#HNNCulture: STOP HATING on #Somali North-Americans! Barkhad Abdi is an EXAMPLE of what U can illustrate!

Congrats to Minnesota's own, Barkhad Abdi! He is Somali-American. 
He won a British Academy Award for his role in "Captain Phillips" over the weekend. Keep hating on Somalis and see that they can be outstanding in their work. #HNNAfrica is proud to empower #Somali teens since my Canadian days in Toronto and Edmonton. I will be traveling to Somalia later in 2014. 

Minnesota is the largest Somali community in the United States while Toronto and Edmonton are the Canadian ones.

I was once ripped by haters include police who never wanted these people to be empowered in a positive way. The issue with me and Toronto police was later resolved. Read it here.

#HNNCulture NORAD tracks Santa. Where is he now? Somewhere in Africa?

It’s almost Christmas and Santa Claus has made an on-time departure from the North Pole, at least according to a U.S. military command.

In what is an annual tradition, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), a U.S.-Canadian operation based in Colorado Springs, is tracking the jolly red-robed globe trotter as he zips around the world in his sled with his trusty reindeer crew, and occasionally an escort of two fighter jets.

The origins of tracking Santa date back to 1955 when a local ad to speak directly with Santa printed the wrong phone number — instead directing children to a military defense operations center.

Tracking Santa grew from there after officers on duty actually fielded the kids questions.

These days parents and children can visit NORAD’s website and pinpoint his whereabouts with the help of the popular Santa Tracker program.

Those eager for Santa’s take-off can also count down the hours on the track Santa clock on the website.

Last year the website attracted more than 22 million visitors.

NORAD says it can keep up with Santa’s swift pace by using satellites and an “infrared sensor to detect heat signatures from Rudolph’s nose,” as the lead reindeer helps pull Santa’s sleigh across the sky.

This year, NORAD said it was sending animated warplanes alongside the sleigh, a move that drew criticism from some child advocates who said children might worry if they believed Santa was vulnerable to attack.

NORAD says it began depicting jets following the sleigh in the 1960s and the planes would only be deployed to help Santa enter North American airspace.

There is a Christmas controversy after this nativity scene was removed from a SC air force base. The nativity was removed after a complaint from the Military Religious Freedom Foundation.

Young Girls in my Nigerian neighborhood

Eight girls are currently admitted at Nakuru General Provincial Hospital in Kenya after a botched circumcision exercise. Neighbours raised the alarm after the girls started bleeding yet their parents who okayed the process refused to take the girls to hospital.. Police are also searching for the parents of the girls, who reportedly went into hiding.

Well, I remember getting circumcized at 5 and went home in bleeding diapers. In the name of tradition I asked my mom why? My grandmother arranged it when we were young and my mother shed a tear saying she was brainwashed to do it. I have been very open about this describing my sexuality to Nigerians on social media. No orgasms unless you use a sex toy and so many other personal issues. Seems like someone forgot that one day, we girls become mothers, wives and lovers. these issues have forced many women in Nigeria to keep silent and husbands go out for sex. Believe it or not.
