#HNNHealth #Ebola infected Healthcare worker was in FULL PROTECTIVE GEAR. What went wrong?

A Texas health care worker who was in full protective gear when they provided hospital care for an Ebola patient who later died has tested positive for the virus and is in stable condition, health officials said Sunday. If the preliminary diagnosis is confirmed, it would be the first known case of the disease being contracted or transmitted in the U.S.

Dr. Daniel Varga, of the Texas Health Resources, said during a news conference Sunday that the worker wore a gown, gloves, mask and shield when they provided care to Thomas Eric Duncan during his second visit to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. Varga did not identify the worker and says the family of the worker has "requested total privacy."
Varga says the health care worker reported a fever Friday night as part of a self-monitoring regimen required by the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He said another person also remains in isolation, and the hospital has stopped accepting new emergency room patients.

Duncan, the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the U.S., died Wednesday in Dallas.

Judge Clay Jenkins, Dallas County's top administrative official, said the unidentified health care worker is a "heroic" person who "was proud to provide care to Mr. Duncan." He said the health care worker's family has requested privacy because they are "going through a great ordeal."

With regards to the protective gear, there are even more questions to be asked now. Especially my critic when I told Toronto Eastern hospital that their preparedness tweet was incorrect as only one person out of 3 had protective gear on assessing a potential deadly infected patient looking at what Patrick Sawyer did here to the First Consultants hospital staff.  Listen here to my recording

#HNNCrime Why did Gunmen KILL Gov Rotimi Amaechi's Uncle? #HNNNigeria

Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi

The people of Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State have been thrown into mourning following the murder of Mr. Sabinus Odu, an uncle to the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.

Odu, the Vice-Principal of Community Secondary School, Aluu, was killed earlier in the week by some suspected assassins.

The deceased, whose pastime was hunting, had gone to the bush to check on a trap before he was killed.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, told journalists on Friday that though the government would not want to be presumptuous on the matter, the killing might have been politically motivated.

Semenitari said though the late Odu was not a card-carrying member of any political party, he had sympathy for the state governor.

Pointing out that Odu and Amaechi were from the same grandparents, Semenitari described the deceased as a humble man.

She said, “On Monday, the governor’s uncle came back from school in the evening. He later went to the farm to check his trap. But when they could not see him after several hours, a search party was conducted.

“The search party later saw his motorbike by the side of the bush before his body was later found with several machete cuts.

#HNNPolitics Senator @Iyiosun #AskOmisore's BRILLIANT appearance on Channels TV #OsunDecides

Omisore's Brilliant Show on Channels
By Olawale Rasheed

For almost an hour, Senator Iyiola Omisore answered questions on Channels's Politics Today programme, dissecting Osun politics from multi dimensional perspectives which mesmerized Seun Okinbaloye, the anchor of the programme. From performance of incubent to his role in the state politics, Omisore demonstrated a strong mastery of issues which he backed up with facts and figures.

His depicting of incumbency factor as an albatross was quite apt. His puncturing of incumbent's claim to grassroots politics was punchy as he proved that the Governor came from Alimosho to engage in politics in Osun from 2006, and was therefore foreign. He contrasted that record to his own work and political experience, a participation spanning over a decade long before 2006.

His defence of his ward to ward rally was also quite impressive. He asserted that the votes are in the wards, and his strategy was to go out to meet the people, experience the reality of their challenges and make an assessment of the depth of the issues. This, he affirmed, was most important thing to do. A mega rally he said was just a stage show which does not actually reach the masses, except of course for the purpose of entertainment with lead singers and actors in Nigeria. Many of the crowd at mega rally he said are imported, while others had come to listen to musicians and enjoyed themselves.

His rendering of his experience on the campaign train was also revealing. He stated his coming face to face with stark disconnect between the people and the incumbent Governor. The people he said were practically appealing to him to come and rescue them from the tyranny of Aregbesola. He said the house to house campaign afforded him opportunity to meet the people and listen to their needs.

The incumbent he said could not try that model because he had failed to deliver on his electoral promises. If the incumbent had tried it, the people he said would have mobbed him.On his confidence about winning the election,he said his experience in the last two months has without doubt proven his acceptability to the electorate in Osun state.

On Ekiti elections, Omisore made the point that elections are lost not in a day but over a period . He said APC lost Ekiti election over two years ago. Osun election he said was won and lost over a year ago . The people he said had rejected the APC after seeing through the party deceit. The outcome Of Ekiti election he said was just a manifestation of decisions already taken by the people.

He countered the myth that military presence constitutes intimidation of voters. Omisore supplied statistics that showed that turn out in the last election was higher than that of 2011when tight Security was not provided. He noted that 2011 poll was about 34 Per cent turnout While that of 2014 was about 74 percent. He welcomed a replication of Ekiti model during the Osun state elections as has been promised by INEC.

And back to Osun politics, Omisore identified grinding poverty as the fallout of Aregbesola policies. He affirmed that the school reclassification was a bad policy which his administration will reverse. APC policies he said were motivated by profit giving examples of the single uniform policy which he said had pauperised the tailoring sector. He cited Opon Imo on which 8.4 billion naira was wasted and which he said contained 87 percent errors.

He explained how capital fight engineer poverty, how rural roads were neglected and how his eight point agenda will reverse the situation for the better.

Overall,Omisore was clearly at his best. He sounds very convincing on all counts

#HNNPolitics How PM News' APC candidate Editor GOOFED on @Iyiosun Omisore story and who the real THUGS allegedly were #HNNNigeria

Senator Omisore visited King Adekunle Aromolaran last week
PM News is known for some questionable investigative Journalism. Senator Iyiola Omisore who HNNAfrica just interviewed just noticed a goof in their story of how an APC supporter was killed recently in Ilesha. The Senator has consistently disassociated himself away from Thuggery in the Osun Governoship race. His Media man Diran Odeyemi put our the statement below.

PM news goofed: The true story of how APC thugs attacked Omisore's convoy in Ilesha

Our attention has been drawn to a news item in the PM news, titled "Osun Election: Omisore supporters kill APC member"
.
Ordinarily, we wouldn't have bothered to react to such jejenu story since it was coming from the stable of PM News, a newspaper that is sympathetic to the All Progressives Congress, APC , and will do anything to curry the favour of the party. Moreso, we are aware that Its Editor-In-Chief, Mr. Bayo Onanuga is running for the senate on the platform of APC. We respond to set the records straight and correct the erroneous impression that we were the aggressor. We state as follows:

That the governor of Osun state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is noted for his penchant for thuggery. In the last few month, he has said consistently that his supporters should go to polling booth with charms, amulets , cudgels and other weapons. At other time he urged his supporters to confront the military and slug it out with them. His slogan at politically rally across Osun state has been, " how many people soldiers go kill o, how many people soldiers go kill, hey then go kill us tire". He also said recently that he does not look like a governor. " Do I look like a governor? Aregbesola asked rhetorically. He now went on to say that he came from the street and will go back to the street. If we may ask, where is Aregbesola's trait of Omoluwabi in these careless statements meant to incite the people and cause disaffection. It is also a fact that Aregbesola has a standing army code named ' state boys'.

Now to the Ilesa story that has been distorted by the PM News, a publicity arm of the APC, to suit the whims and caprices of its leaders .

The campaign train of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came under attack at Ilesa rally shortly after its gubernatorial candidate in the forthcoming August 9 election in Osun, Senator Iyiola Omisore and other PDP party leaders paid a courtesy visit to Owa Adumila of Ijesaland, HRM Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran in his palace
The DSS officers attached to Senator Omisore were injured in the attack. Also, the vehicle conveying the party chairman, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa was badly smashed though both Omisore and other party Chiefs escaped unhurt.

The attack was allegedly led by the “state boys”, a group of political thugs working for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It was actually the APC supporters that instigated the violence.
Since the commencement of our rallies, we have not recorded any violence or breach of the peace. You will recall that Aregbesola had said at different campaign fora that Osun would march on blood if he fails to win the August 9 governorship poll.

Out of desperation to win at all costs, Aregbesola had on four occasions called on voters to go to polling booths with charms and weapons and that they should also confront soldiers in defending their votes. So, what happened in Ilesa on Friday may be a signpost of their planned violence before, during and after August 9, 2014.

EXCLUSIVE #AUDIO INTERVIEW WITH Senator Iyiola Omisore Governorship Aspirant for #Osun state #Nigeria #HNNPolitics #AskOmisore #OsunDecides

Omisore compares his background to Aregbesola's (Credits Iyiola Omisore.org)
Senator Iyiola Omisore is a dynamic personality that must be given a second look. This lawmaker who served as a Deputy Governor in Osun state, Nigeria and later became a Senator took some time to call #HNNAfrica to share his vision with me on his gubernatorial aspiration in Osun state, Nigeria. I asked him several questions including those about his controversial past, moving forward and going to the Senate to represent the people he so loves with key legislative contributions in the upper chamber.

We started the interview very early in the morning via phone and the lines were rough with a few echoes due to the phone lines in Nigeria. I managed to edit the interview as best as I could to ensure you hear his own words. The entire interview is here in text as you read this write up.

On the overall approach of his Rescue Mission and the distinction between human and physical development, he plans to adopt a holistic transformation of Osun state implemented as interventions across 8 Cardinal Programmes including good education, health, security and transparency. He said that he is committed to ensuring the people believe in Osun state again. He stated that Osun people need to be conscious of their state and who is leading them with real investments in their lives.

On Education Omisore expressed how big he is into education in his state stating why the students come first before the strikes. Ibrahim Ishola from HNNAfrica’s Facebook says he is watching the opposition incumbent Governor Rauf Aregbesola spend state money heavily on his campaign rather than send Polytechnic students back to school and pay their lecturers. Omisore's opinion on that was that his 8 cardinal programs will restore dignity in education, negotiate and put them back to work so that students can get their education.

On Youth Empowerment and Job Creation he says there is unemployment all over Osun state. He talked to me about his empowerment scheme which stands for Omisore Youth Support Forum (OYSF) where he's giving graduates and undergraduates GUIDANCE and ASSISTANCE on how to get jobs and match them with their fields of study. OYSF has provided financial support to many of the graduands and presents a example of engaging young people in true sustainable empowerment, a definite any community of young people need right now.

When we talked about Financial Management in the state, he said there was over N430.0m in debt owed to various agencies, banks and programmes. There remains a controversy on the debt profile of Osun State I asked him. It is unclear to the public how much the state owes and to whom? How would he ascertain the true indebtedness of the state and manage this in the event that he is elected to the office of the Governor of Osun state? He said there are debts owed in form of loans, World Bank loans and more.

Olubunmi Nasiru asked on Facebook that Osun Government officials repeatedly say that the allocation of money from the treasury is small and so it’s hard to execute capital projects. I asked him how he plans to sustain Osun state with the federal budget allocated should he win the race. He says the current level of Federal allocation can make a difference if they are prudently managed – not supporting over inflated contracts or being diverted to pay masters outside Osun State.

On Governance, Peace and Security, these were a big goal of his for Osun people. Everyone is scared of the Boko Haram insurgency and even bombs planted in Osun; he said he plans to work closely with all areas of state government employees to create good governance. Omisore told me that Osun state has been a peaceful state until the recent past where local capacities to engage in economic activities have been compromised. He plans to change all that and give residents a peace of mind.

He constantly demands accountability from the Rauf Aregbesola administration. He wants to be held to account and in the same way always demand for accountability, something many Nigerians shy away from ending up like uninformed citizens. He told me of the recent Osun Finance Commissioner incident where the commissioner lied and later admitted he was in Delta state when police arrested him on a controversial trip. He also talked about Aregbesola’s qualifications with respect to if he is a COREN registered engineer like he initially claimed or just a school holder. Omisore told me that Aregbesola was yet to respond. The incumbent Governor never answers him when accountability is involved he said he has no doubt,  Aregbesola has NO COREN number and is not a registered engineer.  He has recently submitted WASC as his highest qualification to INEC.

His strategy for the Rescue Mission Campaign comprises of House to House versus mega rallies. He is going into towns and villages instead of people always coming to a mega rally. His social interaction has filtered into the streets in this form. He does not want to box everyone in the crowd and wants to reach as many individually. He says he personalizes his campaign to reach everyone and nobody left behind.

His Social Media Strategy for the Campaign is absolutely impressive; I must commend him for the use of social media for his Rescue mission campaign. People are following him on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and he is considered the leading politician in Nigeria using social media in a political race. He says he does not delete any hate or vicious comments because of his pedigree and the social media fans can teach him, correct him and he tries to answer everyone and even educate, inform and even learn from them in the process.

On the big question about elections bringing many issues to the court of public opinion. Many still implicate or suspect him in an aspect of former Oyo governor Bola Ige’s murder when he's been cleared by the courts. I asked him if society has been fair on his image during this governorship campaign? He said it does not affect his campaign at all and that people have been very fair to him and I quote "It does not affect my campaign at all at all" in the Nigerian phrase.

Omisore says there is nobody who has left PDP who has not decamped right back. He says PDP is the only party that has strong internal democracy, where everyone aspire to be what they wish to be without the constrain of a ‘god father’ or ‘patronage’ by a person or group for the people and no party in this country has the pedigree of PDP which is steadily revamping its image. An umbrella cannot stop the rain but can help you stand in the rain and a broom can sweep up the dirt but that dirt can also be swept under the carpet I told him. He says that people will be voting for candidates and not parties. If he decamped to another party people will still vote for him.

We talked about Violence and the upcoming elections on the 9th of August 2014. As an International Journalist who came back home after 37 years in North America, elections have been seen as violent exercises where people are injured or killed. He told me as the opposition in this gubernatorial race that he will ensure on his own part as a credible candidate that there is no violence on August 9th 2014 so that the people of Osun can peacefully exercise their voting rights?

INEC is conducting free and fair elections these days; the President is putting great security in place at the polls. We’ve seen it in Ekiti; even US President Obama commended that election. We never want to see the Abiola scenario again where free and fair elections were annulled. I asked Omisore if he were to win this election come August 9th 2014, does he predict a bigger landslide than Ekiti state? Does he think he can win the hearts of the people of Osun state? He told me that he expects a bigger win and he expects a credible free and fair election and “win fair and square.” He says he has done his homework, house work and ward to ward campaign.

On his Closing Statement, Senator Iyiola Omisore said that the next time I speak to him, He will be referred to as the Governor-Elect. His confidence and self esteem was very high, a good attribute for a leader. The highlight of this interview was the part where he said that many people in Osun state are still not enlightened on how government works and how it should really work. He stresses his commitment and bond in not leaving anyone behind.
