Search is tense for missing Marine helicopter during #Nepal earthquake #HNNEnvironment

Description Marines CH-46 Helicopter.jpg
File Photo

The hunt for a Marine helicopter that vanished in Nepal was expanded Wednesday with four U.S. aircraft and hundreds of Nepalese troops joining the search.

However, there was no sign of the missing UH-1Y Huey which was carrying six Marines and two Nepalese service members.

The chopper disappeared on Tuesday night while delivering aid to one of the hardest-hit regions of last month's devastating magnitude-7.8 earthquake that killed more than 8,000 people.

Hours earlier, a powerful aftershock rocked Nepal and killed dozens more people.

At around 9:45 a.m. local time on Wednesday (midnight ET), two Marine MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft were launched from Kathmandu in search of the missing Huey, according to a statement from Joint Task Force 505 that is assisting with the Nepal relief effort.

#HNNEnvironment Solar eclipse to darken skies Friday

The world is set to experience a total eclipse on Friday, although few people will see the eclipse in its total glory and North Americans will miss out entirely.

The total eclipse - when moon completely obscures our view of the sun - will happen mostly over the north Atlantic Ocean Friday morning and will only be visible in the Faroe Islands, located halfway between Iceland and the tip of Scotland, and Norway's Svalbard Islands.

Those remote islands are now destinations for scores of eclipse chasers and scientists like Jay Pasachoff at Williams College who see this as a unique opportunity to study the sun.

"We need good weather and we won't know until the last day whether we will get some holes in the clouds to see the eclipse," said Pasachoff, who was heading to Svalbard Wednesday and has seen more than 60 eclipses.

#HNNEnvironment So much snow one man is selling it in the USA (GRAPHIC PICS)

A man from Boston is selling boxes of snow -- a creative business idea he thought of while shoveling the 100+ inches outside his house this winter. Would you buy the novelty gift for a friend or family member? Seen it all his winter with what people are doing with snow as you can see above. nd what happens when all this snow melts. The dude is a good salesman. Like the phrase says if you can sell snow to the eskimos, u can sell anything.

#BREAKING 280 Miners RESCUED in #SouthAfrica but 199 still MISSING #HNNEnvironment

BBC is reporting that : Almost 200 workers are missing after fire broke out more than two km below the surface at a gold mine in South Africa. The mine owners -- Harmony Gold -- said the blaze at the Kusasalethu mine, west of Johannesburg, had been contained and 280 of the men on shift had been rescued after finding refuge in underground emergency bays. But it said rescue workers were still trying to trace another 199 miners -- and to put out the blaze.

#HNNEnvironment Congrats from #Nigeria to our friend #RosRunner @NBC12 #Richmond #Virginia on his 5th anniversary

Ros Runner via Facebook
Meteorology is easy in these parts. It's either dry or rainy season or hot and cold in the mornings of December and January and 87 degrees by 10am as I'm typing this. In America however, there are are 4 seasons. Winter, Spring. Summer and Autumn (fall)

One of my fave weather personalities on Facebook is Ros Runner of NBC affiliate Channel 12  and he's celebrating five years this week. Congrats Ros from all of us in Nigeria!! Below he posted on his Facebook page:
Today marks my 5 year anniversary with NBC12. It's also National Weatherperson's Day....a nice coincidence. Time flies when you are having fun smile emoticon
This is my longest stay at any television station since I began on this "Weatherman" journey back in 1997. How amazing to be working with such a hardworking and talented group of people....and it just happens to be the station I grew up watching! I'm blessed....thanks to all of you who watch everyday, or when you can smile emoticon I appreciate it very much!

There were nice smile emoticons on this message which vanished after my blog formatting. I love Richmond, Virginia and also connect with Richmond Police too on twitter at my gun crime handle @Snitchlady talking to Lt Dan Minton and helping post unsolved gun murders to help their communities to solve them. I went to Richmond in 1998 for Thanksgiving holidays. Lived in the US 30 yrs and left 2006.

#BREAKING UPDATE Thank GOD the #KeystoneXL Pipeline was BLOCKED by the US Senate #HNNEnvironment

Embedded image permalink

The US Senate just voted not to approve the ‪#‎KeystoneXL‬pipeline pic.twitter.com/6ETisS3y4g ‪#‎HNNEnvironment‬ This is the BEST thing that could ever happen to Canada. DO NOT HAVE AN OIL PIPELINE between both countries. Learn from us in Nigeria. Our ppl here actually go break the pipelines and steal fuel with thousands burned to death charred. If the pipeline were to burst anywhere in between, the environment is in real danger over there!

S/O to the Republicans!!! My opinions below as tweeted.

#HNNMemorial Virginia crematory catches fire after attempts to cremate 500 lb. body #HNNEnvironment

A blaze at a crematory near Mechanicsville Turnpike send plumes of heavy black smoke into the air Wednesday afternoon. (Source: Shelia-Bruce Glass)

A crematorium off Mechanicsville Turnpike in Henrico, Virginia caught fire Wednesday afternoon as an employee was cremating a 500 pound body. Neighbors could see the smoke billowing from the smokestack around noon. The fire marshal is ruling it an accident.

There have been incidents like this before at cremation companies all over the nation. But in 20 years of working here, the manager at Southside Cremation says it's never happened to them.

He says it happened as a result of the size of the body his workers were processing at the time. When it comes to handling obese bodies, extra steps are taken to ensure the cremation process goes smoothly. Jerry Hendrix says the worker took all the right steps -- but because this particular situation involved a 500 pound body, things took an unexpected turn.

"The body was so obese that the actual body fat came off and went straight up the sack and hit the roof material, the rubber roof we have up there and that's what made it go up like it did…It was no negligence involved in it. My guys, we did all we could. Once it started, the grease hit the roof and started the fire, the only thing we could do is dial 911 and get the fire department here,” Hendrix said.

There were 3 bodies on site at the cremation site at the time of the fire, but the manager says none were damaged in the process. As for the 500 pound body, the company was able to finish preparing it later Wednesday.

Three people were inside of the plant at the time of the fire. All were able to get out unharmed. The fire was contained to the roof and was under control within half an hour.

The business will be closed for a few days to repair damage to the roof and furnace.

I cannot laugh and cannot look as it will be disrespect to the dead. May God help us, with the cremation of Ebola patients here in Africa, this company could have set off a health hazard that is worse

#HNNVet #HNNEnvironment Warn your kids about this BUG!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS....this fuzzy little bug is called the "Puss Caterpillar." If you touch it, you'll be poked by its tiny venomous spines. The pain is worse than a bee, jellyfish, or scorpion, it can cause vomiting and convulsions. It eventually transforms into the Pussy Moth (Megalopyge Opercularis). They can be found all over the southeast (yes, in VA). But right now, they're dealing with a huge number in Florida. WARN YOUR CHILDREN.

Everything in Florida is in Nigeria. Same climate. We are studying this bug and the norm is not to even touch bugs here.

#HNNEnvironment Tragedy in #Chicago as FIRE kills 4 members of one family.

GONE TOO SOON: These four children died Monday morning in an extra-alarm fire.

16-year-old Carliysia Clark, her two younger brothers, Carlvon and Shamarion, and their little sister, Eriana Smith, all gone too soon.

Firefighters found the two girls in a closet. The teen was shielding the younger girl from the blaze when she died. The two boys were found in a bedroom. Very tragic story coming out of Chicago!
FULL STORY: http://abc7.ws/WHZo4D

Daniel Kirk whose girlfriend is a family member asked ppl on FB not to pass judgement. Below are some comments.

  • Daniel Kirk This is my girlfriend's family. The fire spread to their unit. It did not originate in their house. It spread. The parents didn't abandon their kids. They have burn marks all over there body and broken bones from jumping. Dnt sit on social media and blast innocent victims. You dnt know what it is like looking for children in total darkness, all while inhaling black smoke. You dnt know what it's like to have to jump from a burning building to survive. Know the facts before you post
