BREAKING NEWS: MONTREAL RAPPER BAD NEWS BROWN MURDERED!

MONTREAL Rapper Paul Frappier, known as Bad News Brown, has been found dead. His body was discovered by a passerby in the southwestern part of Montreal by the Lachine Canal near abandoned buildings, police said.Police spokesman Oliver lapointe said there was evidence of violence at the scene."We do not know the motive and we have no witnesses," Lapointe said.Frappier's publicist issued a statement saying they were made aware of the artist, harmonica player and rapper's death Saturday morning."

Bad News Brown's death is a great loss for the entire hip-hop and music community in Quebec," Frappier's manager Henry Gelot said in the statement. "In addition to being one of the first rappers from Quebec to reach international acclaim, Bad News Brown has certainly left a mark on everyone who knew him."Friend Bodo Lunetz said he only had good things to say about Frappier."He was a guy with a big heart," Luentz said.He added Frappier didn't have any financial problems or known enemies.Originally from Haiti, Frappier lived with an adoptive family in Montreal until his teen years.

He played harmonica in the Metro stations before becoming a star. The bio on his Facebook page says he opened for Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, 50 Cent and Soulja Boy. He released his debut album, Born 2 Sin, last year. He is also in the latest movie from Canadian director Michel Jette called Bumrush, due out this year.Fans took to Frappier's fan page on Facebook to offer their condolences."You left a positive mark on this earth," one person wrote."Your sounds will flow for eternity," another wrote.Police said there are no suspects and the investigation continues.

CANADIAN ARTIST EXPLOSION: MEET DiRTY RADiO, VANCITY'S BEST RAPPER RIGHT NOW.

DiRTY RADiO (aka Farshad Edalat) is a Vancouver-based singer/songwriter/producer and multi-instrumentalist. Known throughout the Vancity music scene for his vocal and percussion abilities, he has been crafting his sound over the past few years all while writing, producing and remixing for other artists including Sherry St. Germain, Chin Injeti, K-OS, and Kay. 2010 saw the release of his first solo album titled "Debut", a progressive pop experience, infused with hip-hop, rnb and dance influences.

The record was written, recorded, produced in Vancouver's Greenhouse studios by progressive music production team SEX-ED (which he also co-founded). The process of creating the album was well-documented and is available to fans on Youtube through a series of video logs. He is currently enjoying national exposure with his first radio single "MY HEART" featuring Vancouver-artist/producer Sherry St. Germain. The album "Debut" is available digitally from off his website at dirtyradio.ca, as well as on iTunes.

Since when was the last time we saw a Toronto Rapper so positive in their rap video. First there is no proverbial bottle of Vodka being tossed around. The kid is drinking juice y'all. We see the fellas counting their money with their pitbull on guard, but do you see drugs? We see the nice car but do you see a GUN? NO! And there's the white gal honey next to him in the right nighties and not the proverbial underwear madness.

It's a video and it is art but look how positive as KJ watched it. Damn, who casted the vid? Good job Church. You're a friend here at HipHossip. Church Chizzle is a definite role model and don't forget the lyrics. Look at his face scars and what he says about going to heaven and back. Church, you ain't coming...you've ARRIVED! I'm impressed!

BREAKING NEWS: DYNAMIC CANADIAN RAPPER DY OF CP RECORDS REPORTED MISSING!

This is a story that is kinda shocking to me in the industry. I cannot get a word out of anyone and I have not been able to reach DY's Publicist Lisa Persaud either. Toronto Police is reporting the superstar rapper and singer DY MISSING! What do you mean missing? I have seen him a few times at MuchMusic nut never met him personally. I spoke to his Publicist about features in the past and KJ and I love his music. I sure hope TPS (Toronto Police Service) and Mexican authorities work together if in fact he went to Mexico.

This dude is HIGHLY talented and I will keep him in my prayers. With all the drama going on in Mexico these days, so many Canadians and Americans have been killed, missing and such. The standard of the cops over there is questionable as you can see entire police departments have been killed in the cartel war as well. Much Music's Re Hot blog reports that "DY was last seen middle of August at his video shoot says Matt Attfield, DMD Promotions national publicist, who also said that he is unsure who the last person was to see DY but that he was seen at the video shoot for “That’s My Spot” on August 8th about a week before he was scheduled to go to Mexico.

The last Tweet from his account was on September 8th when he said, “Happy birthday to my favourite voice on the radio @jjisjeni. All the best!” That was him wishing Flow 93.5FM Toronto personality Jeni McKenzie a Happy Birthday. This story is as bizarre as it could get. My calls to several industry people were mixed while some could not be reached. Some are speculating a "publicity stunt" but why and for what? It's almost 3 months and his family is very worried. DY as you know is on the same CP record label as Danny Fernandez and Belly among others. CP Records CEO Tony Sal speaks for all in them in his press release statement:

“DY is such a great young talent. All of the artists and staff at CP Records have him and his family in our prayers.”

CONGRATULATIONS TO RAPPER K'NAAN ON THE RELEASE OF TROUBADOR.

I met with K'naan on December 16th 2008 at a gig where he performed in Toronto. This undeniable Somalian Canadian Rapper is no doubt one to know in 2009. Let me tell you. He is so concrete and tells it like it is. K'naan spoke to me about his album which comes out today. TROUBADOR! The hit song "ABC" is so popular on the radio and among the youngsters that KJ did the kids version of the interview.



Our Kid Reporter asked why K'naan sang about ABC's and not 123's then twisted the question around again. One of the things that fascinated me was when I asked him about collaborations in hip-hop. He said he doesn't necessarily do collabs simply because he likes an artist and he spoke about the ongoing Somalian pirate crisis we hear about in the news. He calls them "Coastguards" while he says the media call them pirates. We also talked about Somalian kids vanishing from the U.S traveling to Somalia to fight! They call home and say "Mom, I'm in Somalia." This is a must listen to interview.

Man! This shyt is good! Listen to the lyrics of this talented Canadian artist Solitaire. He is very personable too as I actually met him at last year's MMVA rehearsals. He was with Kardinal Offishall's crew and despite the fact that I did not belong in that section of the backstage area, he broke off from the team just to take pictures with my son who will now be the KJ the Kid Reporter. I am planning an in-depth interview with him and KJ will be doing one too.

K'NAAN IS TOURING CANADA NEXT WEEK!!!

Have you gotten your tickets? He's playing at the Phoenix Concert theater and then it's off to Montreal at the Metropolis. His debut album The Dusty Foot Philosopher, which was released in 2005 to critical acclaim won the Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year in 2006, and was nominated for the inaugural Polaris Music Prize. It also won the BBC Radio 3 Award for World Music in the newcomer category for 2007.

The Dusty Foot Philosopher will be re-released and re-packaged as a "Deluxe Edition" featuring new mixes and a bonus DVD in the United States (and various international territories) by the emerging media company and record label iM (Interdependent Media, Inc.) in 2008.

He is currently working on his new album Troubadour and it is set for release in early 2009 One of his singles, ABC's is in the videogame Madden NFL 09.
