David Marsden, CFNY's founder, wrote on The Southern Ontario/WNY Radio-TV Forum that Streek "put on his wings earlier today, to the shock of most everyone....Good night Martin. We don't know what forced you to take this step but we do wish you a wonderful and peaceful rest." According to Marsden, Streek's final Facebook status update, set on Monday, was:

So...I guess that's it...thanks everyone...I'm sorry to those I should be sorry to, I love you to those that I love, and I will see you all again soon (not too soon though)... Let the stories begin.

R.I.P: CANADIAN MEDIA MAGNATE TED ROGERS HAS PASSED AWAY AT AGE 75!

Broadcast pioneer, Ted Rogers, has died at the age of 75, after weakening health from congestive heart failure. The founder of Rogers Communications Inc. passed away at his Toronto home just after midnight Tuesday surrounded by his friends and family.

Edward Samuel "Ted" Rogers, Jr., OC, BA, LL.B, D.Sc (born May 27, 1933 in Toronto, Ontario, died December 2, 2008, in Toronto) was the President and CEO of Rogers Communications Inc., and the richest person in Canada in terms of net worth. His father Edward S. Rogers, Sr. is regarded as the founder of the company, although the radio station that he founded is now owned by another Canadian company competitor Astral Media.

Educated at Upper Canada College, where he was a member of Seaton's House, Rogers graduated from Trinity College, at the University of Toronto, in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. While an undergrad, Rogers joined the Sigma Chi Fraternity. In 1979 he was named a Significant Sig — the 21st Canadian to be inducted. In 1960, while still a student at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University, he bought all the shares in local radio station (CHFI) that pioneered the use of FM (frequency modulation) at a time when only 5% of the Toronto households had FM receivers. By 1965, he was in the cable TV business; Rogers Communications was established in 1967 and has grown into one of Canada's largest media conglomerates.

Rogers had been the owner of the Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball team since September 1, 2000, when Rogers Communications Inc. purchased 80% of the baseball club with the Labatt Brewing Company Ltd. maintaining 20% interest and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce relinquishing its 10% share. Since the 2003 season, he now owns 100% of the team. Moreover, the Blue Jays' home ballpark, SkyDome, was renamed Rogers Centre after Rogers' firm purchased the stadium (including naming rights).

On May 29th 2007, Ted Rogers and Loretta Rogers made a gift of $15 million to Ryerson University. The donation was directed towards the Faculty of Business, which was renamed the Ted Rogers School of Management at the donors' request. The majority of the gift will be used to establish 52 new undergraduate and graduate student awards and scholarships. The gift also aims to establish a new research chair to seed academic initiatives in management research. Rogers suffered from congestive heart failure and died on December 2, 2008, at his home in Toronto.

I arrived in Canada June 2007 and everyone at the hotel told me that I should get Rogers Cable, Internet and home phone once we settle in the apartment. I wondered....Who is this Rogers guy? I looked him up and just wanted to meet him as he so much remembered me of another Ted who was my boss at one time in my 12 year broadcast career. Ted Turner at CNN. I started my career as a Pharmacist and went on to be a Broadcaster/Journalist and PR Specialist. My big break came at CNN Medical Bureau in Washington where I was a freelance Health reporter. I spoke to Ted Rogers only ONCE...via e-mail.

I just wanted him to see my four year concept of media news and gossip blogging, 5 years old in the States and new in Canada.....Keminications.
He loved it! I had the opportunity to meet Rogers at several events but I now regret it as he's now passed. Every broadcaster has their own memories and stories of Ted Rogers. Most of my friends in the industry actually work at a Rogers media house especially all my pals at 680 News. They are so much fun and family over there. CFRB, CHFI, CityNews which was added to the Rogers family shortly after I arrived and more. 52 Radio stations, 70 magazines, TV stations and more in just one generation.

His dad died at 38 when he was 5 and was determined to move on with the family legacy! At Keminications Media and all my blogs, we sympathize with the Rogers family and employees. Lorretta, Lisa, Edward, Melinda and Martha...My thoughts and prayers are with you. CFTR....So long! Can someone please turn the CN tower RED one more day! Red is Rogers! R.I.P

KHIA!!!!!!!!!

(Baltimore Sun photos by Monica Lopossay / July 26, 2008)

One of the things they said in her eulogy today is about that 170 pounds she lost. It's so amazing since I saw Swift last in 2003 and I have always known her as FAT! Then she died and I saw all these pictures of a slim chic! These were questions I was asking people all last week. She had changed so much in her life and took so much care of herself for HER! Now read below........
"She's didn't talk about building an entertainment empire, she just did it, said Marc Clarke of radio station 92Q, where Edgerton was the first female DJ. "She didn't talk about losing 170 pounds. She just did it. And she didn't rely on a man to build her dreams. She didn't bat her eyes."
When Marc who has been hosting the morning show for over 5 years sent me this e-mail late last week thinking I didn't know yet, he gave me a few minutes to breathe and get the shock! Then I replied him at the station. It was a heavy dose of news but thank goodness but no thanks I already knew as I would have collapsed that day again!

Hey kemi,
On a sad note dj kswift from 92q died.

KHIA GOES HOME TODAY SATURDAY: Hundreds at K-Swift's Memorial in Baltimore Friday, Maryland USA.

Erica Edgerton sobbed openly in New Shiloh Baptist Church Friday evening. Her big sister, a sister to many, is now gone. Wearing sunglasses, K-Swift’s long time friend Tracey Smith walked onto the podium and said, “On earth she was my superstar and I'm glad to know she's in heaven being a shining star that's always going to be shining down on me."

But even the sunglasses could not shade their sorrow. It was clear to see, that at 29 years old, Khia Edgerton a.k.a. 92 Q's DJ K-Swift and Baltimore's Club Queen, touched so many lives. The church sanctuary was nearly filled to capacity. Her cousin Dr. Gene Edgerton said, “It's just amazing she had such an affect on so many and it’s just a testament to what you can do when you really give of yourself to others."

Khia it's Ms Kemi like you call me...I will miss you but I will see you at the crossroads....Goodbye! The autopsy now shows a neck injury when she dived into the pool. R.I.P.

BREAKING NEWS: REST IN PEACE K-SWIFT!!!

She was known around the world!! We sympathize with the loss of our beloved friend K-Swift! It is to my shock that I got this e-mail from DD Radio, our own Canadian version of three female hip-hop women giving Canada their hot music every Monday night. Melissa Langley aka DJ Mel Boogie sent me this message. All the female DJ's are a family . I myself earned Best Female on air personality in 2007 for Radio Nigeria before I moved to Canada so I know the banding together of female DJ's. I lived in Baltimore 1989-2003

She was my girl, she was my sister. She was a role model to my sons. She even started DJ'ing at 11 years old!!! When she was 19, my boys were 10 and 11 and Konan, K-Swift, Frank Ski and more personalities at the Q were very involved with my children in the community. Words cannot express the shock my entire family is feeling. May GOD help your family to cope thru this. We are in Canada, we sympathize with you and we will continue to remember K-Swift. God bless your entire family.

I spoke to Howard Mazer, 92Q Jams Baltimore's General Manager at about 2pm today and he gave me a statement that the investigation is being handled by police and they still don't know the exact cause of death. Howard then told me that the station is SILENT today in her memory! No broadcast with air personalities!!!

But you can tune your computers on to the live stream and hear her past shows, mixes and gigs and click listen live.
WERQ-FM, 92Q Jams is the #1 station in all genres and demographics in Baltimore for several years in a row.

REMEMBER KEN: Radio Jock Howard Stern stunned as sidekick dies in JAIL after being accused of child abduction

Shock jock HOWARD STERN's former radio sidekick KENNETH KEITH KALLENBACH has died at the age of 39, after contracting pneumonia in jail. Kallenbach - described by Stern as the "ultimate airhead" died on Thursday 24th at the Riddle Memorial Hospital in Pennsylvania.

He was in custody at Delaware County Jail after being arrested and charged with attempted child abduction. The death was revealed by his mother Fay Kallenbach, and broadcast on Stern's Sirius Satellite radio show. Fay claims her son suffered cystic fibrosis and wasn't properly cared for behind bars. County officials have disputed the allegation. This is truly a strange story. Whose child was he allegedly tring to abduct?
