#HIPHOSSIP5 CANADIAN EXCLUSIVE : MEET BRYAN FINLAY, BELL MEDIA'S EMERGING ARTIST OF JULY 2012.

I met Bryan Finlay online, he met me thru Toronto teen rap phenomenom L’il Jaxe’s website (formerly L’il JayZ). Finlay is a pop artist from Edmonton, Alberta Canada. His song “Good Times” was produced by Producer Hands Up, a member of another Canadian band. “Sentimental Fool” is a very good song I love which he recorded with Mike James and Troy Sampson who own a music group and were involved in the Bounce mall singing competition which produced some Juno winners including past winners like Quantesha Benjamin and Kreesha Turner. She called Kreesha Turner a “sweet girl” and loved her so much. I reminded him of the “Bounce with me” song Kreesha had on the radio back then calling it an ode to the station. Bryan won that talent competition too meaning that he’s gonna be famous, like it or not people! LOL.

He liked the Winnie the Pooh song and sang it all around the house performing it in front of his parents. He was in a talent show in grade 7. I asked him who he would love to work with in the music biz and he told me Joshua from Marianas Trench. He praised Josh as a song writer especially co-writing that monster hit “Call me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen. He chose Alyssa Reed as the female artist he would love to work with. We spoke about the award shows and he was nominated for the Edmonton Music awards as Best Male artist. I asked him about going to work in the USA in the music business. “Sentimental Fool” was picked up by a US clothing retailer to play in their stores. At the time of my interview in July, he had never been to the US and wanted to visit Texas. Texas will be the sister state to Alberta in my view, the cowboy stuff.

He loves Justin Bieber, wish Drake will drop a verse on his album and told me Simon Cowell and the X-Factor debate and other talent show. He thought Canadian Idol and X-Factor should be back in a Canadian form. He even suggested Michael Buble as a judge and we talked about Celine Dion and Jully Black laughing over the strictness of those singers as Judges. I asked him for his birthday wish to pick an artist to perform with on a tour, which was a tough decision. He picked Britney Spears! We talked about the autotune being overused in music. He said it’s “getting kinda old.” Looking at Jesse J and Adele, he praised their real voices. Jesse J is his fave artist and he sang that verse for me. WOW! His voice was off the chain!

We talked about touring with the young teen groups. He was about to turn 19 in August and I asked him on his everyday choices as fan always want to know. He uses a Samsung Galaxy, loves Subway as fave fast food, fave reality show was a tie between Jersey Shore and the Real world on MTV. I got to know Bryan very well. He is an everyday young man. He will be getting an album together in less than 1.5 years and has these 3 singles available on i-tunes via his website. As the Bell emerging Artist of the month of July 2012, he shouted out Connie Bernadi at Magic 100FM in Ottawa, Canada for promoting his Bell honour. I actually got that press release as well and was very impressed with Bryan. Bryan is incredible, fantastic and talented.

Finally, I asked Bryan to sing me a song. This was SICK!! He truly is talented!! He sang the chorus of one of his songs…“All I can wait is for you to discover me.” Though I am no longer in Canada, Bryan Finlay no doubt, I will meet somewhere, some day. Look how long it took for me to meet Drake, Justin Bieber, Snoop Dogg and my lovely friend the late Whitney Houston. It took some traveling around the world and sheer luck. I have met Snoop in 3 countries, Canada, Nigeria and the USA.

Remember, this is about your fave singers as they are emerging. I love to interview them as they are emerging and thus, one day when Bryan blows up big, just like I sat next to Justin in 2009 at the MMVA’s when he was only a visiting 15-year-old backstage, Ciara when she had no album. Nicki Minaj when she was a model with no album and Young Jeezy when he was just selling CD’s out of the car outside the Hot 1079FM venue in Atlanta in 2003. Bryan Finlay will become so big and I said it today on this my July 2012 interview with him as Bell Media’s emerging artist of the month for July 2012. Congrats Bryan. It was worth the wait to show you to the world in my HipHossip anniversary special.—MsKemi Dec 18th 2012 Nigeria.

NEW AWESOME MUSIC: SCOTT SHARPE FEAT PATRICK CHRISTOPHER "BRIGHT LIGHTS."

Directed by G.Dot and produced by Young K, these two white rappers got next, are ahead and shutting down the hip-hop industry. Eminem, Yellawolf and Asher Roth may be applying for unemployment soon. Kinda reminds me when Luke started. ALL FRESH! You know my boy CLASSIFIED! These dudes are AHEAD! Scott Sharpe features Patrick Christopher in his new video and both mix the combo of hip-hop and R&B in this awesome mini music flick, good to the eyes and all fresh. It's called "Bright Lights." No drama, produced and directed by Young K and G.dot, done very well and should be a MuchMusic Countdown item. I Love the end where they see THEIR name in the bright lights and dreams do come true! Follow them all on twitter. Way to go guys!! Hard work pays!!

INDEPENDENCE DAY WEEKEND: HIPHOSSIP'S TOP 10 INDEPENDENT ARTISTS IN CANADA STEPPING UP THEIR GAME.

By the way, that's my personal twitter up there @Snitchlady if you want drama to consume your life. If you are like me the American or you the Canadian, either way all of us celebrated our Independence Day or as we say here in Canada, Domination of the Queen Day aka Dominion Day aka Canada Day.

There is certainly one thing that is getting obvious these day in the world of Canadian music. I came up with my own list of the TOP 10 Independent Canadian artists stepping up their game these days. That's not to say others are not but this bunch are well ahead. Some may have not gotten that humongous record deal or huge video budget but they do their best with their independent labels and with some labels like Tony Sal's CP records, as Sal told me
"Kemi...I'm not just building a record label, I am building an empire of successful artists." Quote of the Century on HipHossip.
This list is in no particular order but I can tell you that I have spoken to every one of them and you will hear my interviews in the next few weeks. Here we go!
  1. Peter Jackson Twitter@PeterJackson905
  2. The Kid Famous @thekidfamous
  3. Ghettosocks @ghettosocks

WORLD EXCLUSIVE: MEET VITAL! THE NEW CANADIAN RAP TEEN HEARTTHROB. RELEASES NEW VIDEO TODAY ON HIPHOSSIP.

No doubt, I see Drizzy and Chris Brown having some kinda rough competition here coming their way. Vital is a dynamic 16-year-old Torontonian rapper born right here in Canada. He is the BIGGEST young rapper buzzing in T-Dot right now after performing at the Faboulous afterparty during the Canadian Music Awards aka the JUNOS. Vital is a normal every day Toronto kid who attends a public high school for the arts and he is so humble and cute. Geez, we got Tyler Mederios, Justin Bieber and now Vital. One in every ethnic group? That's what Canada prides itself in. Multiethnicity rocks here!

Gosh I wish I was 16 again. All these young men are Canadian and spell one word T-A-L E-N-T-E-D! I got to sit down with him at CMW (Canadian Music Week) and that interview is coming. He is very popular with the young ladies.

Vital is also planning to speak out against gun crimes and gang violence in Toronto for Toronto Crime Stoppers during National Crime Victims Awareness Week in Toronto, Canada and is also planning some anti-crime mall appearances and performances the week of April 10th-17th 2011. With a 15-year-old murder school shooting trial going on right now in Toronto (R.I.P Jordan Manners) and another 16-year-old firing shots 2 weeks ago in a parking lot, he wants to get this message out to his peers. Better join his pages to know his movement cos it's all about the fans for Vital. He's the BIGGEST teen Rapper out of Canada now...PERIOD!"

Vital is signed to King Alexander Entertainment and Keminications PR. He has newly revived his social media with a brand new Twitter, FB page and YouTube account. Join them now. He will be available for interviews beginning next week. Contact Keminications@yahoo.ca

CANADIAN ARTISTS TO KNOW: TnT - "Missing You" produced by Vokab

TNT is a Toronto rap group from Regents Park. Take a look at this video above. I'm sure you have this issue in your hood too. These young men are very talented and sometimes there has been a perception of all these young rap groups as being gangstas. There are issues with police and other community problems like homicides, guns and so on in Regents Park. We lost 4 alone last year in there.

Albert Kiwubeyi, Nicholas Yombo, Sealand White and Jermaine Derby. Those four 15-18 were all alive when this video was shot and now all gone. My advice to police and community is to work with these young men instead of unfairly targeting them sometimes. Give them a chance and see what they may have to offer.

This is probably a fitting tribute where an entire community comes out and pays tribute to all the ones lost in the struggle. Perfect 10 for this video. Read more about Regents Park. Another rap group who came out of that area are JUNO nominees POINT BLANK.

TnT consists of rappers Turk and Tyke who both originate from the Regent Park housing community in Toronto, Canada. Coming up in this harsh environment with a love for hip hop has produced a unique street sound moulded and shaped by personal trials and tribulations. It’s a sound that has earned the group not just local but national recognition on a unheard of independent scale. Their venomous lyrics are rife with street tales of triumph and heartache along with the hunger shared by the new generation of reality rap artist. Their lyrics warn kids about the dangers and downfalls of thug life and try and show that there are options in life other than the ones they chose without preaching.

THE MARY ROSE OBSESSION EXPERIENCE: CANADA'S DYNAMIC ROCK BAND.

Chris Bundas has some hot swagga! Ladies have to e-mail me to get a piece of Chris.

KJ took in some good rock music alongside fans

Louis Bundas is their Manager and father of Chris and Matt

David, Matt, Kemi, Chris and Daniel

It is not news if you have not heard that MRO (if I can get my hand on their logo name MяO™) won the first two band contests that may lead them to London, UK where they will open up for Bon Jovi. This is a rock'n'Roll band that I have been following from day one. The Gandinetti and the Bundas brothers were at Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Toronto just 2 weeks ago where KJ and I attended their first challenge in the "Battle of the Bands" and they soared with some sets out of this world. Going to an MRO show is a PARTY! They are not a cookie cutter band. Everything's original and smooth.

The album name is a secret and there may even be a song about me...lol. OK, they spoke to me about young children getting into music and how we have all seen them popping up as YouTube phenomenoma. They really value the fact that LIVE music and playing the actual instruments is a valued thing when delivering good music to an audience. I talked to Matt Bundas the drummer in the band about the dynamics of drumming. Watch that segment in the video.

I spoke to David and Daniel Grandinetti and how the bass guitarists connect with the drummers, in this case with Matt. Daniel is the vocalist and does a good job at it!! Chris Bundas is the guitarist with some "extra" swagga aka lead Guitarist. The shiny lens glasses always on making his good looks even hotter. I tried to snatch them off his face but he guaranteed that there is another one coming right out of his pocket. Tonight 2/23/11 is the finals and we wish them good luck in winning this trophy. MRO is the band that woke up Rock N'Roll! ALL PERFORMANCE SETS ARE COMING TONIGHT.

ABOUT MяO™

The New Rock N’ Roll…

When Mary Rose Obsession released their demos for their upcoming studio LP and hit the clubs of their home town Toronto, they caused a roar in the local rock scene. Finally… a real rock n roll band had surfaced after many years gone. The band quickly became notorious for their image, sound and shows being an energetic party atmosphere; wild fans singing and dancing, loud and rowdy, lots of alcohol and gorgeous women to top off the great music. This band knew how to rock… and how to roll; something that has been lacking in the music world for a long time. Without question… this band had something about them.

But if the industry and fans thought that this was the peak of the two pairs of brothers’ power, they may want to reconsider after hearing “Mary Rose Obsession’s” debut studio album “Chains to Nowhere.” Released by their own independent label; F.A.M.E Records, “Chains to Nowhere” continues the bands goal of bringing rock n’ roll back to the mainstream.

The truth is… we all can't deny the love of a good rock n' roll song. Whether you’re a fan of jazz, country, hip hop, rap, or even opera, chances are you're a fan of Rock N' Roll. Yes… Rock N Roll is music, but it's also so much more. Everyone has a little of that attitude… the coolness… the swagger… the edge that is associated with Rock N' Roll …and everyone would like to have a little more. Why? Because it’s a lifestyle…it's infectious…it's decadent…it's fantasy.

The music of Mary Rose Obsession (MRO) has been attracting the attention of crowds wherever they go…Why? MRO is a good old-fashioned Rock N’ Roll band with a modern edge. Classic…Timeless! They are bringing back the party, the energy, the sincerity in music. The intensity is growing! Yes, Rock N’ Roll still lives… it just has a new face… a new name… Mary Rose Obsession.

"We put our money where our mouths were and took the band to its next level. It’s tough to get a break in this industry and we weren’t going to wait around for someone to give us our shot and tell us how to do it. We were going to get our shot ourselves and do it our way… now!" adds guitarist and lyricist Christopher Bundas.

"We want to leave a big mark…” lead singer Daniel Grandinetti continued. “We started our own record label and went into one of the top studios in Canada to record. We brought in some of the most well respected people in the business to help us do it too.” The band has taken its time with a number of the industry’s tops to produce this album to the fullest.

In May of 2009, the brothers of MRO started tracking at Metalworks studio just outside of Toronto. Alongside co-producer and head engineer Chris Crerar, (Three Days Grace, The Stills, Moneen,) lightning struck with their recordings and the Toronto indie band was on their way with something big. After spending a year in the studio recording and mixing, the album was then sent down to Hollywood, California where Tom Baker (Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver,) gave the final touches in mastering. The record came back undoubtedly… delivering on every level.

“Chains to Nowhere” has every type of song you need for it to be the soundtrack of your life. It’s one of those records you put in the car and just drive to. With its stunning melodies, driving guitars, and undeniable grooves, “Chains to Nowhere” surpasses the promise that Mary Rose Obsession is new… is fresh… is “Rock N’ Roll”. From the lead track and first single off the album “She Used To”, let the record play through all 14 songs and you won’t find a disappointment. Whether it’s the feel good “Rock N’ Roll Queen” or the vulnerable “Say Goodbye”, the emotional intensity, raw energy and true talent is so refreshing to hear and connect with. “Chains to Nowhere” is all heart and soul from start to finish… Literally speaking as the album is a concept that tells a unique and haunting story, deep within the hooks and catchy rock n’ roll melodies.

Based on lost journal entries that date back to April 14th 2006, the album takes you on a rollercoaster by diving into the emotions and characteristics of an obsessive personality. The concept shows the journey of an individual’s struggle with their obsessions and how it becomes a never ending circle, an overwhelming battle that takes control of everything in your life. Sex, drugs, money, lies, lust, love and fame. … The trip of self destruction down obsession’s way…

Based out of Toronto, this Canadian Rock N’ Roll band consists of lead singer and guitarist Daniel Grandinetti, bassist David Grandinetti, lead guitarist Christopher Bundas, and drummer Matthew Bundas. The two pair of brothers have created a modern sound of Rock N’ Roll for a new generation. No auto tune… no Mickey Mouse branding. The band believes in the roots of rock where the musicians wrote, sang, and played their own material based on their experiences…their lives. They spent the time and the money, worked with some of the industry's top professionals and made an album that was a reflection of themselves, something they would be proud of, an eclectic snapshot in time…something they felt would leave their mark on the history of music.
There is an aura that surrounds the band…their style, the sound, the energy. They exude confidence…a kind of hypnotic trance not seen in a long time. The boys of MRO are bringing back the party…and you definitely want to be on the guest list.

KIDDIE TAKEOVER: CANADIAN GIRL SIGNS RECORD DEAL WITH SIMON COWELL AFTER SHE POSTS SONG ON YOUTUBE.

Simon Cowell has a new addition to his record label after signing a youngster who has become an online phenomenon.Heather Russell, a 10-year-old from Toronto, has racked up a devoted following on video sharing website YouTube.com with her performance of self-penned track Every Step Of The Way. And Cowell is clearly a fan - he's snapped up Russell for the roster at his label Syco after meeting the talented schoolgirl.

The babies have taken over. Step up your game grown ups...lol. Play an instrument, sing a Lady Gaga song and you're famous.

FEMALE GREYSON CHANCE: CANADIAN GIRL TO OPEN FOR LADY GAGA AFTER SHE POSTS SONG ON YOUTUBE.

Three days ago, Maria Aragon posted a video of herself singing a Lady Gaga tune on YouTube. Now, the 10-year-old Winnipeg girl is on a first-name basis with the pop superstar -- and has been invited by her idol to sing a duet on stage. Aragon, who has become an overnight Internet sensation for her "Born This Way" cover, was surprised with a phone call from Lady Gaga on Friday afternoon."Hello, my gorgeous Maria," said Lady Gaga. The phone call was orchestrated by Toronto's 99.9 Virgin Radio station."It's actually really just amazing," Aragon told reporters at local FM station Hot 103 after the phone call. "I even cried over the conversation because I didn't expect for Lady Gaga to talk to me ... It was really overwhelming and crazy."

It all started on Thursday when Lady Gaga praised Aragon's performance on her Twitter account, which has more than eight million followers."Can't stop crying watching this. This is why I make music. She is the future," Gaga tweeted. In less than 48 hours, Aragon's YouTube video had more than 2 million views.By Friday, her video was in the most popular, top viewed and most viewed categories. The Grade 5 student at Isaac Brock School received even more praise from the superstar on the telephone."When I saw you, so young and so beautiful singing those words so purely, it reminded me why I wrote this song in the first place and it reminded me why I make music," Lady Gaga said. When Gaga heard Aragon was coming to her concert in Toronto next month, she said they should perform a duet."

Maybe you're just gonna have to come on stage with me and sing that song. What do you think?" Lady Gaga said."That would be really cool," Aragon said.Aragon's cousin Wayne Santos said the international media frenzy has been overwhelming for the family."We're just trying to do our best to kinda brace ourselves and ... try to decide as a family what we wanna do with the next few weeks, months, years,"Santos said. "Whatever the options are for her and just make sure she's ... on the right track and just keep her grounded."

Remember when Greyson Chance sang another Gaga song? He became a sensation too. I got to get KJ to sing a ...you guessed it....a Gaga song. LOL! Good luck Maria and you owe us a phoner.

CANADIAN EXPLOSION: CHURCH CHIZZLE OFFICIAL VIDEO "I'M COMING"

Since when was the last time we saw a Toronto Rapper so positive in their rap video. First there is no proverbial bottle of Vodka being tossed around. The kid is drinking juice y'all. We see the fellas counting their money with their pitbull on guard, but do you see drugs? We see the nice car but do you see a GUN? NO! And there's the white gal honey next to him in the right nighties and not the proverbial underwear madness.

It's a video and it is art but look how positive as KJ watched it. Damn, who casted the vid? Good job Church. You're a friend here at HipHossip. Church Chizzle is a definite role model and don't forget the lyrics. Look at his face scars and what he says about going to heaven and back. Church, you ain't coming...you've ARRIVED! I'm impressed!

Ms Kemi

The debut single & video which will take you through Church's upbringing, & struggles, meanwhile displaying the raw talent that justifies his self invitation into the Hip-Hop world. (I'm coming!)

CANADIAN EXPLOSION: MEET THE DYNAMIC LOUISBOYZ (NEW MUSIC "LISA")

OMG! Haterz can't touch this one! Why isn't my name Lisa for God's sakes?? Canada is fastly TAKING OVER this music game!!!
Warning: Without headphones, listening to this song is like eating McDonald's fries without ketchup!! Crank the volume and put the headphones ON! You were warned! Rated 10/10!

LouisBoyz is a newly formed Toronto Music Group whose music commands a new genre they have termed "R and Hop." This reflects a combination of R&B and Hip-Hop in a song. The mix of both genres gives the listener vibes of R&B with hooks and choruses of rap fused into the song. Marcus Voyce is the main R&B vocalist in the song "LISA." He raps at the beginning of the song and switches to the R&B content with PMCK rapping in the middle of the song and teen rapper Scribblez at the end.

PMCK is a creative music icon in Toronto, having worked with a management company servicing artists like Saukrates and Nelly Furtado his studio is notable as recording home to three iconic albums. Drake's "So far So Gone", "Teflon Don" by Rick Ross and the Trey Songz "Ready" CD. LouisBoyz aims to channel young people's energies into making positive music.

Marcus Voyce grew up as a youth who turned his life drastically around into a positive role model. Now as a man, he has been in the music business for four years and with new hits like "Diary Girl and Getaway Girl," he is well known in the social media circuit on the internet and he aims to empower youth in music and steer them away from crime. Voyce is also popular with the female fans with regards to his sexy vocals and vibes resonating in his music.

17-year-old Scribblez aims to do the same with his peers as the youngest member of the group. Scribblez hit “So Easy” has been a success online with a solid fan base. LouisBoyz’s Juno submission hit “Lisa” has gained a high rotation status on Flow 93.5FM Toronto and even won the Flow Control segment on Monday October 25th 2010. LouisBoyz is definitely a group with JUNO appeal! Download it on I-tunes NOT today, right NOW!

This is the artist that created the word and told us the real meaning of H.A.T.E.R.S!

Having Anger Towards Everyone Reaching Success! OMG! Canada is in the house!! Gettin Money Feat Nes, Tonight and Pina Colada girls are all HITS! This guy is so smart that Diddy referenced to him on Twitter a few days ago!! Several big artists wanna work with him in the NYC area and I can just tell you he's gonna blow up in your faces....

Born in Portugal, the R&B artist fell in love with music at the tender age of 4. As he grew up, a constant fascination with music remained to be his strongest and only passion. Inspired by Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and others, Ferreira’s dad nurtured the growth of the singer by training his voice during his local band rehearsals. Winning a city wide talent show at the age of 5, and moving abroad to Canada started a life long career in music.

The journey fostered a path to which Ferreira began writing and recording through his teenage years. Performing in front of 1000 people in the Dominican opened doors upon his return home. He met with music icon Chad James Pollett and the two ventured west to record Ferreira’s first 4-song EP, a heart throbbing summer release. Ferreira aims to capture the essence of a fun, flirty demographic, timeless to all. “Like every artist that I’ve ever been inspired by, I want the world to be inspired by me and passion about my music as much as I am… for every song, which is a story to tell and an imagination to embrace…” he says.

Ferreira has attained approximately 1.7 million plays for the snippets of his songs on MySpace and has been featured in at least eight music blogs around the world from France to the United States. He is also getting lots of radio play globally on several internet radio stations and i-tune downloads plus transitioning into mainstream radio station airplay.
