Shocked when I saw this device used here yesterday mostly used overseas in US/Canada and now with 5 total bombs in 90 days in Kano, another one yesterday was averted while 2 more went off. The police wrote on their Facebook page below:
#NPFalert Following the spate of incidents in #Kano, Nigeria Police Forcehave stepped up patrols and surveillance in the ancient city and other cities across the nation. Police operatives are carrying out both overt and covert operations nationwide, while special teams are carrying out sweeping raids on suspected terrorist hide outs. Citizens are enjoined to remain vigilant and continue to support the Security Forces by promptly giving information on suspicious person(s) or activities. Policemen on duty at North-West University, Kano at 1:00pm today 27.07.2014 averted a bomb attack on the school. The vigilant police officers spotted a suspicious young female dressed in a flowing hijab approaching the school gate. They immediately isolated her, the explosives stripped around her body went off. Only the female suicide bomber died in the incident, 5 policemen sustained minor injuries and has been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
CITIZEN ARE ADVISED TO BE VIGILANT
As part of on-going investigations into the various terror related incidents that occurred in Kano, Police operatives in the ancient city have arrested five (5) male suspects for their complicity in the attacks.
Two were arrested in connection with the foiled bomb attack at Isyaku Rabiu Mosque, while three were arrested in connection with the attack at St Charles Church. All suspects are currently undergoing interrogation.
Intensive patrols are ongoing, citizens are advised to be vigilant and report any suspicious person(s) or activities to security forces.
