#BREAKING Sir Richard Branson flying "immediately" to join his space travel team in Mojave desert @VirginGalactic

Sir Richard Branson flying "immediately" to join his space travel team in Mojave desert after test flight fatality. He has just tweeted finally in the last  minutes and I'm sure he is so devastated. Prayers for Virgin Atlantic everyone!--KOO

#HNNTravel Footage emerges of @VirginGalactic SpaceShipTwo crash site

One pilot was killed and another seriously injured when Virgin Galactic's prototype commercial spaceship crashed in the desert on Friday.

The accident left debris from the test plane scattered across the desert near Mojave.

Virgin Galactic said its SpaceShipTwo craft had "experienced an in-flight anomaly".

The company later added: "Virgin Galactic's partner Scaled Composites conducted a powered test flight of SpaceShipTwo earlier today. During the test, the vehicle suffered a serious anomaly resulting in the loss of SpaceShipTwo. WK2 landed safely."

No date has yet been set for the first commercial flight but hundreds of would-be space tourists have made down payments for the chance to fly.

Watch the video here and below are the tweets as it unfolded.

Stephen Clark at SpaceFlight  Today reports in detail>>>Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo rocket plane crashed during a powered test flight over California’s Mojave Desert on Friday, leaving one pilot dead and another seriously injured, according to news reports.

“Virgin Galactic’s partner Scaled Composites conducted a powered test flight of SpaceShipTwo earlier today, the company said in a statement. “During the test, the vehicle suffered a serious anomaly resulting in the loss of the vehicle. The WhiteKnightTwo carrier aircraft landed safely. Our first concern in the status of the pilots, which is unknown at this time. We will work closely with relevant authorities to determine the cause of this accident and provide updates as soon as we are able to do so.”

Mashable's Brin Ries reporting that Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo had taken off at 12:19 p.m. ET from Mojave, CA for what the company was calling a "Halloween treat."

But less than an hour later, the company tweeted that something had gone wrong. Reports say there were two pilots on board.

Initial police reports, according to NASA watch, say that one of two pilots has been located with injuries "with moderate neck and back injuries" and that there is "quite a bit of wreckage."

Stay tuned for this developing story!!

#HNNHealth #HNNEducation #Ebola Quarantine Lawsuit of #Nigerian schoolkid in #Connecticut USA MAY be COSTLY!

As the leading Ebola reporter in Africa, I can tell you that our American friends got this one wrong. These quarantine lawsuits are going to be costly. Like Nigeria's index patient Patrick Sawyer's estranged wife Decontee Kofa says in this poster Ignorance is equal to fear, silence causes death and lets fight Ebola together.

That kid Ikeoluwa Opayemi is stigmatized for life. Instead of parents listening to my podcasts, they are telling their school systems to isolate a kid from a NON EBOLA COUNTRY when theirs is. SMH. Listen to my tips on EDUCATING YOUR KIDS on Ebola below especially if you have a child in this kid's class. Ikeoluwa returns to school Monday November 3rd after  weeks.

#HNNHealth #Nigeria RIPS Countries DISCRIMINATING against Nigerians for #Ebola #HNNImpact

Aminu Bashir Wali
Minister Aminu Wali
The bigger picture is that our country was declared Ebola FREE. Can you imagine if we were still in the epidemic?  The latest is a kid in Connecticut, USA and her father is suing the school. The Opayemi kid was stigmatized and forced into quarantine when that nurse Kaci Hicox was the one that should be isolating herself from the community.

Now comes word that the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali, on Friday protested the continued discrimination and profiling of Nigerians by some countries over the outbreak of the Ebola disease in West Africa.

At an interactive session with members of the diplomatic corps, Mr. Wali named 22 countries that had targeted and discriminated against Nigerians, since the index case of Ebola in Nigeria.

He said it was regrettable that discrimination against Nigerians persisted, in spite of the World Health Organisation, WHO, declaration that Nigeria was Ebola-free.

He said it was regrettable that some countries had chosen to flout WHO rules and protocols on preventing the spread of the virus, through deliberate policies of stigmatisation and discrimination.

He said the foreign ministry has received unpleasant reports that Nigerians have been targeted and discriminated in Bahrain, Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon.

Other countries discriminating against Nigerians are Cuba, Gabon, China, Egypt, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Zambia.

Also in the list are Mauritania, Sao Tome and Principe, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Namibia, Seychelles and South Sudan.

The minister expressed dismay that even top government officials on working visits abroad had suffered discriminatory practices by the countries.

He noted that it was “intriguing’’ that it took time for the international community to acknowledge the valiant and effective measures taken by Nigeria to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

“It is therefore, my hope that this briefing will assist in expunging any negative notion about the Ebola Virus in Nigeria,’’ he said.

Mr. Wali called on the international community to increase assistance to the countries afflicted with the deadly virus.

He pledged that Nigeria would continue to assist neighbouring countries and share its experience on the successful control of the virus with the rest of the world.

A Nigerian, Suleiman Mohammed, who is the Honorary Consul to Mongolia, recounted how he was detained for six hours in Seoul after alighting from his flight.

He said he was detained for several hours by the immigration authorities in South Korea alongside with Nigeria’s ambassador to South Korea, Amb. Desmond Akawor.

Mr. Mohammed said the incident happened on September 9.

He added that he was subjected to the same treatment when he was transiting through South Korea even after he had shown no symptoms of the virus.

In his remarks, the High Commissioner of Trinidad and Tobago partly blamed the discrimination against travellers from West Africa on the international media and ignorance.

“From Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean, there is mass hysteria and ignorance on this issue (Ebola).

“The international media is constantly reporting that there is Ebola in West Africa and some people think West Africa is a country and not a region and in the Caribbean that understanding is not clear.’’

He cited an incident where union workers at a port in Trinidad and Tobago refused to board an oil-tanker that berthed in his country from Gabon.

He said there was hysteria that the vessel that arrived from West Africa may have been exposed to Ebola.

Meanwhile, South Sudan has refused entry to Nigerian Foreign Service officers deployed to the country because of Ebola.

In his contribution, the South Sudan Ambassador to Nigeria, Parmena Mangar Riak, claimed that after the WHO certification on Oct. 20, some Nigerians received their visas to travel to the country last week.

Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Cameroon Ambassador to Nigeria, Salaheddine Abbas-Ibrahima, claimed that many countries had lifted restrictions on travel from people from Nigeria after the WHO certification.

He assured the minister that “in a matter of days” there would be total lifting of the ban on restrictions of travel by Nigerians by the remaining countries.

The ambassador who did not name the countries that had relaxed the ban said that Cameroon would take advantage of the Ebola information centre, established by the Federal government.

He said the centre would serve as a source of information for countries to plan their national response to the deadly virus.

#HNNHealth Read the WEEKLY Report @CDCGov @CDCHealth Report on #Ebola around the globe. Thanks @DrFriedenCDC

The CDC now puts a Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) out weekly on the Ebola outbreak globally. This week ended like this.

Update: Ebola Virus Disease Outbreak — West Africa, October 2014
WeeklyOctober 31, 2014 / 63(43);978-981

On October 28, 2014, this report was posted as an MMWR Early Release on the MMWR website (http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr).

Incident Management System Ebola Epidemiology Team, CDC; Guinea Interministerial Committee for Response Against the Ebola Virus; CDC Guinea Response Team; Liberia Ministry of Health and Social Welfare; CDC Liberia Response Team; Sierra Leone Ministry of Health and Sanitation; CDC Sierra Leone Response Team; Viral Special Pathogens Branch, National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, CDC

CDC is assisting ministries of health and working with other organizations to control and end the ongoing outbreak of Ebola virus disease (Ebola) in West Africa (1). The updated data in this report were compiled from situation reports from the Guinea Interministerial Committee for Response Against the Ebola Virus and the World Health Organization, the Liberia Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, and the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health and Sanitation. Total case counts include all suspected, probable, and confirmed cases as defined by each country. These data reflect reported cases, which make up an unknown proportion of all actual cases and reporting delays that vary from country to country.

According to the latest World Health Organization update as of October 22, 2014 (2), a total of 9,911 Ebola cases have been reported as of October 19 from three highly affected West African countries (Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone) (Figure 1). The highest reported case counts were from Liberia (4,665 cases), followed by Sierra Leone (3,706) and Guinea (1,540).

The geographic distribution of the number of Ebola cases reported during September 28–October 18 changed from the distribution of cases reported during August 31–September 23 (3), when counts were highest in the areas where Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea meet. Counts of Ebola cases reported during September 28–October 18 were highest in the area around Monrovia and in the district of Bong, Liberia; the Freetown area and the northwest districts of Sierra Leone; and the district of Macenta, Guinea (Figure 2).

The map of the cumulative incidence of Ebola, as of October 18, indicates that the highest incidence rate (>100 cases per 100,000 population) was reported by two districts in Guinea (Guéckédou and Macenta), five districts in Liberia (Bomi, Bong, Lofa, Margibi, and Montserrado), and four districts in Sierra Leone (Bombali, Kailahun, Kenema, and Port Loko) (Figure 3).

The latest updates on the 2014 Ebola outbreak in West Africa, including case counts, are available at http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/outbreaks/guinea/index.html. The most up-to-date clinical guidelines on the 2014 Ebola outbreak in West Africa are available at http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/hcp/index.html.

#BREAKING #BurkinaFaso's END with Blaise here? The Revolution is here!!

From BBC Africa: There have been widespread calls for President Compaore of Burkina Faso not to change the constitution to seek a further term in office.

The White House said democratic institutions are strengthened when established rules are consistently adhered to. The former colonial power, France, called for restraint.

The African Union urged Burkina Faso to respect the wishes of its people.

On Wednesday the European Union also called on the government in Ouagadougou to scrap the proposed legislation, warning it could jeopardise stability and democratic progress.

Looks like it may be too late now. Parliament burned down, TV station takeover and rioting all over town. Blaise may be on the run to France, who knows?

#HNNHealth Panic at #Nigerian airport as #EbolaFree Survivor arrives from #SierraLeone

Panic Wednesday at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos after a Nigerian, who survived Ebola Virus Disease in Sierra Leone arrived aboard Royal Air Maroc.
The man, whose identity was given as Mr. Theophilus Onnakhinon, was flown from Sierra Leone by the airline while his younger brother, Mr. Chinedu Eroka was said to have absconded from the Sierra Leonean authorities.

Sources told newsmen that Onnakhinon had already been cured of the dreaded disease and had been certified fit by the health authorities of that country few weeks back.

The source who would not want his name in print claimed that Onnakhinon was assisted into the country by the Nigeria’s consular officer, Mrs. T. Mohammed in order to avoid stigmatization by the Nigerian health officials and other authorities at the airport.

He was immediately handed over to Port Health officials at the Nigerian airport so as to be quarantined and tested by authorities who told #HNNHealth that they wanted to make sure Sierra Leonian authorities had done their job.

That to me is proper procedure and not violating anyone's right. Meanwhile Kaci Hicox the US nurse is still battling her country's authorities with her quarantine war. Better safe than sorry.

#HNNSocialMedia Facebook population now 1.3Billion!

If Facebook were a country, its population would rival the single most populous country on Earth. Glad I'm the FIRST Nigerian on it in 2004 after Andy McCollum recruited me as a beta tester #History

That’s one eye-popping takeaway from Facebook’s Q3 earnings reportTuesday, in which the site announced that its monthly active users cleared 1.35 billion — roughly equal the population of China, and 9 percent larger than that of India.

By these numbers, nearly 20 percent of the world’s population logs into Facebook once a month. And if we just look at the world’s Internet users, roughly half of them — every other person with Internet on the planet — use the site actively.

#HNNHealth GOOD NEWS: #Ebola appears to be slowing in #Liberia says @WHO

Liberia may be seeing a decline in the spread of Ebola, with falls in the number of burials and new admissions as well as a plateau in laboratory-confirmed cases, the World Health Organization said on Wednesday.

"Do we feel confident that the response is now getting an upper hand on the virus? Yes, we are seeing slowing rate of new cases, very definitely," WHO Assistant Director General Bruce Aylward told a news conference.

"We need to be careful here. This thing hasn't dropped off the cliff like that. We're seeing a reversal of that rapid rate of increase to the point that there seems to be a decline right now."

He said there had been 13,703 cases in eight countries and the reported death toll, to be published later on Wednesday, was likely to be over 5,000. A jump of more than 3,000 in the number of cases since Saturday was largely due to the data being updated with old cases rather than new cases, he said.

Aylward said he would be "terrified" if wrong conclusions were read into his statement and Ebola was thought to be under control. "It's like saying your pet tiger is under control."

But he said that if current trends continued, the worst hit countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone should be able to "comfortably" meet a target to scale up Ebola-containment measures by Dec. 1.

Last week Mali became the sixth West African country to report a case of the disease, which has an incubation period of two to 21 days. The patient, a two-year-old girl, died after traveling by bus from Guinea with her grandmother, with at least one stopover, in the capital Bamako.

Aylward said the government of Mali was putting in a "Herculean" effort to track people who had contact with the girl, with 84 people being monitored so far. No new suspected Ebola cases had yet been reported, he added.

The WHO has been rushing to help organize bed spaces to take care of Ebola patients in treatment centers, but there were now around 100 beds empty in Liberia, he said.

"The single biggest mistake anybody could make right now is to think do we really need all those beds?"

In neighboring Sierra Leone, the second worst hit country, the number of cases was continuing to increase in some areas, including the capital Freetown, he said.

"We're still seeing this thing burning quite hot in parts of Sierra Leone right now," Aylward said.

NATO CALL

Separately, a group of 40 senior European political, diplomatic and military figures called on Wednesday for the NATO military alliance to deploy staff, ships and aircraft to help fight Ebola in West Africa.

Signatories including two former NATO secretary-generals and three ex-prime ministers said in two open letters that the WHO and United Nations should ask for help from NATO, whose "unique capabilities ... could make a difference in this situation."

The letters to NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and WHO Director-General Margaret Chan were drafted by the European Leadership Network think tank in London.

#HNNHealth US Ambassador Power Ends her Tour of #Ebola stricken West Africa

Media preview

US ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power has ended her tour to West Africa with a message that the World has the capability to end the outbreak of Ebola, but needs to act faster. She addressed the press at the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response in Accra, Ghana.

After visiting the three countries hit hardest by the virus - Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia - she toured the UN agency set up in Accra to co-ordinate the response.

Ms Power said she was impressed by the what the region's leaders have done to fight the outbreak, but also challenged countries that are yet to their honour pledges of support to step up.

The UN has received commitments for less than half of the resources it says are needed to bring the disease under control. The plan is to have all infected people treated and all bodies buried safely by the end of the year. From here, Ambassador Power is scheduled to travel to Brussels for the final leg of her trip.

We need to be facing how to stop an outbreak, instead we are focusing on the wrong things, everyone's suing over quarantines, Liberians being stigmatized and Africans unnecessarily bullied. Countries like Australia not getting involved and shutting its doors on the 3 countries until GOD FORBID an Australian of West African descent travels back home for Christmas and returns January vomiting blood and develops a high fever. Everyone must get involved now!

#HNNImpact #CATCALLS Video of woman walking streets with hidden camera is a NORMAL curse in #Nigeria

(Picture: YouTube)

An online video of a young woman being harassed by men while walking around Manhattan has been described as "shocking". A women's rights group in the United States is using the video, which racked up more than 1.1 million views in one day, to highlight the sort of harassment women experience every day.

This is not new, in Nigeria they will actually attack her and strip her naked if she dressed sleazier. I am hearing that when the video was posted online by the group, she got several rape threats.

Shoshana Roberts, who has a black belt in Taekwondo, volunteered for the Hollaback social experiment to highlight street harassment around the world.

The video, posted on YouTube today, shows the actress, who lives in New York, being verbally harassed as she walks around in silence wearing jeans, trainers and a crew-neck T-shirt.

She walks through a variety of different neighbourhoods and receives shout-outs from strangers varying from ‘good morning’ and ‘whats up’ to people actually following her.

#HNNMedia How to be a TV News Anchor/Presenter like me.

A news presenter – also known as a newsreader, newscaster (short for "news broadcaster"), anchorman or anchorwoman, news anchor or simply an anchor – is a person who presents news during a news program on television, on the radio or on the Internet. They may also be a working journalist, assisting in the collection of news material and may, in addition, provide commentary during the programme.

News presenters most often work from a television studio or radio studio, but may also present the news from remote locations in the field related to a particular major news event. I once freelanced for weekends at CBS46 in Atlanta while doing a documentary of the station during my US days and had a stint in 2014 earlier this year with MITV Ibadan, Nigeria. However I write health news as a special medical correspondent at NTA, Nigeria's TV broadcaster but not on air.

#HNNHealth #Ebola can't come DOWN UNDER! The #Australians are not issuing visas to #Ebola Country citizens!

(Reuters) - Australia became the first developed country on Tuesday to shut its borders to citizens of the countries worst-hit by the West African Ebola outbreak, a move those states said stigmatized healthy people and would make it harder to fight the disease.

Australia's ban on visas for citizens of Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea followed decisions by the U.S. military to quarantine soldiers returning from an Ebola response mission and some U.S. states to isolate aid workers. The United Nations said such measures could discourage vital relief work, making it harder to stop the spread of the deadly virus.

"Anything that will dissuade foreign trained personnel from coming here to West Africa and joining us on the frontline to fight the fight would be very, very unfortunate," Anthony Banbury, head of the U.N. Ebola Emergency Response Mission (UNMEER), told Reuters in the Ghanaian capital Accra.

Liberia's President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf urged Australia to reconsider its travel ban.

"Anytime there's stigmatization, there's quarantine, there's exclusion of people, many of whom are just normal, then those of us who are fighting this epidemic, when we face that, we get very sad," she told a news conference.

Neighboring Sierra Leone called the Australian move draconian.

"It is discriminatory in that ... it is not (going) after Ebola but rather it is ... against the 24 million citizens of Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea," Information Minister Alpha Kanu told Reuters. "Certainly, it is not the right way to go."

The virus has killed almost 5,000 people since March, mostly in those three countries. Nine U.S. cases have prompted states such as New York and New Jersey to ignore federal advice and quarantine all health workers returning from the region.

A Texas nurse who caught Ebola in the United States while treating an infected Liberian patient left hospital on Tuesday after being declared free of the disease.

"I'm so grateful to be well, a smiling Amber Vinson, 29, told reporters at Emory University Hospital before hugging the doctors and nurses who treated her for two weeks.

The arrival of the disease in the United States has prompted fierce debate there and in other developed countries about the best measures to prevent its spread.

The World Health Organization says overly restrictive quarantines and travel bans will put people off volunteering to go to Africa, where relief workers are needed to help improve a health system to deal with the disease.

"We desperately need international health workers ... They are really the key to this response,” WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said.

World Bank chief Jim Yong Kim said the three worst hit countries needed 5,000 overseas health workers at any one time.

"Those health workers cannot work continuously: there needs to be a rotation. So we will need many thousands of health workers over the next months to a year in order to bring this epidemic under control," he said an African Union meeting in Ethiopia. "Right now, I am very much worried where we will find those health workers."

#HNNHealth Second #Dallas Nurse Amber Vinson discharged from hospital and #EbolaFree

Amber Vinson
Amber Vinson, a nurse who fueled Ebola fears by flying to Cleveland after being infected by her dying patient in Dallas, is now virus-free, and was celebrated Tuesday by her caregivers as courageous and passionate before getting out of the hospital.

Dr. Bruce Ribner, an infectious disease expert who oversaw Vinson's recovery at Emory University Hospital, said fellow medical workers "deeply admire Ms. Vinson's care and courage in caring for patients with serious communicable diseases. Nurses are on the front line 24 hours a day in treating our patients."

Ribner said doctors were "not sure" why Vinson and fellow Dallas nurse Nina Pham recovered so quickly from the virus, given its traditional high mortality rate. Some theories doctors have suggested include the young age of the two nurses, as well as the fact that they probably got a relatively low "viral load" when they were exposed due to their protective gear.

Emory University Hospital spokeswoman Holly Korschun later confirmed that Vinson received blood plasma from Ebola survivor Kent Brantley, and said Ebola survivor Nancy Writebol also donated her plasma, but it wasn't ultimately needed.

So everyone gets Dr Kent Brantley's holy blood and they are healed.  He sure is a good samaritan when needed, Brantley worked for aid group Samaritan's purse in Liberia when he contracted Ebola and was flown home to the US. he has since donated blood to a number of US victims.

#HNNTerror Canadian Journalist Mike Strobel calls Michael Zehaf-Bibeau a TERRORIST, ISLAMIC RADICAL, JIHADIST

CALL IT WHAT IT IS: The greatest tribute we can pay Cpl. Nathan Cirillo in this week of memorials is to be honest about who and what killed him, Mike Strobel says.

Not just some unkempt nutbar with a gun, not a “mentally ill” loner, not a “homeless man.”

The late, unlamented Michael Zehaf-Bibeau was a TERRORIST, an ISLAMIC RADICAL, a JIHADIST in our midst.

ﺩﻱ ﻣﻮﺳﻰ i feel u are also African. we have our problems in Africa and we accept bt there is a shona proverb (zimbabwe) which says He who is dead is now a good man.. what it means is lets forgive the dead and not speak ill of them so that they travel well in the other world they are now. We hurt each other when we are alive bt once death rules its the hand of God at work...so to Sata we say Rest İp Peace..whatever we wronged each other whilst n this earth we forgive . let Gods justice and mercy be upon you. we pray Amen

Hillary Tochi Uche In the case of Mugabe, its wrong beacuse it's no longer democracy, he has been in power for over 20 years. Thats the mindset that should be kicked out of Africa. It's not good. Variety is the spice of life.
