CANADIAN ARTISTS TO KNOW: TnT - "Missing You" produced by Vokab

TNT is a Toronto rap group from Regents Park. Take a look at this video above. I'm sure you have this issue in your hood too. These young men are very talented and sometimes there has been a perception of all these young rap groups as being gangstas. There are issues with police and other community problems like homicides, guns and so on in Regents Park. We lost 4 alone last year in there.

Albert Kiwubeyi, Nicholas Yombo, Sealand White and Jermaine Derby. Those four 15-18 were all alive when this video was shot and now all gone. My advice to police and community is to work with these young men instead of unfairly targeting them sometimes. Give them a chance and see what they may have to offer.

This is probably a fitting tribute where an entire community comes out and pays tribute to all the ones lost in the struggle. Perfect 10 for this video. Read more about Regents Park. Another rap group who came out of that area are JUNO nominees POINT BLANK.

TnT consists of rappers Turk and Tyke who both originate from the Regent Park housing community in Toronto, Canada. Coming up in this harsh environment with a love for hip hop has produced a unique street sound moulded and shaped by personal trials and tribulations. It’s a sound that has earned the group not just local but national recognition on a unheard of independent scale. Their venomous lyrics are rife with street tales of triumph and heartache along with the hunger shared by the new generation of reality rap artist. Their lyrics warn kids about the dangers and downfalls of thug life and try and show that there are options in life other than the ones they chose without preaching.

It is not news if you have not heard that MRO (if I can get my hand on their logo name MяO™) won the first two band contests that may lead them to London, UK where they will open up for Bon Jovi. This is a rock'n'Roll band that I have been following from day one. The Gandinetti and the Bundas brothers were at Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Toronto just 2 weeks ago where KJ and I attended their first challenge in the "Battle of the Bands" and they soared with some sets out of this world. Going to an MRO show is a PARTY! They are not a cookie cutter band. Everything's original and smooth.

The album name is a secret and there may even be a song about me...lol. OK, they spoke to me about young children getting into music and how we have all seen them popping up as YouTube phenomenoma. They really value the fact that LIVE music and playing the actual instruments is a valued thing when delivering good music to an audience. I talked to Matt Bundas the drummer in the band about the dynamics of drumming. Watch that segment in the video.

I spoke to David and Daniel Grandinetti and how the bass guitarists connect with the drummers, in this case with Matt. Daniel is the vocalist and does a good job at it!! Chris Bundas is the guitarist with some "extra" swagga aka lead Guitarist. The shiny lens glasses always on making his good looks even hotter. I tried to snatch them off his face but he guaranteed that there is another one coming right out of his pocket. Tonight 2/23/11 is the finals and we wish them good luck in winning this trophy. "We put our money where our mouths were and took the band to its next level. In May of 2009, the brothers of MRO started tracking at Metalworks studio just outside of Toronto. Alongside co-producer and head engineer Chris Crerar, (Three Days Grace, The Stills, Moneen,) lightning struck with their recordings and the Toronto indie band was on their way with something big. After spending a year in the studio recording and mixing, the album was then sent down to Hollywood, California where Tom Baker (Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver,) gave the final touches in mastering. RIHANNA ASKS COURT ORDER BARRING CHRIS BROWN BE LOWERED, GETS WISH.

A court order was lifted on Tuesday that had prevented R&B singer Chris Brown from coming into close contact with his ex-girlfriend Rihanna since a violent altercation two years ago.

Los Angeles Superior Court judge Patricia Schnegg downgraded the stay-away order that said Brown, 21, must stay 50 yards away from Rihanna, or 10 yards at entertainment industry events.

Schnegg replaced it with a less stringent order that bars Brown from harassing or annoying Rihanna, but allows him to speak to her.

Rihanna was not in court but her lawyer said that the "Rude Boy" and "Umbrella" singer had no objection to the change.

Brown, 21, who did attend Tuesday's brief hearing, pleaded guilty in 2009 to assaulting Rihanna on the eve of the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. He was sentenced to five years probation and community service and recently completed a year-long domestic violence course.

Brown last week skipped the music industry's Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, despite being nominated for three honors. Rihanna performed on the show but failed to win any of the four awards for which she was nominated.

TORONTO POLICE CHIEF WILLIAM BLAIR ON Z103.5FM FEB 16th 2011

Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair was live on radio @Z103.5FM this morning on his annual Crime Stoppers and state of the department visit. He spoke on "The Scott Fox Morning Show" at 7.35am and covered all topics like Crime Stoppers and how it works with social media bringing his social media cop Constable Scott Mills with him. Mills spoke about the effect of CS on "prevention" and the increase of tips for prevention and generally how the system worked. Blair also spoke about the violent crimes with firearms that occurred this past weekend where three young men in their 20's were shot with two dead and one still on life support.

He stressed that the use of firearms needs to stop, something I always preach in this city. Blair elaborated on the drinking and driving as well as the texting laws and the ride program on Superbowl Sunday as well as other sports and award show event days where people are going to drink at a game or an event at a bar and then get on the wheels. Blair himself participated in one of these programs where he physically was greeting, checking and advising drivers.

Finally he spoke about the worst nightmare any chief could experience. The death of one of his own. Sgt Ryan Russell's death, the 52 Division cop who was killed in a snow plow rampage. Blair also congratulated Bill Evanov, the owner of the station and broadcast pioneer who will be inducted into the broadcast hall of fame during Canadian Music Week in March 2011.

BILLY RAY CYRUS SAYS HANNAH MONTANA RUINED HIS FAMILY?

It’s a Disney story without a happy ending: In the latest issue of GQ, Billy Ray Cyrus says that the fourth and final season of Hannah Montana, the show that made his daughter Miley a superstar, was “a disaster.”

“I was going to work every single day knowing that my family had fallen apart, but yet I had to sit in front of that camera,” he tells the magazine. “The damn show destroyed my family. And I sit there and go, ‘Yeah, you know what? Some gave all.’ It is my motto, and guess what? I have to eat that one. I some-gave-all’d it all right. I some-gave-all’d it while everybody else was going to the bank. It’s all sad.”

As for his daughter, he says, “I’m scared for her. She’s got a lot of people around her that’s putting her in a great deal of danger. I know she’s 18, but I still feel like as her daddy I’d like to try to help. Take care of her just a little bit, to at least get her out of danger. I want to get her sheltered from the storm. Stop the insanity just for a minute.”

“Every time something happened in Miley’s career, every time the train went off the track, if you will — Vanity Fair, pole-dancing, whatever scandal it was — her people, or as they say in today’s news, her handlers, every time they’d put me… ‘Somebody’s shooting at Miley! Put the old man up there!’ Well, I took it, because I’m her daddy, and that’s what daddies do. ‘Okay, nail me to the cross, I’ll take it…”

“How many interviews did I give and say, ‘You know what’s important between me and Miley is I try to be a friend to my kids’? I said it a lot. And sometimes I would even read other parents might say, ‘You don’t need to be a friend, you need to be a parent.’ Well, I’m the first guy to say to them right now: You were right. I should have been a better parent. I should have said, ‘Enough is enough — it’s getting dangerous and somebody’s going to get hurt.’ I should have, but I didn’t. Honestly, I didn’t know the ball was out of bounds until it was way up in the stands somewhere.”

In an odd addendum, he compares his daughter’s struggles in the spotlight to those of the late Kurt Cobain, with whom he had an unlikely friendship in the early ’90s: “He was one of those guys that became a friend to me that I never expected. We met at a venue one night and I was standing in the shadows, 1 a.m. in the morning, and he’s ‘Hey man, congratulations — you pissed the whole world off.’ We shook hands, and I said, ‘Thanks, man… I love what you all do.’” He says that the pair bonded over their young daughters, and that Cobain was one of the few not to ostracize him at an awards ceremony during his “Achy Breaky” days.

In the end, says Cyrus, he would trade all his family’s success to regain their happiness: ”I hate to say it, but yes, I do. Yeah. I’d take it back in a second,” Cyrus says. “For my family to be here and just be everybody okay, safe and sound and happy and normal, would have been fantastic. Heck, yeah. I’d erase it all in a second if I could.”

So now, Fantasia won her first Grammy and she did not show up. Why? Cos she was snubbed in the Aretha Franklin tribute. Who do you think should have been the one to have been replaced for her? I say---YOLANDA ADAMS!

ARCADE FIRE WINS BEST INTERNATIONAL/BEST ALBUM AT THE UK BRITT AWARDS.

The honours keep piling up for Arcade Fire. Two days after their surprise Grammy win for album of the year, the Montreal band has won two prominent BRIT Awards: best international group and best international album (for their critically-acclaimed effort The Suburbs).The Brit Awards, handed out Tuesday at O2 Arena in London, are the U.K. equivalent to the Grammys.To garner the prize for best international act, Arcade Fire edged out Black Eyed Peas, Vampire Weekend, The Script and Kings of Leon.
