Empire Isis is a dynamic artist I met at the Toronto Independent Music awards. Before that, I checked out this Canadian talented beauty out on the net then I was in touch with Jon Asher, the music Publicist and we planned to do an interview at the TIMA awards. Meeting her was such a pleasure as you will see in that interview video. She's just filled with tons of humility.
Although she and her gorgeous brother/Manager Awane are half Morrocans, She is Canada's fastest growing Urban Star and has been recognized as a true Indie success story in a time of musical turmoil and downsizing. She had just come back from Morroco the day before after a big gig. Check out the 100,000 crowd! Half British half Moroccan but raised by a Ugandan stepfather who adopted her - Empire ISIS, grew up in different places such as: Canada, the UK and Morocco. At the age 16, ISIS set off for South and Central America. However, it was only until she went to the rolling hills of Jamaica that she truly found herself. Her music speaks for itself and Isis says, “I want to inspire people to follow their dreams, to do what they’re here on earth for”.
What amazes me about her is her humility. At least this is what I see as she reminds me of DJ Toomp who has produced all these songs we know and nobody really knows him that well. Toomp always likes to be in the background. This is a lady whose music is used in TV shows and we don't know her face until now. Isis shocked me as they called her on stage as the WINNER of the Best Out of Province Artist and she WON'T come on stage as if she were shy or something but it was just being humble. That is what I saw. This woman fascinates me. Her voice even fascinates me more. You should hear it.
Touring internationally and being nominated 10 times for different awards (her latest win at the Underground Music Awards for Best International Artist in New York City), ISIS played in front of 15 thousand plus people at the 2008 irie Jamboree in New York City last August 2008 where she shared the stage with Reggae Icon’s Sizzla Kolonji, Elephant Man, Beenie Man, Tarrus Riley & Cocoa Tea and many more.
