VH1 crowns 'Fight the Power' as best hip-hop song.

http://www.morethings.com/pictures/music/public-enemy-flava-flav-chuck-d.jpg
Let the debates begin: VH1 has compiled its list of the 100 greatest hip-hop songs, and Public Enemy's black power anthem Fight the Power tops the list.

The cable channel will count down its list in series of shows starting Monday. At No. 2 is the Sugar Hill Gang's groundbreaking song, Rapper's Delight, followed by Dr. Dre's Nuthin but a 'G' Thang at No. 3. Run-D.M.C.'s Walk This Way with Aerosmith and Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five's The Message round out the top five.

Salt 'N Pepa was the only female act in the top 10, with their early hit Push It. Two of rap's biggest names — Jay-Z and Eminem — didn't make the top 10, though they are in the top 20.

Other acts on the list include the Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Biz Markie, Black Sheep and J.J. Fad.

The list comes as VH1 prepares to honor the pioneers in rap once again as part of its annual Hip-Hop Honors show, which this year celebrates Slick Rick, De La Soul, Cypress Hill, Naughty by Nature and Too Short. That show airs Oct. 6.

A REAL HIP-HOP BLOG DENOUNCES THE VH1 HIP-HOP BLOG CATEGORY!!

The Smoking Section has denounced VH1's category in the Hip-Hop honors for best blog. Truedat, I should have been on there too but he is right. "Gossip is not hip-hop they say." Kinda mimicks the BET one where Mediatakeout was called a "Blog" and even won! All the nominees are really not hip-hop blogs but celebrity gossip blogs that may have one or two hip-hop artist featured.

Sounds like I'm calling Crystal at MTVN. LOL!

HIPHOSSIP VOTES FOR THE VH1 HIP-HOP HONORS.

When I endorse certain things on my blog, I want you to FOLLOW THE LEADER. The VH1 Honors are going the online route this year with blog and site nominations. Remember BET had those online trophies where people had to vote for the winners of the best blogs and more. There was controversy revolving around Mediatakeout.com's win at the BET Awards.

First the site rightfully won because Fred got the most votes BUT, it's not a BLOG! Fred does not blog like us. He just lists links to pictures and stories every other blog has. Blogging takes work so I blame whoever did the nominations in the first place. Click here for the VH1 honors page and look below who we voted for at HipHossip. Remember, this blog started as a Hip-Hop and R&B site.

I AM HEADING SOUTH OF THE BORDER TO COVER THE VH1 HIP-HOP HONORS.

The VH1 Hip-Hop Honors are here. VH1 says......
"Roll through hip hop’s old school and you quickly get goosebumps: the array of innovative artists that helped establish the music is daunting. Our annual salute to the masters who gave rap its early achievements has become a great tradition. This year, VH1’s Hip Hop Honors is saluting five wildly creative acts, Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Naughty By Nature, Slick Rick, and Too $hort. Each brought a wealth of ideas to the table, guiding the music to the next level."

Our pals at VH1 have sent my media credentials paperwork and I'm working on workin it. I am already on the media VIP list for the Sony BMG/XXL party so I hope to see my pal Whitney Houston at that one and 300 more tastemakers Tafia tells me. Whitney honey, it's been a long time gurl? 2005 at Bobbi Christina's birthday party in ATL. To my darlin readers, I am an A lister these days. Fock the rest! BTW, Whitney reads this blog daily!!! Thanks Brandy!

Thanks for the invite by Tafia Allah-Pringle, CEO of the top rated TLA PR Agency.

Shout Out to Crystal Puccio of VHI!

I wanna thank Crystal Puccio of MTV networks in NYC for that surprise e-mail I got yesterday from her. Out of the blue, they said they liked my hip-hop gossip blog "Hiphossip" and that they were adding it to their blogroll. Now isn't that special?

You know we don't get VH1 on cable in Canada because of some greedy wicked monopoly. Let's not mention names!

VH1 is an American digital television channel that was created in January 1985 by Warner-Amex Satellite Entertainment, at the time a division of Warner Communications and owners of MTV. VH1 and sister channel MTV are currently part of the MTV Networks division of Viacom. It has also historically played more adult R&B than its sister channel, and has rarely played any rap or hip-hop videos. Also frequently featured in the network's early years were "videos" for Motown 1960s oldies consisting of newsreel and concert footage.
