Nigeria beat Angola in AfroBasket 2015 Final to win first-ever continental title #HNNSports

RADES (AfroBasket 2015) - Nigeria beat Angola 74-65 in the Final of AfroBasket 2015 in Rades, Tunisia on Sunday to claim their first-ever continental championship.

In being crowned African champions, the Nigerians also qualified for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Meanwhile, second-place Angola joined third- and fourth-place Tunisia and Senegal in booking their places for the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQTs).

Angola went into the Final looking to win a 12th African title and led early on, before Nigeria's rotation made the difference as they turned the score around in the second quarter and once they took the lead, they held on to it, going up by as many as 19 points.

Chamberlain Oguchi hit a trifecta of three-pointers on his way to a game-high 19 points for Nigeria, with Olaseni Lawal finished with a dozen. Carlos Morais led the Angolans with 15 points while Yanick Moreira added 13.

Nigerians have always been good ballers especially in the NBA in America. Now some of these dudes need to go to the US and become free agents.

#HNNHealth The URGENT CRISIS of #Prostate Cancer in #Nigeria and why many men MAY DIE in 2015/2016

By Dr Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo (Special to Facebook.com/Vitaminkemi and @HealthReports)

Many men may die in the next September is National Prostate Cancer awareness month. Many men in Nigeria have been diagnosed of Prostate cancer in Nigeria but most importantly many have died of it, months if left untreated. Some have not even heard or done their PSA test. others have gone public telling the world about their stories of pain and many are public figures. Several high profile public figures in Nigeria have either been diagnosed or have died of Prostate cancer in the last 12 months. Alhaji Abdulazeez Arisekola, Pa Idibia (Tuface's father), Emir Ado Bayero, are just examples of those that died in the last 12 months. Some living with it it include my own father Victor Omololu Olunloyo, Prof Wole Soyinka, Bishop Desmond Tutu, and even President Buhari among others. Most Nigerians are in denial that it even exists especially men in their 40's and 50's.

Lets take a look at the Prostate gland. The prostate gland is located below the bladder and in front of the rectum. A cancer in a man's prostate is a small walnut-shaped gland that produces seminal fluid. It is the second most common cancer in men after skin cancer. No one knows what the exact figures of men diagnosed in Nigeria is, with many uneducated about it, they just hear about the prominent figures that have it. The size of the prostate changes with age and it is fueled by male hormones like testosterone as well as growing faster with puberty. The prostate’s job is to make some of the fluid that protects and nourishes sperm cells in semen, making the semen more liquid so yes it has a lot to do with sexual health.

According to the American Cancer Society manual, the inner part of the prostate (around the urethra) often keeps growing as men get older, which can lead to a common condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). In BPH, the prostate tissue can press on the urethra, leading to problems passing urine.

BPH is not cancer and does not develop into cancer. But it can be a serious problem for some men. If it requires treatment, medicines can often be used to shrink the size of the prostate or to relax the muscles in it, which usually helps with urine flow. If medicines aren’t helpful, some type of surgery, such as a transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) may be needed. Early symptoms may not show much but advanced stages of this cancer can show blood in urine, erectile dysfunction, problems passing urine, weakness or numbness of the feet or even pain in the bones (hips and back) where the cancer has spread to.

Several types of cells are found in the prostate, but almost all prostate cancers develop from the gland cells (the cells that make the prostate fluid that is added to the semen). The medical term for a cancer that starts in gland cells is adenocarcinoma. There are other types of prostate like cancers but most are usually adenocarcinomas. Some prostate cancers can grow and spread quickly, but most grow slowly. In fact, autopsy studies show that many older men (and even some younger men) who died of other causes also had prostate cancer that never affected them during their lives. In many cases neither they nor their doctors even knew they had it.

So men asks me daily how they can get checked for prostate cancer. The PSA test which is often used is now being said is not as reliable. I still highly recommend it for men in Nigeria who have no access to these tests easily because of lack of knowledge. Treatment can be successful if the cancer is diagnosed early with the PSA found in urine. But that test often gives false alarms or identifies cancers that develop so slowly they don’t require treatment. However learn to ask your doctor questions as early detection is still the key to survival. the local villagers and illiterates who do not know anything about this condition need to be educated drastically by health departments.

The herbs Echinacea and Saw Palmetto are great nutritional supplements for good prostate health and can be purchased at any chemist in Nigeria. In adavance stages, prescription drugs like Proscar (Finasteride) and Dutasteride (Avodart) are safe ones to manage patients. Remember always ask your health professional questions regarding your prostate health.

#VMAS Kanye West announces his Presidential bid for 2020 and Donald Trump ain't happy.

WORST #VMAS moment: Did Justin Bieber breakdown after the show?

BEST #VMAs Moment: Ru Paul's drag queens had their moment with Miley.

You have probably never heard of Laganja Estranja, but the talented season six contestant of "RuPaul's Drag Race" has spent the last year and a half trying to repair her reputation for simply trying too hard on a TV reality show -- imagine that. Cyrus, who is a big fan of the program, not only had some of the biggest stars of the series back her up for the show's finale, but she gave Estranja a chance to deliver her patented "death drop" to the world. On a gigantic stage, Cyrus allowed a tiny comeback moment.

BEST #VMAS SPEECH: @KanyeWest's Gonzo Vanguard award acceptance speech.

Kanye West's acceptance speech for the career-honoring Video Vanguard Award was twelve minutes of wild accusations about the Grammys, his own career, and his impact. It was shockingly heavy-handed, especially when you consider how jovial he seemed to be throughout the rest of the ceremony. Best part? When he declared himself a millennial: But all I can say to my fellow artists: "Just worry how you feel at the time, man. Just worry how you feel.' I’m confident. I believe in myself. We the millennials, bro. This is a new mentality."

BEST #VMAs Moment: Nicki Minaj's shady acceptance speech hitting on white gals Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus

Nicki Minaj picked up the Best Hip-Hop Video trophy for "Anaconda," and in her speech she seemed to be mocking other pop divas (namely Taylor Swift, if I was reading her right) with high-pitched delivery. She thanked her fans for being "epic," which seemed pretty mocking too. Whatever it was, it was heaven. And she even got in a snarl at host Miley Cyrus, who took it in stride.

BELMAR, N.J. — A 20-year-old Rutgers University student who is waiting tables at D'Jais Bar & Grill this summer to help put herself through school, got an unwelcome lesson in the humanities this last week.

On Aug. 17, Jess Jones of Belmar, N.J., was waiting on a party of eight at the restaurant and night club here. After the $112.03 bill was paid for by credit card, Jones discovered that her customers had left her no tip. Instead, the texting acronym "LOL" — for laughing out loud — was written on the tip line of the receipt next to the words, "1 hour for food."

The following day, Jones took to her Facebook page to lament about the indignity, where she also posted a photo of the receipt (blurring out any personal information belonging to the offending patrons).

UN's Ban Ki-moon in Nigeria in wake of attack on army chief

                                                                                                                  AFP
UN chief Ban Ki-moon began a two-day visit to Nigeria Sunday in the wake of a suspected Boko Haram ambush on the army chief, saying it was "a time of hope" despite the rise of extremism. Combating Islamist violence is expected to be high on the agenda as the secretary-general holds talks with President Muhammadu Buhari, whose inauguration in May sparked a massive upsurge in jihadist attacks.

"Across our world, we see insecurity, inequality, growing divides," Ban told a private meeting of state governors in Abuja, according to a UN statement.

"Here in Nigeria, you know the challenges all too well –- including the rise of extremism and the lack of equal opportunity.

"I know this is a deep and vital challenge in particular for the governors of the northeast... This is also a time of hope. I want to commend you and all of Nigeria's leaders for the peaceful democratic transition of power."

Ban touched down at Abuja's international airport just hours after the military revealed Boko Haram fighters had ambushed a convoy carrying Nigeria's army chief-of-staff Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai.

Drake and Serena spotted KISSING passionately!

Rapper Drake's low-key on/off with tennis ace Serena Williams is no longer under the radar after the hot pair was spotted kissing passionately at a Cincinnati, Ohio restaurant on Sunday night.

The supercouple locked lips over an intimate dinner at Sotto, and though Drake and the sportswoman were trying to keep a low profile, several fellow diners caught their cosy behaviour.

Serena and Drake were previously linked in 2011, and he was courtside at Wimbledon earlier this summer watching the tennis star romp to her sixth U.K. win and her 21st major title.

God Forgives Christian YouTube Star for using Ashley Madison Cheating Service

"I have been completely cleansed of this sin," Sam Rader tells Youtube fans.

Christian YouTube star Sam Rader may be an adulterous Ashley Madison user, but it’s OK because his wife, and God, have forgiven him.

Hours after The Daily Mail revealed that Rader paid for an account on the affair site, he and his wife Nia announced, via vlog, that his transgressions were absolved.

“This was brought to my wife’s attention. She has forgiven me for this mistake that I have made in opening the account. I have sought forgiveness from God and he has forgiven me,” Rader continues. “So I have been completely cleansed of this sin.”

The Daily Mail reported that Rader made six payments to Ashley Madison in 2013. In the defensive video, however, Rader emphasizes, with Nia by his side, that he “never met with a single person face-to-face,” adding that “This account was opened out of pure fleshly desire and just simple curiosity.”

The Dynamic #Octogenerian: Ibadan Stood STILL for Chief Mrs Roseline Mowete's 80th birthday Saturday October 22nd 2015

Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo and Mrs Roseline Mowete (JP) Credits/KeminicationsMedia
In the true fashion of an Octogenerian, this lovely lady showed us what stuff is made of. She is regarded as everyone's mother, though she has 9 of her own children, Chief Mrs Roseline Mowete was the motherly figure we all grew up with.

Mrs Mowete, Mrs Laide Soyinka, KOO, Mrs Joke Lagundoye Credits/Keminications Media
I have my personal stories living on Ebrohime road at the University of Ibadan with the Lagundoyes when my mom had to travel abroad after my 8-year-old brother was stoned in the Ali Must Go riots of 1978 and he was flown abroad in a coma. Mrs Lagundoye was my mom's trusted friend. We met the Wole Soyinka children who lived in front of them and then there were all the girls at the end of the road since we and the Soyinkas were at the dead end of the street. No 2, Ebrohime road was the Mowete household, the first house on the street. We made friends with their daughters and attended school together, There were late evening days when we would eat dinner with the Mowetes and then go back up the street to the Lagundoye house where we were staying. We became the children of Ebrohime rd.

Catholic Bishops Alaba Job and Abegurin officiated with other priests Credits/Keminications Media
Now that you have heard my own personal story, you need to hear about this excellent birthday party. The birthday celebrations started with a service at the Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Catholic Church at the University of Ibadan, where we all worshipped as kids back then. This thanksgiving service started with prayers and hymns and was officiated by a team of priests led by the leader of the Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan, Bishop Dr Gabriel Leke Abegurin as well as the Archbishop Emeritus Bishop Dr Felix Alaba Job. There was dancing, thanksgiving and lots of cameras flashing all over the church. The celebration theme was orange and silver.

St Cecelia Student's student's choir (far left on top of the picture) belted out some great hymns throughout the service. Grandma Roseline Mowete was smiling bright on her dynamic day. Her birthday which was actually 17th of August was celebrated on Saturday the 22nd of August. Mrs Mowete's event program detailed all her milestones in her 80 years. From her youthful days to her marriage to Chief Patrick Ikedieshi Mowete and how God blessed them with nine lovely children, each child came up and dedicated tributes to their mom. The grandchildren and in-laws also wrote tributes in the event program.

As the church services ended, the guests went over to the reception hall where the mother of parties happened. The Mowete family dished out several delicacies to the guests including traditional fishes and a variety of global dishes, Chinese, English cuisine complete with desserts of all kinds, drinks ranged from water to juices, sodas, fine wines and liquors. the hall was vibrant with three beautiful humongous cakes, one particular cake was the signature adire fabric cake which Mrs Mowete was famous for.

She manufactured the tie and dye fabrics a lot when we were kids and she supplied them to several famous clients. My slide show below has all the cake photos and dishes. At the end of the party, there was a live band that supplied music guests danced to and several guests went home with party favours. I personally went home with almost 15 gifts and household items, personal care items and more. Congratulations to a unique beautiful and dynamic lady, Chief Mrs Roseline Mowete (JP). Enjoy the slide show. All photos must be credited to Keminications Media.

95% of Maryland Governor Hogan's cancer has gone #HNNHealth

Marvin Joseph/The Washington Post
"Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said Tuesday that 95 percent of his cancer is gone, according to a medical scan taken after his second round of chemotherapy.

'I aced my test,' said Hogan, sporting a bald head and a wide grin. 'Ninety-five percent is gone, disappeared, dead. I still have some remnants of the tumors, but it’s dead.'

Hogan said the progress that he has made over the last two months... has surprised his team of doctors.

'They were shocked at the results,' Hogan said. 'They were saying ‘we could not possibly have hoped for a better scan than that’.'"

Are you feeling Dizzy? You should be worried! #HNNHealth

Dizziness, which is a sense of unsteadiness or unstable movement, is a common symptom most people have experienced. To a great extent, dizziness falls into three large categories:
Vertigo, which is associated with a sense of spinning or movement
Imbalance or unsteadiness
Faintness

Depending on the severity of the symptoms, it can be both frightening and, at times, incapacitating. Approximately 15 percent of people experience dizziness each year. It's difficult to determine the exact rate, as many people don't seek medical care for their dizziness.

Papaya is the key and the folks at Maxipeel introduced me to theirs. My treatment is now done after 2 years of the soap, I am back to my Dettol soap an Dudu Osun to prevent any skin germs. I also clean my face weekly with bitter leaf and aloe which you can see on my instagram page. Maxipeel contains papaya which whitened my face and body clearing all the blotches and spots. I am satisfied. All papaya soaps are not the same but most do the same thing slower than Maxipeel. It costs about N425.

3 signs you have CHRONIC inflammation #HNNHealth

Rob Gage/Getty Images
Chronic inflammation, meanwhile, is not so good. Instead of helping your body heal, it's linked to problems ranging from arthritis to Alzheimer's, diabetes to hair loss. It's a systemic situation that's largely undetectable, unless you can convince your doctor you need a special blood test to look for it. (Looking for more health tips?

The below symptoms aren't necessarily grounds for a self-diagnosis of chronic inflammation, but they've been linked to the condition and could be a tip-off that that's what's going on for you. Keep in mind, though, that the research is still very preliminary, and these symptoms can be caused by a host of other factors, too. (Read more about foods that cause inflammation.)

The dangers of synthethic marijuana #HNNHealth

The Associated Press: Synthetic marijuana – pictured in these packets – can cause chest pain, vomiting, high blood pressure, tremor, seizures, hallucinations and paranoia.

During March of this year, without warning, many young men came to the hospital acting extremely violent and confused. While many patients had positive drug tests, the degree of violence and confusion was much higher than what my colleagues and I would have anticipated. After our patients had been sedated for a few days, the stories we heard about what led them to the hospital had a similar thread: They all used synthetic marijuana, which, although similar in name, is different from the marijuana you're probably familiar with.

Montefiore was not the only hospital that saw a spike in patients suffering from the harmful effects of synthetic marijuana. In April, synthetic pot sent 160 people to hospitals in the state of New York in a little over a week. Alabama public health officials shared that nearly 100 people had been hospitalized for problems linked to synthetic marijuana between March and April, while police in Virginia reported that someone died from a synthetic marijuana overdose in April.

Synthetic marijuana often goes by street names such as "K2," "Spice" and "Green Giant," and it can be bought at certain bodegas for as little as $5. Unlike heroin and cocaine, it's not made using just one chemical. Synthetic marijuana can be made with nearly 100 different chemicals that are often sprayed onto dried, shredded plant material. While different chemicals are used, the compounds have similar traits:

Cara Delevingne blames modeling on her skin condition #HNNHealth

Cara Delevingne was hugely successful as a model, and yet she walked away from the runway. Sure, she has embarked on a successful film career, but it turns out she had a good reason for leaving modeling behind: her health. Delevingne says the busy schedule and stress of being on display caused her to develop psoriasis. The skin condition was covered with makeup – by makeup artists who could not cover up their own disgust, MIMI reports. "People would put on gloves and not want to touch me because they thought it was, like, leprosy or something," she said. Psoriasis is not contagious.

"When you feel like you gave your whole life to somebody, and the sum of it all was you were a distraction..." she continues with tears coming down her face.

Fayose tells @MBuhari NOBODY can intimidate him #HNNGov

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to tread cautiously and be mindful of the body language of those hailing him today.

The governor, who said he was aware of sinister plots to destabilise his government because of his strong and truthful stands on national issues, vowed to “continue to speak the truth no matter whose ox is gored.”

Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose

Reminding the President that he is not heading a military regime, Fayose added that he could not be cowed by threats from any quarters.

According to a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose urged Buhari to take the advice of the former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar-led National Peace Committee, which told him to tread cautiously.

The statement said, “Opposition is one of the roots on which democracy stands and any President or governor that does not want opposition will eventually become a dictator.

“I want to state without fear or favour that I will continue to speak the truth no matter whose ox is gored.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us and no one can intimidate me or the good people of Ekiti State who freely and overwhelmingly gave me their mandate.

“Democracy as a form of government thrives on our ability to ask questions and get answers from our leaders.”

The governor urged the President to listen to wise counsel from Abubakar.

US Ambassador Entwistle says US NEVER placed an arms embargo on Nigeria #HNNGov

US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle

THERE are indications that the United States government is sending arms to the Nigerian military in its efforts to crush Boko Haram.

Facts that the US might start sending arms to Nigeria came on the heels of the US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle’s revelation in an interview with one of our correspondents that the US government never placed arms embargo on Nigeria.

“There’s been a lot of misunderstanding on this issue before, during and after President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Washington. Let me be clear about a couple of things. One, we had worked very closely with Nigeria on the Leahy Amendment….The second piece of misinformation, which has been bandied about in (newspapers’) headlines, is that the US has lifted its arms embargo on Nigeria. There was never an arms embargo,” Entwistle said.

Diabetes cases soar in the UK by 60% in past decade #HNNHealth

The number of people living with diabetes has soared by nearly 60% in the past decade, Diabetes UK warns.

The charity said more than 3.3 million people have some form of the condition, up from 2.1 million in 2005.

The inability to control the level of sugar in the blood can lead to blindness and amputations and is a massive drain on NHS resources.

Diabetes UK called for the NHS to improve care for patients and for greater efforts to prevent diabetes.

Roughly 90% of cases are type 2 diabetes, which is the form closely linked to diet and obesity.

People with type 1 generally develop it in childhood and are unable to produce the hormone insulin to control their blood sugar levels.
