The jury in Eighties pop star BOY GEORGE's false imprisonment trial has heard how the singer confessed during a police interview to handcuffing a male model at his London home. The former Culture Club frontman, real name George O'Dowd, is accused of chaining male escort Audun Carlsen to a hook on his bedroom wall at his east London apartment after suspecting him of tampering with his computer.

O'Dowd has denied unlawfully detaining Carlsen - but on Monday (01Dec08), prosecutors played a recording of the star apparently admitting to handcuffing Carlsen during the incident.
In the police interview, played to jurors at Snaresbrook Crown Court, O'Dowd explained to cops that he suspected Carlsen had tampered with his laptop to obtain nude photos of himself from an earlier meeting between the two.

Prosecutors claim he told officers he was so angry about the alleged incident, he decided to handcuff Carlsen so he could be interrogated. O'Dowd says on the tape, "He was so smug and was lying, saying 'It wasn't me'. I asked him to come (to my apartment) because I wanted to find out if this guy had borrowed my stuff." The singer goes on to detail how he had invited a friend around to ensure Carlsen didn't leave "so I could check the computer and his phone".

He adds, "He struggled a bit... because he realised I wasn't messing around. I didn't tell him the reason I was doing what I was doing. I said I just wanted to check something. He was saying: 'Let me go'." And the singer admitted in the interview that he didn't intend to do any more than question Carlsen, because killing the male escort "wouldn't have done my career any good".
O'Dowd also told the court that he did not assault Carlsen, dismissing the model's claims O'Dowd swung a chain at him as he tried to flee. O'Dowd denies one charge of false imprisonment. The trial continues.

The male escort at the middle of singer BOY GEORGE's false imprisonment trial cashed in on his alleged ordeal by selling his story to a magazine in his native Norway, a London court has heard. The former Culture Club frontman, real name George O'Dowd, is charged with unlawfully detaining and assaulting model Audun Carlsen in his East London apartment in April 2007 following a row over naked photographs he had taken of the man.

O'Dowd is alleged to have lured Carlsen to the bedroom of his home last year (07), where he reportedly handcuffed the 29-year-old to a hook on his bedroom wall and assaulted him with a metal chain after accusing him of tampering with his laptop computer. Carlsen managed to escape and immediately reported the incident to police. The jury at Snaresbrook Crown Court was told on Tuesday (25Nov08) how Carlsen later sold his story to a Norwegian publication, pocketing $8,250 (£5,500) from the deal.

The model claimed he needed the cash to flee the U.K., because he was "too scared to stay in the country". However, the court heard how Carlsen had failed to mention details of his magazine deal to cops when they interviewed him days after the alleged attack. He denied allegations he had not been "straightforward" with the authorities, adding,

"I told the police everything that I had received (money) when the story came out. "The reason I gave this interview was because of all the things that were written, for the sake of my family."

O'Dowd has denied the charges against him.The trial continues.
