Already facing two years in prison for tax evasion charges, Beanie Sigel (born Dwight Grant) got some more bad news on Wednesday when he was sentenced to up to two years for a drug possession charge.
According to the Daily Times, Sigel pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a misdemeanor charge of illegally possessing Percocet, which landed him a county prison sentence of six-to-23 months. Sigel, 39, has been in prison since August, following a traffic stop in which police found him in possession of prescription drugs. Two weeks before he was slated to being a two-year prison run on tax evasion charges, Sigel was arrested on August 29 after police observed the tan Ford Fusion he was riding in following another vehicle too closely and swerving out of its lane.
While Sigel was not driving, a search of the car turned up several prescription bottles and a small amount of pot on the driver. When officers searched the rapper, who was asleep when the car was pulled over, they found nearly $4,600 in cash, a bottle of codeine syrup with the label scratched off and several unidentified prescription pills wrapped in plastic bag inside a cigarette pack. (Sigel claimed he won the cash at a casino.)
Police later found a loaded .38 caliber handgun in the car and since both men are convicted felons who are prohibited from possessing firearms, they were each arraigned on charges of drug possession, possession with intent to deliver, persons not to possess firearms and firearms not to be carried without a license and conspiracy. Sigel had previously spent time in prison on a federal firearms charge. Read the rest.
MY FRIEND TIP IS OUT OF PRISON! Atlanta-based rapper T.I. was released Wednesday one month early from a federal prison in Arkansas where he was serving time for a probation violation, and he already has a new book deal and TV reality show waiting for him.The artist, whose real name is Clifford Harris, was released Wednesday morning from the Forrest City low-security prison, saidBureau of Prisons spokesman Chris Burke. His attorney said T.I. is headed to a halfway house in Georgia to serve out the rest of his sentence.
Flock of cameras will follow T.I. regardless of where he goes next. VH1 said Wednesday that the network will film T.I.'s journey home from jail and debut the show in December. MTV aired a similar reality show on the rapper in 2009 called T.I.'s Road to Redemption: 45 Days to Go, which chronicled his attempts to help others avoid his mistakes. T.I. has also finalized a book deal. A representative from HarperCollins told the media that T.I. has written a book called Power & Beauty that's set to be released in October.
The novel, which was co-written with David Ritz, is a fictional tale about two childhood friends torn apart by dangerous dealings on the streets of Atlanta.
He tweeted earlier today..

T.I REWARDS MEDIA BLOGGERS WITH CLOTHING LINE TO SHOW APPRECIATION OF THEIR SUPPORT!
And we all support him, Below is T.I's letter to we the blogging media that supports him all the time.
Hello everyone, On behalf of the Salute the King Campaign I wanted to thank you all for helping us spread the "viral" word on this. To show appreciation we would like to send you samples of our AKOO Clothing. Please reply to this email with a Men's top and bottom size. As well as your shipping address. And we will send you free AKOO promotional items. If you have not already done so, please email us the link in which the Salute the King story was posted in. Once again, thank you for your help. Countdown begins for my release this September!
Well, I will send my request for a small man aka KJ. KJ is about the same size as Clifford now. He's a tall 10 year old. We thank you very much for this gift. T.I that I have known in my days in Bankhead has been a humble person who has made some mistakes like most of us. However I rate him as one of the BEST father's I ever met. The last time he met us in Canada was 2007 when his album dropped and little did we now we may not see him for a long time.
T.I will survive. The system can be cruel in the United States, when people like Lindsay Lohan can go to rehab and T.I go to jail for an addiction issue. This is my person opinion and nobody else's. My interview with Tiny the first time was so heartbreaking. She has been a great mother to all those kids.
Let us continue to support the KING. It is a MUST! Special shout out to T.I's mom who has help keep those kids together. They need their dad home. --Mskemi
Ja Rule began a two-year prison sentence Wednesday on gun charges, becoming the latest in a long line of rappers to get in trouble for firearms possession. Ja Rule, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, pleaded guilty in December to attempted criminal possession of an unregistered, .40 caliber handgun and was sentenced to two years behind bars and 18 months of supervised release. The rapper was caught with the pistol in his sports car after a 2007 concert in Manhattan.
He had been performing alongside rapper Lil Wayne, who was also charged with gun possession in a separate arrest and spent much of 2010 in prison."Carrying an illegal gun in New York City puts the safety of all New Yorkers at risk," said District Attorney Cyrus Vance."Whether you are a Grammy-nominated musician or a teenager carrying a gun for a friend, justice is blind. This sentence should put all illegal gun owners in New York on notice."A more severe punishment could have been expected had Ja Rule gone to trial and been convicted.
Grammy Award winner T.I.’s arrest in Los Angeles for drug possession has bewildered former Atlanta Mayor Andy Young, who counseled the performer on his “road to redemption” after the rapper pleaded guilty to federal drug charges. The news of the arrest hurts his heart, said Young, who officiated T.I’s South Beach wedding in July.“He not only has a successful marriage going for him and some wonderful children but his new movie is a big hit,” Young told the AJC.T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., and his new wife, Tameka Cottle, were arrested Wednesday night in West Hollywood when T.I. made an illegal U-turn.
A Los Angeles deputy said he smelled marijuana coming from inside his luxury Maybach automobile. According to the entertainment Web site TMZ , the deputy then found drugs, reported to be in the same class as methamphetamine and ecstasy.T.I.'s publicist declined to comment.
“There’s another culture in L.A. that I don’t understand,” Young said. “Most people in Los Angeles would wonder why he was stopped … I don’t know why they should have been stopped ... When a black man is stopped and not speeding … you call that driving while black.”Young noted a bit of symmetry between T.I.'s life and the role he plays in his just-released movie, "Takers."“I didn’t particularly like him doing the movie,” Young said, explaining that the message was wrong. “Part of my hope was he would have a cultural shift as well as a personal shift."
In the movie, which the 29-year-old produced, T.I. plays a career criminal and gang member named "Ghost" who has just been released from prison. "Ghost" almost immediately starts planning a bank heist that is bigger than the one that previously sent "Ghost" to prison.
Ja Rule must appear in court in August, where he will stand trial for a firearm violation in New York.
The rapper was arrested in July of 2007 after a performance at the Beacon Theater.
Police stopped his $250,000 Maybach Benz and found a loaded .40 caliber handgun in the car with the serial number scratched off.
Ja Rule, 34, has pleaded not guilty to criminal possession of a weapon.
Yesterday, Ja Rule suffered a loss in court with Manhattan State Supreme Court Justice Richard Carruthers ruled against his bid to challenge the DNA testing procedure of the weapon.
His lawyer Stacy Richman said she will appeal the ruling.
Richman also represented Lil Wayne, who was arrested by the NYPD on the same night in question, in a separate incident.
Lil Wayne also challenged the DNA procedure used to test the .40 caliber handgun also found in his car, but eventually pled guilty to attempted possession of a weapon.
Lil Wayne is currently serving an eight month sentence on Rikers Island.
Ja Rule will stand trial on the gun charge on August 18th. If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison.
Incarcerated rapper X-RAIDED has been hospitalised in California after he was stabbed seven times by a gang of fellow inmates, according to reports. The hip-hop star - real name Anerae Brown - is serving a 31-year sentence for his part in a deadly shooting in 1992 which left one woman dead, but he has managed to release 13 albums since he was jailed. The rapper is said to have been targeted by three men armed with crude home-made weapons at Pleasant Valley State Prison in California. The trio allegedly stabbed him seven times after Brown refused to produce an album for them, according to Allhiphop.com.
A source tells the website, "They wanted him to produce and release their rap album. We're talking about inmates serving life without the possibility of parole. (They wanted) to be rap stars, and (felt) so rejected to the point of wanting to kill him in an attempt to gain some fame. It's absurd." The rapper was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno , California. His condition is currently unknown, while the men allegedly involved in the attack have reportedly been charged with attempted murder.
Rapper T.I is talking to Larry King on CNN right now that some of the things he is talking about is shocking. By the time I post this it will be Friday the 14th. I never knew TIP was an "A" student at no time when I saw him arrested so much in Cobb County Georgia in the early 2000's. TIP talked about his community services to the kids that the courts ordered. Was the sentence fair? He answered the question to a tweet saying "do you want me to spend more time in jail?"
In the beginning he heard Larry describe all the machine guns he was caught with. TIP talked about all the best part of his life. His fiance TINY and 5 children and Tiny's daughter Monique as his own. Another viewer asked why black rappers shoot each other and not country music singers and he explained that with respect to the urban, ghetto atmosphere, single family homes and the rest of the BS.
The one caller cracked us up when he said the "lovely Toya" when she meant to say TINY his fiance. T.I said "Toya's not mine." It was so funny. In the whole interview however, T.I says that he was targeted at that club because jealous patrons couldn't get into the VIP section where he was. It seems absurd but believe me I believe TIP. People can be so wicked and in the end they fired guns into their car and ended up KILLING Philant Johnson. Boy, I miss Philant! That was TIP's Personal Assistant and best friend.
T.I then took us to a juvenile detention center. AWESOME! We need to BEG the Canadian government to bring T.I to Toronto. OMG, this is my next mission at HipHossip. I need T.I to talk to our kids in Toronto on an anti-gangster tour of some kind.
The show was overall awesome. TI said this was the most happiest time of his life in a long time. Feels good not to have to depend on guns all the time. Only one downside about the whole show, he refused to "rap" at the end of the show for Larry. Must be shy...Watch below. Thanks to my partner "Q" at WSHH.
"I'm no good behind the cell. Need to help the kids out there."....T.I explaining why he did not need to be in jail any longer
"I see you did your research."......T.I responding to Larry's description of all the machine guns he was caught with.
"My Producer DJ Toomp challenged me 13 years ago to stop selling drugs"....T.I telling Larry King how various people influenced him to use his music talent.
"The death of a hip-hop star is the least investigated".....T.I describing how there has never been an arrest of conviction in the murders of Biggie, TuPac and Jam Master Jay
"Do I consider myself a gangster? I'm retired now!"....T.I talking to a group of juveniles in a detention center
"I'm proud of her for being the mother of my children and love of my life."....T.I on TINY
"There's no chance of that!"....T.I asked by Larry King if he has a fear of going back to bad things.
A booking agent allegedly fired by incarcerated rapper GUCCI MANE insists he has not received "any type of correspondence" to confirm the report. Mane announced from prison that he had sacked his management team and promoters after becoming embroiled in a lawsuit stemming from his failure to perform at two gigs because of his parole restrictions. In the lawsuit filed last week, it was claimed Mane - real name Radric Davis - and two associates accepted cash deposits to perform concerts in full knowledge of the restrictions, which prevented the star from leaving his home in Georgia.
Mane told fans on Tuesday he had parted ways with management company, Mizay Entertainment, and booking agency, Hitt Afta Hitt Enterpri ses, saying, "I'm taking control of all of my business properties and kee ping the focus on my career, my music and my artists." But the owner of Hitt Afta Hitt Enterprises, Johnnie Cabbell, insists he has not been told of any plans for Mane to sever ties with his company. He tells AllHipHop.com, "While it is being widely reported that my book ing agency Hitt Afta Hitt is no longer working with Gucci Mane, I have yet to receive any type of correspondence from Gucci, the label or anyone e lse that supports that. "I have known and worked with Gucci for over a decade.
I have seen his career grow from being a local phenomenon into a household name and I feel like I helped play a minor role in his success." Mane is currently serving a 12-month prison term in Georgia after viola ting probation for a 2005 assault conviction. He is slated for early release next week. (12May10).
T.I.'s welcome-home party was nothing short of epic - the infamous rapper was feted by the likes of Jamie Foxx, Usher and Diddy at L.A. hot spot Guys and Dolls on Sunday night, and the evening turned into a toast to the singer's future."The past is the past - what we have is the future, and your future is bright, my friend," Foxx said at the event, alluding to the 10 months T.I. spent in jail for illegal weapons possession.
Others on hand to welcome T.I. back on the scene included Lil' Kim, rapper Rick Ross and Amber Rose, who arrived sans Kanye West and almost sans clothing - she wore nothing but a nude leotard. But it wasn't until Foxx and T.I. performed their new track, "Winner," that the man of the hour finally addressed the crowd, calling life behind bars a "humbling experience.""I'm so happy to be with all of you tonight," he said. "And I cannot thank you enough for being here."
"Everyone gave him a standing ovation," says one partygoer. "It was a very supportive environment." Not just for T.I.: The rapper took some of the spotlight off himself when he asked the room to acknowledge another wayward star."There are still people in the hip-hop community that need our support," he said. "So I ask everybody to please raise your glasses for Lil Wayne."T.I. is certainly familiar with Wayne's plight: Weezy is currently serving a year in the big house for - wait for it - illegal weapons possession.
But the mention of his penned-up pal didn't sour T.I.'s mood for long. He jumped back up on stage later in the night to perform "Hello Good Morning" with Diddy, and then his solo "I'm Back."
Rapper DMX has been arrested in Arizona, according to a new report. The star was taken into custody after allegedly violating the terms of his probation by using illegal drugs - and now his lawyer has issued a public plea for help to TV drug counsellor Dr. Drew Pinsky. DMX's attorney Gary Jenkins tells TMZ.com, "He's been battling addictio n for some time and he's in need of treatment. We're hoping that maybe Dr. Drew might be able to help him.
He's a talented man. We're praying for him." DMX spent time in jail last year (09) on charges of drug possession, an imal cruelty and theft, stemming from various arrests in 2008. After his release last May (09) he was sentenced to 18 months probation for verbally threatening a guard during his stint in prison.
WTF? Trying to hold on to his celebrity? Dr Pinsky?
Lil Wayne has begun his one-year prison sentence today (March 8) for gun crimes.
Watch video footage of the rapper being led into Manhattan Supreme Court - where he was mobbed by hundreds of fans and photographers - by clicking below.
Originally due to start his sentence last month, Wayne's incarceration was postponed initially so he could have emergency dental surgery, then delayed because of a courthouse fire.
The rapper, real name Dwayne Carter, is serving the jail-term stemming from an incident in 2007 in New York, where police officers found a handgun on his tourbus.
Lil Wayne said little in the courtroom, reports the New York Post. Asked by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Charles Solomon if he wanted to speak, the rapper simply shook his head and said "No". He has now been taken to New York's main jail complex, Rikers Island, where he will serve his year-long sentence (though he could be let out after eight months for good behaviour).
The rapper's lawyer Stacey Richman said he plans to continue making music in jail.
Nobody has died but my heart goes out to the lovely Toya, Reginae and all his sons. The message is clear, lets do it for the kids, leave the guns alone!
Music producer Demetrius Lee Stewart, known as Shawty Redd, is being held in a suburban Atlanta jail on a murder charge.
Henry County Police Capt. Jason Bolton says Stewart was arrested Friday morning.
Stewart is accused of shooting 35-year-old Damon A. Martin of Detroit in an argument at Stewart's home in Hampton, about 30 miles southeast of Atlanta.
The 28-year-old Stewart is charged with murder and was being held without bond in the Henry County jail Saturday. His first court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 12. Police didn't know whether Stewart has a lawyer.
Stewart has worked with Young Jeezy, Snoop Dogg and other major artists.
Shocking to say the least. Wonder what he did with the body? How sad! However, this is North America where you are innocent until proven guilty. Below is his first court appearance. Very bad audio.
According to a well-placed source, rapper T.I., who is serving a 12 month and a day bid on gun possession charges, will be released to an Atlanta halfway house to serve out the remainder of his sentence after the New Year.
This is good news to the legions of fans of the wordsmith widely considered the best rapper of his generation.
T.I. is expected to be released to the halfway house before his scheduled May 26 release date — maybe in February or March 2010. Unlike the strict prison rules that T.I. must now adhere to, the halfway house rules will be more relaxed.
T.I. will most likely be allowed to leave the halfway house during the day to work at his Grand Hustle offices or even to marry his sweetheart Tameka “Tiny” Cottle!
Meanwhile, T.I.’s clothing line AKOO is doing big business. The Fall/Winter Collection is selling out in major retail outlets. The Holiday ‘09 Collection include staples such as Pea and Sport Coats in herringbone and hounds tooth, hooded cardigans which play on the idea of the traditional grandfather sweater, custom denim, chucky wool sweaters and classic rugby shirts and jackets for that well-dressed man in your life.
The DNA test is over! Lil Wayne will be forced to plead out to a jail term in New York City on Thursday, according to sources with AllHipHop.
The rapper is expected to accept an 8-month bid in jail over his alleged involvement with a loaded .40-caliber pistol gun found on his tour bus in 2007 while in New York.
The 27-year-old now faces 15 years in jail for each count of criminal weapons possession and criminal possession of a loaded weapon.
“Wayne is going to plead guilty,” a source close to the case AllHipHop, stressing that this was definitely going to happen. The rapper pleaded not guilty at press time and has yet to make any such public declaration. “The date is coming up and he’s going to do it tomorrow.” Now that's today!
Wayne is rumored to be willing to accept the deal to avoid a long term in jail over the gun. The same source said the jail time will begin in February of 2010 under the terms of the deal. “If he doesn’t plead, he goes to jail for a long time,” the source said.
I really heard the plea deal is just 8 months from another reliable source!! Another reason to PUT THE GUNS DOWN! PLEASE!
Though it probably spread a bit of joy among T.I.'s fans, recent reports that the rapper will only serve two months of his one year and a day prison sentence are inaccurate.
When The Associated Press reported on Sunday that T.I. — due to report to the Forrest City low-security federal prison in Little Rock, Arkansas, on May 26 — had been given credit for 305 days of home detention, "so his stay at Forrest City prison will likely be only two months," the news agency may have misread the sentencing report. The story has since spread on the Internet, but according to Charysse Alexander, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia, it is not accurate.
According to Alexander, the rapper was indeed given credit for the 305 days of home confinement he served while awaiting trial in the case, but that has nothing to do with his prison sentence.
After pleading guilty to two charges of illegally possessing firearms and of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm in March in connection with his attempt in October 2007 to buy unlicensed machine guns and silencers, T.I. (real name: Clifford Harris Jr.) was ordered to serve one year and one day in federal prison. Alexander explained that, at best, according to federal sentencing guidelines, anyone who serves more than one year in prison is eligible for a 15 percent "good time" credit, which in Tip's case could shave almost 55 days off his sentence.
The confusion may have stemmed from mixing the credit for home confinement with the prison sentence, which are separate terms, Alexander said. Once T.I. completes the prison term, he will still have to serve out the remainder of his home confinement, she said, which will amount to about two months.
While HipHossip was unable to reach officials at Forrest City for comment by press time, the AP quoted that facility's spokesperson as saying that T.I. will join 1,500 other inmates at the low-security prison and likely be treated like any other prisoner. I cannot tell you at this time how long he will be locked up.
The NERVE of using a 13 year old boy to gun down a 15 year old all because he burned your mixtapes and sold them on the streets or should I say streetz! Carlos Thompson, the "enforcer" in Cam'ron's crime ridden DIPSET was caught last Friday the 15th May 2009. Wonder what Juelz Santana, Jim Jones and 50 had to say about that? Santana, LOL! I wanna hear from especially YOU! Damn! Carlos? The other one King Tut was no king as he shot himself as police was closing in on him! This is like writing about the fockn mob! Stop this gangsta shyt y'all. See the whole story here on my anti-crime, anti-Cam'ron website.
Is it hard to tell that if you don't support crime, you become a better person in society? The Associated Press reports that when Clifford "T.I." Harris reports to the Forrest City low-security prison on May 26, the award-winning rapper, actor and businessman will serve what will amount to a two-month stint. Initial reports stated the "King of the South" would serve 366 days in prison for multiple weapons charges. The reduced sentence was due to a special deal which called for T.I. to remain on home confinement and complete a series of community service programs, including an MTV series.
Fellow artists such as 50 Cent and Mysonne leveled allegations of snitching and secret deals with prosecutors which T.I. vehemently denied. Officials say T.I. will receive no preferential treatment, and he will face three years probation as well as a $100,000 fine upon his release.
"Unless there are custody or security concerns, all incoming inmates are placed in general population," said R.D. Weeks, a spokesman for the prison. If T.I. would have been convicted on all of the weapons charges he was initially charged with, he would have faced a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison as well as $250,000 for each charge in his three-count indictment from 2007.
That's TIP and I above outside a club in ATL 2005. So that goes to show the haters. Stay outta trouble, Snitch or use Crime Stoppers. When T.I gets out of jail, he would be making more gazillions of $ that he won't need to be in that crazy drug and crime life anymore. Another black man who turned his life around, so why can't you instead of hating on me on All hip-Hop? TIP has not been to Canada in so long. We'll be glad to open the gates! I'm calling Grand Hustle to get our own Crime Stoppers PSA
