The Australian television personality and presenter, Charlotte Dawson, has been found dead at her home in Sydney.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the 47-year-old, who had a long history of depression.

Ms Dawson, a former model from New Zealand, was also a high-profile victim of cyber bullying.

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key said he was "shocked" and "saddened" by her death.

Ms Dawson was best known for hosting reality TV show The Contender Australia, and for her role as a judge on Australia's Next Top Model.

In 2012, Dawson was admitted to hospital after being targeted by cyber bullies on Twitter.

She went on to become an outspoken campaigner against internet trolls.

Ms Dawson, who left her native New Zealand at the age of 16 to pursue a modelling career, has been described by her friends as outrageous, outspoken and fragile.

BBC Africa's Komla Dumor was laid to rest today in Ghana as friends, family and dignitaries came together to pay tribute to the London based broadcaster. Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama, his father Prof Ernest Dumor who said to his son "you became the priceless gift to our community..country..Africa and ..the world", daughter Elinam moves mourners when she said "you have been a wonderful father..we will always remember our birthdays with you" and his wife Kwansema who reflected that on Saturday 18th January 2014 that marked "the beginning of a painful and aching void.." 

Ghana's President Mahama says Dumor was a connector, who managed through his work to link princes with paupers. Dumor hosted "Focus on Africa" programme which connected a lot of us in Africa with all the social issues and more. He was loved! Even Ghana's ex-president Jerry Rawlings was at Catholic Cathedral in Accra today. Pallbearers and hearse are now taking body to its final resting place. Children released 41 balloons as Komla was 41 when he passed away. #RIP. My heart and prayers go out from #HNNAfrica.

#RIP to our colleague Alex Akinwale of NTA Akure and head of the NUJ (Nigerian Union of Journalists) in Akure, Nigeria who died along with his heavily pregnant wife, daughter and housemaid in the Deputy Governor of Ondo state's convoy that CRASHED into the Oba's (Royal King) convoy.

The little girl with the King (said to be his granddaughter) and his driver also died. Just yesterday morning. Gbenga Omole my friend was coming from the same event and called me today to confirm.

#‎Kenya‬-based BBC broadcast journalist ‪#‎AnneWaithera‬ has died, aged 39, in a Nairobi hospital. She had been battling cancer for the past two years.

Described as among the most talented Kenyan journalists of her time, she joined the BBC in 2009 after many years with local TV and radio stations.

She was the first BBC bilingual - English and Swahili - reporter to be appointed to the Ethiopia capital, Addis Ababa.

Her death comes less than a fortnight after that of another celebrated BBC journalist, Komla Dumor from Ghana, in London.

Very sad to learn of the sudden passing of dear colleague, brother, friend and consummate professional Komla Dumor. BBC Africa has lost a great man. Komla Dumor is a Ghanaian journalist who was born on 3 October 1972 in Accra, Ghana. His grandfather was Philip Gbeho, composer of the Ghanaian national anthem.

 

I just spoke to him last week casually on doing a show about female circumcision today and the Gay marriage jungles of Africa as I speak out on that fiercely.

Ghana-born Dumor was a presenter for BBC World News and its Focus on Africa programme.

One of Ghana's best-known journalists, he joined the BBC as a radio broadcaster in 2007 after a decade of journalism in Ghana.

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama said on Twitter that his country had lost one of its finest ambassadors.

BBC Global News Director Peter Horrocks called Dumor a leading light of African journalism who would be deeply missed.

From one Journalist to another, may you rest in peace brother. Thank you for the memories K!

LATE BREAKING: SOUTH AFRICAN BROADCASTER VUYO MBULI DEAD AT 46, COLLAPSES LAST NITE AT RUGBY MATCH.

#RIP Vuyo Mbuli

SABC television and radio presenter Vuyo Mbuli has died in a Bloemfontein hospital, SABC News reported.

The 46-year-old collapsed while watching a rugby match between the Reds and the Cheetahs at Free State Stadium on Saturday night.

Mbuli was stabilised at the scene before being taken to a Mediclinic hospital.

The cause of death has yet to be determined, a family spokesperson told SABC.

"We would like to say we are deeply saddened the loss of the country is the loss of the people of the Free State, may all be consoled, for the fact that he touched their lives in a positive way," Free State government spokesperson Mondli Mvambi was quoted as saying.

Veteran journalist Mandy Wiener tweeted that "the media fraternity is poorer this morning" after Mbuli's loss.

Cosatu secretary-general Zwelinzima Vavi tweeted, "I am shocked and devastated by the death of Vuyo Mbuli. I believe journalism and SA is waking up poorer today. He was so humble and respectful".

ONE TIME DANCER AND HOLLYWOOD STAR JOHN TRAVOLTA'S SON DEAD AT 16!

Rand Memorial Hospital in the Bahamas tells TMZ the son of John Travolta died today.

We're told 16-year-old Jett was vacationing with Travolta and wife Kelly Preston.

There have been reports that Jett was autistic, though Travolta has denied it, saying he suffers from Kawasaki Syndrome, a condition which often leads to heart disease.

UPDATE: 4:00 PM ET -- Travolta's attorney Michael Ossi says Jett suffered a seizure at his family's vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died on scene.

Rand Memorial Hospital is in Freeport, Grand Bahama.

Jett was born on April 13, 1992. He was named for his dad's love of flying.

Jett has one sibling, younger sister Ella Blue.

R.I.P: CANADIAN MEDIA MAGNATE TED ROGERS HAS PASSED AWAY AT AGE 75!

Broadcast pioneer, Ted Rogers, has died at the age of 75, after weakening health from congestive heart failure. The founder of Rogers Communications Inc. passed away at his Toronto home just after midnight Tuesday surrounded by his friends and family.

Edward Samuel "Ted" Rogers, Jr., OC, BA, LL.B, D.Sc (born May 27, 1933 in Toronto, Ontario, died December 2, 2008, in Toronto) was the President and CEO of Rogers Communications Inc., and the richest person in Canada in terms of net worth. His father Edward S. Rogers, Sr. is regarded as the founder of the company, although the radio station that he founded is now owned by another Canadian company competitor Astral Media.

Educated at Upper Canada College, where he was a member of Seaton's House, Rogers graduated from Trinity College, at the University of Toronto, in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. While an undergrad, Rogers joined the Sigma Chi Fraternity. In 1979 he was named a Significant Sig — the 21st Canadian to be inducted. In 1960, while still a student at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University, he bought all the shares in local radio station (CHFI) that pioneered the use of FM (frequency modulation) at a time when only 5% of the Toronto households had FM receivers. By 1965, he was in the cable TV business; Rogers Communications was established in 1967 and has grown into one of Canada's largest media conglomerates.

Rogers had been the owner of the Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball team since September 1, 2000, when Rogers Communications Inc. purchased 80% of the baseball club with the Labatt Brewing Company Ltd. maintaining 20% interest and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce relinquishing its 10% share. Since the 2003 season, he now owns 100% of the team. Moreover, the Blue Jays' home ballpark, SkyDome, was renamed Rogers Centre after Rogers' firm purchased the stadium (including naming rights).

On May 29th 2007, Ted Rogers and Loretta Rogers made a gift of $15 million to Ryerson University. The donation was directed towards the Faculty of Business, which was renamed the Ted Rogers School of Management at the donors' request. The majority of the gift will be used to establish 52 new undergraduate and graduate student awards and scholarships. The gift also aims to establish a new research chair to seed academic initiatives in management research. Rogers suffered from congestive heart failure and died on December 2, 2008, at his home in Toronto.

I arrived in Canada June 2007 and everyone at the hotel told me that I should get Rogers Cable, Internet and home phone once we settle in the apartment. I wondered....Who is this Rogers guy? I looked him up and just wanted to meet him as he so much remembered me of another Ted who was my boss at one time in my 12 year broadcast career. Ted Turner at CNN. I started my career as a Pharmacist and went on to be a Broadcaster/Journalist and PR Specialist. My big break came at CNN Medical Bureau in Washington where I was a freelance Health reporter. I spoke to Ted Rogers only ONCE...via e-mail.

I just wanted him to see my four year concept of media news and gossip blogging, 5 years old in the States and new in Canada.....Keminications. He loved it! I had the opportunity to meet Rogers at several events but I now regret it as he's now passed. Every broadcaster has their own memories and stories of Ted Rogers. Most of my friends in the industry actually work at a Rogers media house especially all my pals at 680 News. They are so much fun and family over there. CFRB, CHFI, CityNews which was added to the Rogers family shortly after I arrived and more. 52 Radio stations, 70 magazines, TV stations and more in just one generation.

His dad died at 38 when he was 5 and was determined to move on with the family legacy! At Keminications Media and all my blogs, we sympathize with the Rogers family and employees. R.I.P TIM RUSSERT: THE MAN THAT CALLED ME "THE BARBARA WALTERS OF HIP-HOP" HAS PASSED ON!

NO! NO! NO!

Tim Russert, the Democratic operative turned NBC commentator who revolutionized Sunday morning television and infused journalism with his passion for politics, died this afternoon. Russert, 58, collapsed while recording voiceovers for his Sunday morning interview program, NBC reported. He was initially reported to have suffered a heart attack while working in his office on Washington's Nebraska Avenue, but the network said later only that he was "stricken at the bureau" and subsequently died.

Many of you in the States know I belonged to the NBC family the minute I graduated from the Broadcasting Institute of Maryland and started at WBAL in Baltimore, an NBC affiliate. I attended everything the network did in New York. I told Tim I wanted to be a MASTER INTERVIEWER LIKE HIM. I always wanted to interview hip-hop stars and he was the first to call me "The Barbara Walters of Hip-Hop." I am truly saddened this day, this Friday the 13th! His favourite words were "This is BIG" and "Amen!."

I took Tim hand in hand at one of the Broadcasting Foundation awards in NYC after I had hugged and kissed him arriving on the red carpet. A paparrazi asked if I was his date and Tim stuck his tongue out and said "Eat your heart out!" to the photographer. Click the picture to see Tim stick out his tongue! LOL!

He was FUNNY, great, he was kind, he was the big brother I never had and most importantly, he was a great mentor! I will forever miss him! I regret not calling Tim when I got to Canada. All I said was goodbye when I left the USA in 2005 to move back to Africa. The entire nightly news was dedicated to him. I will have that on video shortly. I will always miss you Tim.
