Today is June 9th 2009. IT IS LORENZO THOMAS' BIRTHDAY AGAIN. Signified by a Jamaica Jumpoff party yearly! If you lived in the Washington DC and Baltimore area, you probably know him from V103FM Baltimore and WKYS-FM. He is since gone to WEDR-FM in Miami and this butter toned hottie is our BEST friend in radio. His humility and caring amazes me. For the 13 years I have known Lorenzo Thomas, he has not changed. All the ladies love him. He is your girlfriend's favourite DJ fellas! Always surrounded by lovely classy chics, there is one side of him they probably don't know. Thomas always followed me to high schools when I went to talk to kids about staying away from drugs, guns and gangs. At the time, I was a Pharmacist at the peak of my career and we called that high school show "The Pharmacist and the DJ's." It was a successful campaign. What a beautiful Monday morning the 18th of August 2008. The famed morning show duo celebrated a big one. JJ King and Melanie Martin celebrated their first anniversary at Fran's restaurant downtown on Victoria and Shuter. There were friends and fans of the show, lots of cake and even a JJ and Melanie special breakfast made up of pancakes one stacked on top of the other. LOL! I have blogged the two's show for a year now and all the fun stuff that happens on that show.
Remember when I interviewed Melanie last year, we reflected on her getting into the radio career and the determination to be where you wanna be. Many memories has gone by from even when their new Producer arrived to join the show in Toronto. Johnny Michaels aka "Newbie" came to town, signed his apartment lease and before the ink was dry, roaches invaded his apartment! We at HipHossip told him to demand the "gel" treatment. Some kinda poison to roaches and safe for us humans and Newbie even thanked me for the advice at the MMVA awards when I saw him there at the press room interviews with JJ. One thing that makes this my morning show fave is that they are who they are and do it just natural. You feel like you have known them forever.
Melanie is the mother of a teenager and spends a lot of time with her longtime boyfriend as we know him on the show as the "BF."JJ is a married dude enjoying life constantly with his wife and Newbie has fascinated us with some silly things on the air that we felt like putting him on a most wanted list. Remember the baddest crime he committed? Going to his sister's wedding cake before the reception started and cutting a piece for himself and his girlfriend???Whoa Newbie! The morning show is as real as it gets on Flow 93.5FM. Newbie was not present at Fran's as he had to be in the station controlling things for this unique remote show.
Team Flow's Lexi and Kid Famous were on hand as KJ became their instant pal! Lexi introduced KJ to JJ and Melanie and he even met Wayne Williams the Program Director who gave him ashirt. KJ promptly went to change in the washroom claiming he had to pee. Some city construction workers even came in to fulfill their fantasies by personally wishing Melanie Happy Anniversary. JJ and Melanie, the hottest morning show personalities in Toronto at Flow 93.5FM wanted the listeners to know that there is no hokey pokey going on in the studios. They said that the love they have for each other was that of a brother and sister.......not even the coworker love. "BROTHER and SISTER!" Awww! Isn't that so sweet, I met Melanie last week and let me tell you she's a HOTTIE! I always thought she was black at least from this picture. She looks like a mix of Fergie and Halle Berry but with a better body. Fit, trim and has it going on in the looks department. She's a mother of a 15 year old,(dont ever call her a single mom!) lives with her great longtime boyfriend of 10 years, confident and absolutely professional. Contrary to popular belief and your barage of protests yesterday on why I didn't blog the site yesterday? So you didn't get your daily FIX heh? An e-mailer said I went on a morning shopping spree with Melanie doing the "girl thing." One e-mailer even said they spotted me at Holt Renfrew on Bloor-Yonge browsing thru $1,500 handbags and saw me trying on a $3,980 sweater at the Dolce and Gabanna corner. You were right there.....but you must have seen yours truly with a man, my Videojournalist and 21 year old son Eni.
To the snitch, Melanie and I spent the morning together okay, but you're gonna have to wait till December 1st as she is the next featured personality in my Broadcaster Profile Series. Melanie and I have wanted to do this for a long time since September but due to some schedule hitches, we cancelled. Well yesterday I dropped by the fully MODERN Flow 93.5FM studios and we chatted away! The interview was w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l is all I can say. Mark your calenders. Yes, Florida is Canada's 11th province if you Americans don't know that yet. We are working on taking over that state. With the cold and snow up here, going to Florida is like going to the islands for you Americans. The only hip-hop station in Canada Flow 93.5FM has a big announcement this morning and that was from the JJ and Melanie Morning Show. That guy with the two letter name and our gorgeus pal Melanie are taking listeners to ORLANDO on TRIPS! It's gonna be one or the other. Then later other Flow personalities will follow. Let's face it, since MTV Base Africa called me "The First Lady of Canada's hip-hop news" yesterday and Scott Boogie of Flow 93.5FM is the "Next Prime Minister", doesn't that make us a COUPLE??? Scott better plan on taking me on one of those Orlando trips! LOL!

I aired this interview with Melanie on Dec 5th 2007 on my media blog and most of you are requesting it since you didn't see it and it belongs here too......The videos are coming!
What's it like working at Flow I asked her? This gorgeous radio personality grew up in Sudbury and graduated from Humber College. She says it's a wonderful family oriented atmosphere to work in and chuckles about her love-hate relationship with JJ and compares it with working with a brother. She describes her transition to a morning personality as a quick journey for her personally and did not believe in the people that said that she was not going to work in a big market such as Toronto. When you have the passion, do it! When you want to be on the air, get on the air she said as she was advised. It's never too soon. She showed persistence and it paid off!
Within 6 months she was at Flow after she graduated. As I said earlier, she attended and graduated from Humber College. I asked her about the personal lives of artists they play on the air and how important that was to her and the listener. I detailed some examples from some artists I personally knew in my Atlanta Entertainment Reporter days. She says that this is important as long as it does not get too much like the Britney Spears thing. We talked about Kanye West's mom, Whitney and Bobby and also T.I.
She did not like much of gangsta rap which she called "hard core" rap. The "ho" word and "killing people" phenomena is not for her. She also wants to set an example for her 15-year-old daughter. She told me she really admired singer Beyonce and her talents and I asked her what her dreams were. Melanie said she wanted to be on Broadway but she couldn't sing. We joked about dirty dancing which is something she would love to give a try.
I asked her about her daughter who she said that she had very young so nobody believes she has a teen daughter. She and her boyfriend have been living together for 11 years probably since the little girl was 4 years old and she does not consider herself being a single mom. Melanie told me she and her loyal boyfriend just bought a house together and one day they may get married. She does give more power to all single moms out there including me. That was nice of her to say. She's done a lot of TV at much Music, E-Talk, MTV and lots of Canadian Idol commercials and will advance her career as things come along. What a simple life! Wish we could all live like that. Thank you Melanie for that beautiful sit-down interview. Appreciate you!

They talked about ongoing and upcoming projects and also the X-Files movie in theaters which he stars in. He also spoke about the "Fence" movie and another one I didn't catch. I would have gotten the audio but I was still at home in the shower heading to the office so sorry about that. Most importantly, the sad part of the phone chat was that X says he's done with "PIMP MY RIDE" on MTV. That was the show that unleashed his true style. Awww! MTV are you listening?

With all the hype over the sexual harrasement case Wendy Williams' Producer filed against her claiming her husband Big Kev made advances on her, has now resulted in a sex tape. This will obviously pump up the investigation as Kevin is now seen servicing a groupie---on tape! Williams is New York's #1 female radio personality at WBLS-FM. Caution: not safe at work (hardcore sex) Is Wendy gonna believe all the accusers now? This case is getting even more complicted!

New York radio's WBLS' Wendy Williams is coming to daytime talk. The female Shock Jock in New York City has teamed up with Fox to launch a daytime talk that will premiere on July 14th. The Wendy Williams Show will debut in New York, Detroit, and Los Angeles before hitting the airwaves nationwide. Oh Yeah! Wendy was just in some kind of sexual harrasment lawsuit with her producer involving her husband. That hopefully will be settled! She is an African-American radio talk-show hostess, television personality, and New York Times best-selling author.
Wendy Williams is best known for being a DJ in New York, where she gossips about celebrities and conducts interviews with famous people; she has also gained notoriety for her on-air spats with celebrities, most notably Whitney Houston. Since the early 2000's, Wendy Williams has hosted the highest rated weekday syndicated radio broadcast named "The Wendy Williams Experience", on WBLS 107.5 FM radio station in New York City.
UPDATE 2.13pm: I just spoke to Scott Boogie and he was the most wonderful professional that just loves what he does. We chatted about music, artists and Estelle. That interview was something that was quickly done by Warner. It wasn't really planned that far ahead and I know how those go in the industry. Boogie also chatted with me about his upcoming urban TV reality show and even told me he was a "honorary Nigerian" mentioning some of the favorite meals I cook back home. Stay tuned for the reality show! BTW, Warner music just told me that Estelle is coming back to Toronto.
12.45pm: The First Lady of hip-hop news in Canada was dissing Flow 93.5FM's Scott Boogie for not letting me know that he sat down and probably dined with R&B singer Estelle in Toronto this past Saturday night. She said "American Boy" not Canadian Boy? However I was over at Canadian Idol and he probably thought I was very busy. When are we going to hear that audio which is still not yet on the Flow site.
Hailing from the city of Scarborough, Ontario, and currently commuting between Toronto and Montreal. DJing in Canada for the past 15 years, Scott Boogie is a veteran in the music industry. Starting his career with a crew called VIP and gaining a national audience when a television special was shown across the country about them. Subsequent to that he joined a crew called the Dogg Squad, which included members Dr. Jay and Mikey Wizdom (whom are now both Soca DJ’s) and then proceeded to move to Ottawa where he starting a crew called the Groove Train in 1992.
Nominated 5 years straight as Soul Choice DJ record pools DJ of the year. Rated the number one Campus radio show in the country in 1998 till 2000, for the Comfort Zone program on CKCU. At the time, I was a Pharmacist at the peak of my career and we called that high school show "The Pharmacist and the DJ's." It was a successful campaign. To you Lorenzo, I want to say THANK YOU! My sons and so many young boys turned out great because of you! Great mentors like you will never be forgotten. Let today's 12 year olds know you have been there for our young men in their 20's since they were 7 and 12 too. My boys are also his pals on FB. Oh yeah and ....22 year old Eni is taller than him now as you can see above in this 2008 picture at an award show afterparty. Can you imagine Lorenzo, I am actually partying with the boys at 45. Have a happy birthday and hope to see you soon. I have not seen you since 1999. 10 YEARS!!!
