#HNNPolitics Jimi Agbaje WINS #Lagos #PDPPrimaries and Obanikoro loses! #HNNNigeria

Agbaje and Obanikoro
Barely four months after joining the Peoples Democratic Party, a pharmacist and an entrepreneur, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, on Monday emerged as the PDP governorship candidate for Lagos State.

He defeated a former Minister of State for Defence and Nigeria’s ex-High Commissioner to Ghana, Musiliu Obanikoro, who was touted as the leading contestant in the primary.

Agbaje scored 432 votes as against the 346 by Obanikoro. The other aspirants, Babatunde Gbadamosi got 21 votes; Tokunbo Kamson, 46 votes and Adedeji Doherty, 21 votes.

The exercise was nearly marred by violence following a controversy which surrounded the number of votes cast by the delegates.

When the voting started, the Chairman of the electoral committee, Senator Shehu Kumo, announced that there were 806 delegates.

But when votes were being sorted, it was discovered that the number of votes cast were 863. All efforts to get the number of votes and the number of delegates to tally proved abortive but Kumo insisted that the exercise should continue.

Amid the resistance by supporters of some of the aspirants, about 60 armed policemen formed a barricade around the ballot boxes and ensured that the counting continued.

When tables and chairs were overturned at the centre, Obanikoro immediately stormed out.

Immediately after the announcement, Agbaje commended the committee and promised to work with other aspirants.

As the tension heightened, about 200 policemen and operatives of the Department of State Service stormed the venue. Agbaje was whisked away before policemen began firing gunshots into the air.

It was however victory galore for many of the PDP governors as most of their preferred candidates triumphed during the race in their states.

Now it's gonna be Agbaje vs Ambode. I see Agbaje winning this as Lagosians may now be tired of a personalized government under APC.

#BREAKING #Nigerian President Jonathan allegedly in secret talks to BLOCK Facebook from Nigeria (First on @HNNAfrica)

A high ranking Political source told #HNNAfrica Tuesday that Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan reportedly reached out and spoke to Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg Tuesday to BLOCK Facebook from Nigeria due to excessive criticism of his government.

The Nigerian President who is also a Facebook user is said to be secretly speaking to the Facebook Founder. #HNNAfrica tried to reach Facebook but calls and e-mails were not returned.

Nigeria previously tried to enact a social media bill in the Senate back in 2013 targeting Nigerians that use social media primarily Facebook and Twitter to attack government policies and ongoing issues. Part of that proposed Senate bill was calling for stiff sentences as much as 10 years. It drew widespread outrage on social media.

Nigeria has been plagued with massive insurgency,  corruption and unemployment putting many citizens of Africa's most populous country on edge and many using social media to voice their opinions.

China banned Instagram after the Hong Kong protest hit a climax as well as Turkey who blocked Twitter during their own revolution in the last 12 months. Could Nigeria be the next country to block FREE SPEECH?

An e-mail was sent to Presidential Spokesman Doyin Okupe and #HNNAfrica awaits a response.

#HNNCrime Why did Gunmen KILL Gov Rotimi Amaechi's Uncle? #HNNNigeria

Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi

The people of Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State have been thrown into mourning following the murder of Mr. Sabinus Odu, an uncle to the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.

Odu, the Vice-Principal of Community Secondary School, Aluu, was killed earlier in the week by some suspected assassins.

The deceased, whose pastime was hunting, had gone to the bush to check on a trap before he was killed.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, told journalists on Friday that though the government would not want to be presumptuous on the matter, the killing might have been politically motivated.

Semenitari said though the late Odu was not a card-carrying member of any political party, he had sympathy for the state governor.

Pointing out that Odu and Amaechi were from the same grandparents, Semenitari described the deceased as a humble man.

She said, “On Monday, the governor’s uncle came back from school in the evening. He later went to the farm to check his trap. But when they could not see him after several hours, a search party was conducted.

“The search party later saw his motorbike by the side of the bush before his body was later found with several machete cuts.

#HNNMoney Is it a GOOD THING as #OyoState Governor Ajimobi keeps giving interest free loans to traders? #HNNNigeria

Ajimobi gives N120m interest-free loan to traders, dispels rumours of shop demolition

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has distributed a total sum of N120 million to over 2,500 to traders in the state, with an assurance that his administration will continue to ensure that trading activities are enhanced through government policies, so as to actualize a stable economy of its desire.

The governor, while addressing a mammoth crowd of market men and women at the capacity-filled Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan on Wednesday, also seized the occasion to dispel the rumours being peddled by the opposition that his administration had been demolishing shops and other means of livelihood of the people of the state.

According to him, the only structures that his government ever removed were those trading by the roadsides.

Governor Ajimobi, who was assisted in the distributed of cheques by his deputy, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, his wife, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi and the Chairman of the State Market Advisory Council, Alhaji Dauda Oladapo, said that the gesture was in fulfillment of his earlier promise to the market men and women, artisans, caterers, traders and indeed the people of the state that his government would positively touch the lives of everyone.

``Trading, as we all know, is the livewire of commerce in any given economy. Our administration is very much aware of this and is doing everything humanly possible to make life better for the people of the state,’’ he said.

It would be recalled that interest-free loans had earlier been given to traders and artisans in the state, the first time ever in the history of the state, one of which was the N20 million given to traders at the newly-constructed Scout Camp Market at Challenge, Ibadan.

On his administration’s urban renewal and environmental sanitation programmes which culminated in the removal of traders from the streets, Governor Ajimobi said it was done to ensure the environmental, health and safety of the people of the state.

``We removed illegal traders only in Ibadan, said to be, before now, the dirtiest city in Nigeria. By removing illegal traders from underneath the bridges and roadsides where there were no toilets, we have reduced the incidence of cholera and communicable diseases to the barest minimum.

``Those trading under high-tension wires were also removed for their own self-safety while flood-prone area traders who were removed have reduced our flood incidences,’’ he said.

The governor, who said that people still sell by the roadsides till today, added that they had only been moved away from deadly road paths.

``Check traders at Bode in Molete up through that stretch of road to Gate area, we never demolished a single shop. We only asked the traders to move from dangerous road-paths to enhance city aesthetics and give even the traders long life,’’ he said.

Governor Ajimobi further stated that his administration also took a step further by instructing all the 11 local government councils in Ibadan to construct at least two neighbourhood markets each, pointing out while many councils had completed the construction of their own markets, others were at advanced stages of completion.

He listed some of the market already constructed by the council chairmen in Ibadan metropolis to include the Oloosaoko Market, Bodija Market, Bode-Igbo Market, Jonku Market, Alesinloye Market, Gbekuba Market, Bode market, Olorunsogo Market and many others.

The governor assured all the traders in the state that government would not rest on its oars in making life better for them, urging them, therefore, to keep on supporting his administration so that dividends of democracy could get to all parts of the state.

He also implored market leaders to ensure that the interest-free loans go round, adding ``our traders must ensure that the loans get to all those who need them, so as to boost their market capabilities.

``The loans are revolving and interest-free. Therefore, it is necessary to make available records of the loans’ disbursement and repayment to the supervising ministry for accountability purposes,’’ the governor said.

#HNNPolitics #HNNNigeria @Atiku becomes the FIRST Presidential Candidate in APC to declare!

Keep recycling them and keep ruining Nigeria. This was his presidential bid billboard before he decamped to the opposition. Nigeria's former vice-president Atiku Abubakar on Friday became the first high profile politician to announce his candidacy for the presidency at next year's general elections. Abubakar, who was deputy to Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007, is seeking to be the main opposition All Progressives Congress's candidate (APC) at the February 14, 2015 vote.

A formal declaration will be made on September 24, his spokesman, Garba Shehu, said in an emailed statement. Primaries for the parties' candidates begin in October, according to an election commission timetable.

#BREAKING #HNNPolitics @NuhuRibadu STEPS DOWN TEMPORARILY#Adamawa DOOMED! #HNNPolitics

Nuhu Ribadu
Adamawa state of Nigeria is now doomed for life as Nuhu Ribadu and seven other gubernatorial candidates for Adamawa state bye-election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have stepped down from the race in the early hours of Friday. These are the same foolish agreements that ruined Oyo state's party structure where Lanlehin was to be the next Governor after Ajimobi's 4 years and they have forgotten that we actually still have to vote. I wanted Ribadu to run now and later! He's the only one that can save that state from the N86B debt I heard lifetime Governor Nyako left. Also what are the likes of Marwa still doing in politics? Any past military types should NOT be voted for! Nyako was the Governor of Niger state when I was 12. Still a Governor when I'm 50??Thank God, he was peached out!

The impeachment of the former Governor, Murtala Nyako, prompted INEC to fix October 11 for election to get a substantive governor for the state. After about a four hours meeting with the aspirants that started by 9.06 p.m on Thursday and ended around 1.00 a.m on Friday at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Senate President, David Mark along with other officials of the party were able to reach a compromise with the hopefuls and reduced the number of those in the race to six, according to reports from Nation.

The six aspirants still in the race for the party’s ticket on Saturday are Ahmed Gulak, Buba Marwa, Ahmed Modibbo, Dr. Umar Ardo, Acting Governor Umaru Fintiri, and Jerry Kumdisi. Those who have withdrawn from Saturday primary election include Nuhu Ribadu; Auwal Tukur; Aliyu Idi Hong, Andrawus Sawa; James Barka; Gen. Aliyu Kama; Markus Gundiri and Abubakar Girei.

It was agreed at the closed-door meeting that the six aspirants contesting for the party’s ticket on Saturday will not contest for the position in 2015. The meeting also agreed that only those stepping down now can contest for the party’s governorship election ticket in 2015, with more consideration in 2015 for Adamawa Central that has never produced a governor. Any aspirant who fails to win the party’s ticket in Saturday’s primary election, the meeting, also agreed must support the party’s flag bearer towards the 11th October election.

Speaking with State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, Chairman of the Adamawa State chapter of the party, Joel Madaki said: “Fourteen aspirants contesting for the position earlier has now reduced to six aspirants due to this meeting. It is a very welcome idea. Nobody was forced to step them. Those who stepped down did so voluntarily in order to wait to contest for the position in 2015.” “The six aspirants contesting this election are Ahmed Gulak, Buba Marwa, Ahmed Modibbo, Dr. Umar Ardo, Acting Governor Umaru Fintiri, and Jerry Kumdisi,” he added The former Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Ahmed Gulak, who is contesting for the ticket on Saturday, said: “The outcome of the meeting was fantastic.

We met as family members of PDP, even before coming here all the aspirants in Adamawa have unanimously resolved that after the primaries, in a free, fair primaries, anybody that emerges will get our support.” “Today, in this meeting, the number of the aspirants has been drastically reduced to six, which is manageable. I am contesting, Gen. Marwa is contesting, Ahmed Modibbo is contesting, Dr. Umar Ardo is contesting, Hon. Jerry Kumdisi is contesting, and Acting Governor Fintiri is contesting.”

“Today, in this meeting, the number of the aspirants has been drastically reduced to six, which is manageable. I am contesting, Gen. Marwa is contesting, Ahmed Modibbo is contesting, Dr. Umar Ardo is contesting, Hon. Jerry Kumdisi is contesting, and Acting Governor Fintiri is contesting.” “And we have resolved to go into the primaries without rancour, without acrimony and to come out of it as peaceful co-existing members. “And at the end of it all, anybody that emerges, we will all queue behind him. And if I emerge as the candidate, they will all queue behind me. It is going to be a family affair and there will be no losers.”
On his chances of getting the ticket as Ribadu and others are now out of the race, he said: “Nuhu Ribadu or not, you know, I prepared for this election. Even, if 14 of us are going into this election, I am confident of my ability, of my capability, of my mobilization, of my sensitization that the delegates will select me.” Aliyu Idi Hong, who is among those who withdrew from the race, said: “Peace-building, negotiation, give-and-take, everything went well. We have been given a caveat and one thing we have succeeded in extracting from this meeting is that the meeting started with a preamble that whoever is going to contest and if he happens to win as a governor, he will not have the right to contest the 2015 election.” “Some of us think that our aspirations, our ambition, our vision for Adamawa is a long term and more articulate vision and not a stop-gap six months aspiration.” “For that reason, we saw it is wiser that if you are going to do something to change the fortune of Adamawa, you need a longer period of time. So, we decided that it is not wise for you to go into this aspiration for six months,” Hong said.

“Two, we have also been able to have on record, that whoever is going to emerge as governor will not contest in 2015 and it has also been unanimously agreed that because Adamawa Central has not been able to produce governor of the state before, it is on record that the Presidency and the party have accepted that the aspiration for the PDP nomination for 2015 will be strictly for contestants from Adamawa Central. It is not negotiable.” “So most of us from Adamawa Central have agreed to this position and about eight of us have withdrawn from the race.

We are going to remain members of the party and we are going to contest in 2015 because it will give us the opportunity to make that transformation that we want to change Adamawa into,” he stated. Those who attended the meeting included the PDP National Vice Chairman, Uche Secondus and the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Rufai Alkali. Also at the meeting are two governors, Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe) and Isa Yuguda (Bauchi). The Secretary of the Adamawa state PDP, Barrister Ati Shehu and the former governor of the state, Wilberforce Jutta were also at the meeting.

#HNNNigeria (Photos) Oyo state Governor @AAAJimobi mourns Former Gov Ladoja's Mom #HNNMemorial

Ajimobi condoles Ladoja over mum’s death

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has condoled Senator Rashidi Ladoja, a former Governor of the state, on the death of his mother, Alhaja Halimotu Ladoja at the age of 94.

The governor, in a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo, said that the passing away of the matriarch of the Ladoja family was unfortunate.

``Even though our dear Mama, Alhaja Halimotu Ladoja, died at the ripe age of 94, nevertheless, we are still saddened with her demise.

``She was a not only a devout Muslim but also a quintessential mother, who was caring, loving and an epitome of motherhood. Besides, Mama was also a good example in philanthropy; she was always ready and prepared to share whatever she had with the less privileged.

``This is why Mama deserves to be celebrated in death rather than mourned,’’ he said.

While condoling Senator Ladoja and the entire Ladoja family over the death of Alhaja Halimotu, Governor Ajimobi prayed the Almighty Allah to grant her Aljanah Firdaus, and the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

As you know last October the my dad another Governor lost his mom last October 2013 and Ladoja and Ajimobi were all there to condole with my family. All the elderly moms of Governors have now passed away. Ajimobi is my grandma's nephew if you don't know. My grandma was 102. Both Governors above are possibly running against each other in 2015. Oyo state politics is one I stay out of.
