After a six-year hiatus, the revered VH1 HIP HOP HONORS is back celebrating the best and brightest in hip hop with a twist. This year’s live event will pay homage to the female pioneers, trailblazers and trend-setters who led a movement and infiltrated the ranks of the male-dominated genre to make their voices heard and still do today. The final female artist being honored will be announced tomorrow.
Salt-n-Pepa helped pave the way for women in hip hop and has found an enviable longevity. They are the first female rap group to attain platinum status and have gone on to sell more than 12 million albums. Whether it was winning a Grammy in 1995 or Deadpool listening to “Push It” in 2016, Salt-n-Pepa’s influence has never waned.
