.com, suggests the pad on the 66th floor of the Park Imperial building features a media lounge and a piano room.

The place is also "fully customized for the most sophisticated living," and comes with a nine-foot flat-screen TV and panoramic city and Central Park views.

Def Leppard Mourns Loss of Frequent Collaborator K Decent.

 

DEF LEPPARD star VIVIAN CAMPBELL has paid tribute to the band's frequent collaborator DICK DECENT following his recent death.

Keyboard player Decent, who also performed with Joe Elliott and Phil Collen in David Bowie tribute band the Cybernauts, has passed away after a long illness.

Now Campbell has spoken out to mourn his pal with a statement that reads, "It is with great sadness that I heard of the passing of Dick Decent, super-talented musician, friend, and occasional keyboard player for Def Leppard. He was a young man and he should have lived a lot more life. 

Our time here is short and never fully in our control." Decent fell ill in 2009 when he suffered severe side effects from an antibiotic, and in December (11) the English rockers staged a benefit concert to raise money for his treatment.

First awarded in 1949, they were originally referred to as just the "Emmy Awards" until the first Daytime Emmy Award ceremonies were held in the 1970s, and the word "primetime" was added to distinguish between the two.

CONGRATS: DRAKE WILL BE GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL LATER THIS MONTH.

Coach Drake is back at it again and as you know this is not his first time coaching a net ball game. Drake coached a celebrity volleyball game in Toronto last March to raise money for the Boys and girls club of Scarborough and I covered that.

This time he coached University of Kentucky to a win and talked about his high school courses he's been taking so as to graduate later this month. Watch the videos.

Drake attended the Forrest Hill Collegiate Institute which is a Toronto high school his mom Sandy Graham taught at. There is Sandy and my son KJ at an award show in 2010. Drake however dropped out and did not graduate to go become an actor. Just like Fantasia and others, he followed suit to get his education. Congrats Drake!

HAS CHIEF KEEF'S CAREER HAS JUST ABOUT ENDED LIKE LIL JO JO'S DEATH!

Chief Keef, a talented teen rapper linked to some bad Southside Chicago gangs is being investigated by Chicago Police after tweets making fun of JoJo's murder"and some Lupe Fiasco references. He has a MAJOR record and distribution deal with Interscope. A reliable source at that label tells me "his days are numbered at that label. ""He does not give the label a good image after this murder"" my source says.

""The axe may be coming down soon on his career because of this murder"" say many industry pals. This same shyt has been going on in Rap music for ever. Didn't TuPac rap that he focked Biggie's wife Faith Evans, then he got shot'and lived? How about my former city of Toronto where the rap verses flow between the Mount Olive and Jamestown Crips? The Canadian gangs are more like wanna bees and mostly dumb. They never get record deals.

Gangsta rappers evolved during the NWA era and most of what I saw then was good rap verses aimed at society's ills against the black community and not a rival rapper as they do today. OMG, I can't even watch the vids anymore. Twitter has now made it worse when gangs in Toronto's Scarborough Galloway area tweeted how they were coming uninvited to a party where 25 were shot leaving two dead on July 16th 2012. By tweeting a location tells people where you are, something Lil JoJo did the nite he was gunned down.

So what's Interscope saying publicly? The label's silent. Afterall they sign all the gangsta rappers.'People don't care for the genre anymore. Líl Reese is part of the problem, another rapping kid in Chi town signed to Keef's Glory Boys Entertainment. To top it off 50 Cent tweeted that Keef should come see him. I wrote 50 to stay out of it. These kids are dying!!!! EVERYWHERE!

OVER THE WEEKEND, KEEF POSTED A PIC OF HIM AND A GROUPIE ENGAGED IN ORAL SEX WHERE THE GIRL WAS GIVING HIM A BLOW JOB. HIS INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT GOT CANCELED! WHAT AN EMBARRASSMENT TO THE LABEL.

MINDLESS BEHAVIOUR SPOTTED AT FSO: LOOKING OLDER

For Sister's Only (FSO) has been going on since 1996 at the V103FM CBS radio franchises. It is a woman's weekend expo. I attended many. The boys were spotted on day one with their fans and everyone was looking good and more mature. As you know I met with Mindless in 2011 and plan to bring them down here to Nigeria soon. The boy-ish look is fading and we can even see my baby Princeton's whole face now. LOL--MsKemi  

FOOLISHNESS ALL THE WAY: WHY WAS LÍL JOJO'S FUNERAL GANG THEMED???

Now I was really pissed off to hear all this!! What the HELL? Police helicopters hovered overhead and unmarked squad cars patrolled the streets, tensions erupted at the funeral of slain teen rapper Joseph “Lil JoJo” at a funeral parlor about 5 1/2 miles north of Saturday’s protest.

Chicago police had to clear the funeral home when mourners surged the casket, nearly tipping it over. Outside, some mourners smoked weed in the parking lot, and police ended up confiscating a loaded .45-caliber pistol.

Lil JoJo’s funeral on Friday wound south to Mount Hope Cemetery, and police got calls of shots fired from a car at 115th and Kedzie. There also were reports of someone waving a gun out of a car window.

Police closed down several blocks of 115th Street near Fairfield on Friday, and officers from Chicago, Cook County and Merrionette Park stopped cars outside the cemetery, searching people. A gang disturbance was reported at a gas station at 111th Street and Talman, where police found the loaded pistol.

THE MURDER OF CHICAGO'S ASPIRING RAPPER L'IL JO JO CONTINUES TO LEAVE A DENT IN THE RAP MUSIC INDUSTRY.

It's been a week now since the brutal murder of yet another aspiring rapper. We've seen L'il Phat shot to death 20 times, Slim Dunkin over a piece of candy, Poppa C shot dead outside Trae the Truth's concert and even Abdulle Elmi shot dead and thrown in the middle of a residential street at 4am in Toronto. Why does this keep happening in the industry? 

First I don't like the fact that L'il JoJo was involved in a beef, then a gang affiliated beef and then holding a Tech9 and a Glock does not make matters better. This is the kinda shyt going on in Toronto's Mount Olive and Jamestown  and the Galloway sections. Young street rappers with obvious talent start beefing over record deals, territory and more shyt! 

They use social media so heavily to promote their beef messages.I am almost 50 and I got two children that rap and a nephew, all talented. These are mere kids who are using YouTube and Twitter to fuel the fire. Are gang investigatiors looking into these

JoJo real name Joseph Coleman had been feuding with rival rappers Lil Reese, Lil Durk and Chief Keef as well as with the Black Disciple street gang for months before he was fatally shot at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday near Chicago's 69th and Princeton in the Englewood neighborhood. 

Then there's the whole Chief Keef tweet that read  “Its Sad Cuz Dat N---- Jojo Wanted To Be Jus Like Us #LMAO.”  

Police are now looking at those tweets.

Chief Keep now called out Lupe Fiasco who also grew up in the same hood. What a mess! OR should I say what a fiasco!! Now 50 Cent has tweeted to Keef to come see him. FOR WHAT?? OMG! These rappers need leashes today. 

Witnesses said Coleman, 18, was riding double on a bike standing on the back when a car pulled up and someone fired six or seven shots. Coleman ran but was hit in the back before making it to a nearby home, where he later died outside as people screamed “JoJo!” witnesses said. 

A witness said the shots came from an tan, older model, four-door Ford Taurus that was riding low in the back. After Coleman collapsed, people came to his aid. There was little blood, but Coleman’s eyes were dilated, cold and fixed. “It was the like the look of death,” another witness said. 

When asked if he could hear them, Coleman attempted to nod. Paramedics arrived about 10 minutes later, witnesses said, and Coleman was still breathing and gurgling. But he later died.

MEDIA NEWS: THE FABULOUS VMA'S HAPPENED ON A WEEKDAY AND ALMOST COMPETED WITH OBAMA DNC SPEECH.

 

How great when we see such things happen when MTV airs it's LIVE video music awards on a weekday and the Democratic National Convention is going on at the same time with U.S President Obama about to deliver his keynote speech.

Both shows competed with Vice President Joe Biden's speech. WOW! What a nite! The MTV moved the East Coast broadcast of the Los Angeles show up an hour when programmers realized they would be up against President Barack Obama's acceptance speech unless they ended the two-hour show by 10 p.m.

Here I was up late as hell in Nigeria with my clock 5 hours ahead and WAITING to see all outcomes. It was FABULOUS!--MsKemi

The Nigerian Broadcasting Commission just censored a good music video and banned it from TV knowing that Channel O, MTV Base and YouTube will still be an access to viewers.

Some downright shallow mentality Nigerian Gospel singer went nuts attacking one of the hottest artists in town right now, stating that their music vids could increase rape cases in Nigeria.

When I examined the same concept in my former city of Toronto where a cop and a Mayor's niece addressed the dressing like a "slut or whore" as encouraging rape cases, I will rather go with that notion than some video.

Don Jazzy whom I interviewed earlier this year, also the CEO of Mavin records and one of his artists Wande Coal have a video called "Go Low" and it's quite steamy matching the industry standards.

The female gospel singer Kenny Saint Best/Brown even bitched that if the artists don't reduce that amount of nudity, they will be "stopped by GOD!" LMAO! Even God loves nudity as he sits down in his heavenly palace. Ummm...did Adam and Eve come clothed in Genesis 1? AMEN!!
