Canada's break out artist Empire ISIS releases her sophomore album “BRAND NEW STYLE” JAN 20, 2009.

Empire ISIS, Canada’s breakout international phenomenon is bringing a “Brand New Style” on Tuesday, January 20^th, in Canada 2009 as she releases her sophomore album since 2007’s critically acclaimed demo LP “Sound The Trumpets”. Nominated 11 times in 2008 for awards such as BEST INTERNATIONAL ARTIST & BEST NEW POP ARTIST, this North-African beauty defies all preconceived ideas of your typical Urban artist.

Empire ISIS aka Empress Gangstress brings a new meaning to word "World Music" by breaking down the musical barriers and fusing Hiphop, Reggae into a pop format on her second LP "Brand New Style". ISIS has stayed true to her roots and movement while gaining international recognition on her DIY approach.

“Brand New Style” was recorded between Montreal, New York, Tel Aviv and Kingston. The album was recorded by industry super producers Prayon, (Beyonce, G-Unit, Sean Paul) and Overstand (Damien Marley, Sizzla) at studio such as Tuff Gong, Penthouse, & King Of Kings. ISIS has painstakingly developed her sound and image while writing and maintaining ownership of all her songs under her brothers record label Monumental Records distributed by DEP/Universal Music Group. Empire ISIS songs have been featured on 8 different shows this year. Hits such as “Dont’ Go Home” or “Participate” can be heard on ABC, CBS, CTV, and on MTV‘s number 1 show “The Hills”. Also winning major contests such as “Mytune Artist of the Year”, “International Artist of the Year” at the A&R Summit (NYC) Underground Urban Music Awards” and high energy type of Urban music which can be appreciated by all. From her unique look to her blazing lyrics, ISIS is a true provocateur challenging people’s perceptions, stereotypes and common modes of thinking.

Being half British half Moroccan but raised by a Ugandan stepfather who adopted her - Empire ISIS, grew up in different places such as: Canada, the UK and Morocco. At the age 16, ISIS set off for South and Central America, bicycling through 7 countries from Panama to Mexico. Her adventures in Latin America ignited the spark that would forever change her. However, it was only until she went to the rolling hills of Jamaica that she truly found herself. While filming a documentary about the BoBo Shanti (an isolated group of strict Rastafarians) in the hills of Jamaica that gave birth to conscious dancehall pioneer, (Sizzla) she realized being on stage and singing reggae was her calling. It was on this trip that ISIS first encountered foundation artists such as Chinna Smith and Dean Frazer who schooled her on the history and making of reggae music. ISIS put aside her camera, and picked up the mic.

She set out on her most challenging journey: making conscious urban music for the masses. In sum, Empire ISIS brings a militant, passionate, and high energy type of reggae music which can be appreciated by all. From her unique look to her blazing lyrics, ISIS is a true provocateur challenging people’s perceptions, stereotypes and common modes of thinking. Ultimately, ISIS says, “I want to inspire people to follow their dreams, to do what they’re here on earth for”.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK: CANADIAN ARTIST EMPIRE ISIS

Empire Isis is a dynamic artist I met at the Toronto Independent Music awards. Before that, I checked out this Canadian talented beauty out on the net then I was in touch with Jon Asher, the music Publicist and we planned to do an interview at the TIMA awards. Meeting her was such a pleasure as you will see in that interview video. She's just filled with tons of humility.

Although she and her gorgeous brother/Manager Awane are half Morrocans, She is Canada's fastest growing Urban Star and has been recognized as a true Indie success story in a time of musical turmoil and downsizing. Her album "Sounds of Trumpets" dropped digitally last month. You can listen to snippets at her MySpace page.

She had just come back from Morroco the day before after a big gig. Check out the 100,000 crowd! Half British half Moroccan but raised by a Ugandan stepfather who adopted her - Empire ISIS, grew up in different places such as: Canada, the UK and Morocco. At the age 16, ISIS set off for South and Central America. However, it was only until she went to the rolling hills of Jamaica that she truly found herself. Her music speaks for itself and Isis says, “I want to inspire people to follow their dreams, to do what they’re here on earth for”.

What amazes me about her is her humility. At least this is what I see as she reminds me of DJ Toomp who has produced all these songs we know and nobody really knows him that well. Toomp always likes to be in the background. This is a lady whose music is used in TV shows and we don't know her face until now. Isis shocked me as they called her on stage as the WINNER of the Best Out of Province Artist and she WON'T come on stage as if she were shy or something but it was just being humble. That is what I saw. This woman fascinates me. Her voice even fascinates me more. You should hear it.

Touring internationally and being nominated 10 times for different awards (her latest win at the Underground Music Awards for Best International Artist in New York City), ISIS played in front of 15 thousand plus people at the 2008 irie Jamboree in New York City last August 2008 where she shared the stage with Reggae Icon’s Sizzla Kolonji, Elephant Man, Beenie Man, Tarrus Riley & Cocoa Tea and many more.
