Facebook FIRES Trending Team as algorithms were flawed on Megyn Kelly Trend #HNNTech

Now if I were in Lagos, Nigeria today, that would have been my question for Mark Zuckerberg. If you are a trending news website like #HNNAfrica you would have noticed there are no more details on trending stories on Facebook. Facebook is not a media company but it is the source of news for 44% of adults out there. What happened severely backfired and as much as 18 people were FIRED!

It’s been a rough few days for Facebook’s Trending Topics. The company announced on Friday that it’s made the news list more automated by removing article descriptions and leaning more heavily on algorithms to produce it. 

The company also reportedly fired as many as 18 editorial contractors responsible for writing descriptions and ensuring the accuracy of the sources it uses. Now we’re watching the immediate — and disastrous — effects unfold. Yesterday, a more serious error occurred: a fake news story about Fox News commentator Megyn Kelly’s supposed secret affinity for Hillary Clinton blew up on Facebook, landing it on top of the Trending list. Not only did the engineers (or algorithms) responsible for Trending fail to realize the story was false — it came from a partisan libertarian source called End the Fed — but Facebook also left it in the Trending module for hours to collect likes and comments. All the while, the company unwittingly gave enormous exposure to a damaging piece of false information.

So over the course of a single weekend, Facebook’s attempts to reorient one of its most prominent news products backfired in a big way. In its efforts to rely more heavily on algorithms, the company exposed a central vulnerability in its approach to news. All it took was 72 hours, and a false news story in the heat of a polarizing US election season, to show how fallible its algorithms can be.

However Prince Harry, 31, recently revealed that he regrets 'not talking' about the death of his mother for much of his life.

Speaking with former football star Rio Ferdinand, who lost his wife to cancer last year, Harry discussed bereavement at a Kensington Palace barbecue for mental health campaign group Heads Together.

The royal discussed the impact the Princess of Wales' death, when Harry was 12, has had on him when asked by Ferdinand how he coped with the loss.

It was 19 years ago Diana was in that car with boyfriend Dodi Fayed who we also remember today and the ghastly accident happened in Paris. The prince admitted that it was only three years ago that he began to open up about how he felt about losing his mother, saying he didn't speak about Diana's death 'for the first 28 years of my life.'

The youngest son of Prince Charles and the late Princess of Wales said he'd come to realise that talking was the key: 'It is OK to suffer, but as long as you talk about it. It is not a weakness. Weakness is having a problem and not recognising it and not solving that problem.'

He added: 'A lot of people think if you've got a job, if you've got financial security, if you've got a family, you've got a house, all that sort of stuff, everyone seems to think that is all you need and you are absolutely fine to deal with stuff.

Why Brazil OUSTED Dilma Rousseff as President? #HNNGov

Brazil's Senate has voted to remove President Dilma Rousseff from office for manipulating the budget.

It puts an end to the 13 years in power of her left-wing Workers' Party. Ms Rousseff had denied the charges.

Sixty-one senators voted in favour of her dismissal and 20 against, meeting the two-thirds majority needed to remove her from the presidency.

Michel Temer has been sworn in as president and will serve out Ms Rousseff's term until 1 January 2019.

She was accused of moving funds between government budgets, which is illegal under Brazilian law.

Her critics said she was trying to plug deficit holes in popular social programmes to boost her chances of being re-elected for a second term in October 2014. She called it a parliamentary coup. 

Even Venezuela removed the Brazilian ambassador and froze relations. I personally think she did a lot for that country as a female president. The World Cup and the Olympics went to that country, jobs were created but of course once you do one thing wrong, that's the end. Game over Dilma!

Before a good breakfast, Mark Zuckerberg who is still in Nigeria, took a jog on Ikoyi-Lekki Bridge this morning. This bridge is famous for a lot of things including that Tee Billz attempted suicide saga. Today it was for jogging for the 7th richest man in the world.

I'm still watching this Zuckerberg visit. Notice how he hasn't met one single lawmaker. Not even Ambode, Governor of Lagos state. On Twitter, my followers said they don't want him meeting our "dumbass" lawmakers.

#BREAKING Standoff ended @ChrisBrown's home. He has EXITED #HNNShowbiz

HNNAfrica is in Santa Monica and reporting this directly from TMZ. This is a bad situation. Police have retrieved at least one gun, other weapons and drugs from Chris Brown's home, after Chris threw a duffel bag out the window of his home ... TMZ has learned.

TMZ broke the story ... cops raced to Chris' home early Tuesday morning after a woman called 911 and claimed he pulled a gun on her. 

Police have been at the house since 3 AM and are in the process of getting a search warrant. Chris has not left the house, but multiple sources tell us he was defiant as he threw the duffel bag out the window, taunting cops and saying, "Come and get me."

Chris posted a video in which he refers to Black Lives Matter, saying "f*** the police."
Two sources on scene tells us in addition to weapons there were drugs in the duffel bag.

As for the woman who called 911 ... she's a beauty pageant title holder.

Attorney Mark Geragos has arrived and police are waiting for Chris to surrender. I hope this young man is not going down again. After the Rihanna thing, Chris was put on probation. I don't even know if that is still in effect as he may go back to jail. The latest now is that he has exited the house and police are checking people for weapons. A lot of people came out of that house according to a picture posted by CBS Los Angeles.

Dancing With The Stars cast announced #HNNShowbiz

The cast of DWTS is out and we heard Amber Rose and Vanilla Ice will be dancing alongside that Olympic liar Ryan Lochte and others. 

ABC announced the competitors for the 23rd season of Dancing With the Stars on Good Morning America this morning (Aug. 30) with a few hip-hop and R&B personalities among them. Amber Rose, Vanilla Ice and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds will join a cast that included Olympic gold medalists Ryan Lochte and Laurie Hernandez, recently retired wide receiver Calvin Johnson, as well as Maureen McCormick, Terra Jole, Marilu Henner, Gov. Rick Perry, Jake T. Austin, James Hinchcliffe and Jana Kramer.

The new season premieres at 8 p.m. EST on Monday, Sept. 12. Watch the cast reveal up above.

Hip-hop and R&B artists have starred in the reality competition before, with Mya finishing highest, taking home second place in season 9. Master P competed in season 2, Mario was featured in season 6, Toni Braxton joined for season 7 and Lil Kim starred in season 8. Continuing the trend, Macy Gray signed on for season 9, with Brandy included for season 11, Master P’s son Romeo tapped for season 12 and Christina Milian joining in season 17. Of these names, only Mya has finished in the top 3.

On Monday’s episode of Fox & Friends, Rudy G criticized Queen Bey’s set and called it “anti-police.” He continued by saying, “I ran the largest and best police department in the world, the New York City Police Department. I saved more Black lives than any of those people you saw on stage by reducing crime, and particularly homicide, by 75 percent — of which maybe 4,000 or 5,000 were African-American young people, who are all alive today because of the policies I put in effect that weren’t in effect for 35 years.”

Hey, Mr. Giuliani, here’s the thing: even if that’s true, what the fuck does it have to do with a Beyoncé performance? The Houston-born singer is simply expressing her art – in no way, shape or form is she trying to attack Giuliani personally. Rudy G actually had the nerve to say he “saved more black lives than any of those people you saw on stage.” Whether or not that’s true, just by stating that, it’s showing a lack of respect for the mothers who lost their sons due to police brutality.

T.I. had some words for Giuliani in a brief conversation with TMZ. He says, “Who gives a fuck what Rudy Giuliani says about music? Like who cares? He’s not an aficionado of music. This isn’t politics. He needs to worry about Trump’s campaign.”

T.I.P. makes another good point, saying that Giuliani also imprisoned a lot of black men unnecessarily. “You have to count against the Black lives he saved for the Black lives he destroyed by imprisoning people for too long and taking them away from his families and breaking up homes.”

Personally I think some politicians did not like the fact that Beyonce brought some of the moms of police brutality victims to the show. My PAL T.I IS NOT EXACTLY GOOD FRIENDS WITH THE POLICE either.

The show is envisioned in the style of HBO’s Vinyl or The People Vs OJ Simpson and will reportedly touch on everything from Dame’s relationships with Aaliyah and Rachel Roy to his split with Jay. “Roc-A-Fella as a movement wasn’t revolving around one person, but that’s the way it was made to look,” Dash said. Dame as well said that he will try to include as much music from the label as possible, saying that he hopes Jay has no issue participating. “It’s not about the music that you hear,” Plummer added. “It’s about the actual [behind-the-scenes] story that’s never been told.”

“What defined what we were doing is everything that was in my life equals Roc-A-Fella,” Dame said. “There was a point of view at Roc-A-Fella I’m not quite sure people knew what it was. We had so much going on.”

US Senators Demand Answers from EpiPen Maker #HNNHealth

The Epi-Pen scandal continues. A group of 20 senators expressed their continued dissatisfaction with pharmaceutical company Mylan's handling of a price hike for their EpiPen product in a letter to the company's CEO.

Having come under fire in recent weeks for unprecedented price hikes of the EpiPen, Mylan has announced coupons and generic versions of the drug. But the group of Democrat senators, which includes Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, remain unconvinced.

"Your discount programs, however, represent a well-defined industry tactic to keep costs high through a complex shell game," the senators wrote. They elaborated that the high price of the drug would now be borne by the government, insurance companies, and workplaces, only to eventually increase premiums of those purchasing the drugs.

"The EpiPen ... has become so exorbitantly expensive that access to this life-saving combination product is in jeopardy for many Americans. As of May 2016, Mylan has increased the price of EpiPens in the United States by nearly 500 percent," the letter stated.

It noted the generic drug, which will be sold at $300, costs nearly three times as much as the branded version did just seven years ago. The letter also includes five pages of questions about Mylan's customers and costs, to which the senators demanded answers by September 12.

EpiPens are used to treat anaphylactic shock, a symptom of severe allergies often experienced by children that could lead to death.

Former Congressman Anthony Weiner caught in another SEXTING allegation #HNNPolitics

Anthony Weiner, the Congressman who resigned from office after pursuing women on Twitter and sending lewd photographs of himself, is in the spotlight again for all the wrong reasons.

While his wife, Huma Abedin, is off campaigning for former secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the New York Post reported Weiner has been sexting another woman — at one point posting a raunchy selfie with his 4-year-old son in the background.

The Post published the selfie, which shows Weiner wearing only white boxer briefs. His son is lying next to him in a green blanket. The tabloid also shared screenshots of the pair's exchanges, which began in late January 2015 after Weiner direct messaged her on Twitter. Their conversations continued through earlier this month.

Here's how the "cringe-inducing" image of him next to his son came to fruition, according to the Post.

Considering I'm the Facebook drama queen as named by blogger/journalist Stella Dimoko-Korkus. Facebook has always been solidly my main platform since 2004 when I worked in Harvard that summer. Andrew McCollum was one of the founders and Angel investor that actually sent me the famous e-mail to join as a beta tester then I named myself the first Nigerian on Facebook. 

I had 100,000 friends on MySpace and I wasn't a celebrity or musician. I just networked a lot and was one of the initial people on social media so I was a good candidate to help test Facebook. When Facebook rolled out to the public 10 years ago in 2006, my only real early friend was Glenda Day Dunlap an American lady I dragged from MySpace to join me on Facebook. Everyone has their Facebook story. lolz. 

Mark has been with the Pope earlier in the week and posted on his page that his next stop was Lagos. I don't know if Priscilla is on this leg of the trip with him. Great couple. So many new innovations on Facebook today, my favourite being the safety checks when there is a natural disaster or act of terrorism.  The 3 largest markets for Facebook in Africa are Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa with their offices in Johannesburg. Maybe he'll open an office soon in Nigeria and create jobs.

I spoke with him earlier today back in Nigeria. He is currently at some tech hub in Yaba, Lagos. Those kids above better be learning some app development or be 13yo to be on Facebook. lol. Have a nice time over there Mark.  Below is his post:

TMZ reports that WWE legend, Mr. Fuji, died Sunday morning ... the WWE announced.

Mr. Fuji -- real name Harry Fujiwara -- became a superstar not only as a wrestler, but also as a manager for stars like, George "The Animal" Steele and Yokozuna.

Best known for throwing salt into the eyes of his opponents ... Fuji was a 5-time WWE Tag Team champ.

Later in life ... he moved to Tennessee and opened a training dojo.

He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.

An escalating battle between Apple Inc. and Spotify Ltd. is leaving some musicians caught in the crossfire.

Spotify has been retaliating against musicians who introduce new material exclusively on rival Apple Music by making their songs harder to find, according to people familiar with the strategy. Artists who have given 

Apple exclusive access to new music have been told they won’t be able to get their tracks on featured playlists once the songs become available on Spotify, said the people, who declined to be identified discussing the steps. Those artists have also found their songs buried in the search rankings of Spotify, the world’s largest music-streaming service, the people said. Spotify said it doesn’t alter search rankings.

Spotify has been using such practices for about a year, one of the people said, though others said the efforts have escalated over the past few months. Artists who have given exclusives to Tidal, the streaming service run by Jay Z, have also been retaliated against, the person said, declining to identify specific musicians.

The “Famous” rapper, 39, was reportedly a no-show for his run through at Madison Square Garden in New York City, where his fellow artists spent hours finessing their performances on Sunday afternoon.

Two United Airlines Pilots arrested for suspected intoxication #HNNtravel

Two United Airlines pilots who have been arrested for suspected intoxication before they were to fly 141 passengers from Scotland to the United States will appear in a Scottish court Monday, police said.

The Police Service of Scotland said it arrested both pilots Saturday at Glasgow Airport and both men, aged 45 and 35, would be arraigned at a court in Paisley, a Glasgow suburb, to face charges connected to Britain's transport safety laws.

United Airlines said Saturday's flight from Glasgow to the U.S. city of Newark, New Jersey, was delayed for 10 hours while the airline sought replacement pilots.

"The two pilots have been removed from service and their flying duties," United spokeswoman Erin Benson said. "We are cooperating with the authorities and will conduct our own investigation as well. The safety of our customers and crew is our highest priority."

Saturday's arrests come barely a month after two Canadian pilots of an Air Transat plane were arrested at Glasgow Airport and charged with trying to fly while intoxicated.

Race car driver Tony Stewart to appeal insurance ruling in Kevin ward Jr suit #HNNSports

Attorneys for Tony Stewart have filed notice they plan to appeal a ruling in the driver's dispute with an insurance company.

A U.S. District Court in Utica, N.Y., ruled against Stewart on July 29, deciding Axis Insurance Co. was not responsible for any claims which might stem from the pending wrongful death civil suit brought against Stewart by the family of Kevin Ward Jr.

On Friday, Stewart's attorneys filed notice they plan to appeal the judgment in the U.S Court of Appeals' Second Circuit. The news was first reported by ESPN.com.

Colin Kaepernick, who has been mired in a quarterback controversy with Blaine Gabbert to see who will lead the 49ers this season, may have sparked a real controversy Friday night.

Kaepernick did not stand for the national anthem before the 49ers preseason game at Levi's Stadium, although the move went unnoticed by most at the time. ProFootballTalk.comreported the story more than an hour after the game, and no reporters asked Kaepernick about it following the 49ers 21-10 loss to the Packers.

Ithaca Student Anthony Nazaire stabbed to death #HNNCrime

The New York Post reports that an Ithaca College student from Brooklyn was stabbed to death in an early-morning brawl on Cornell University’s campus.

Anthony Nazaire, 20, was killed and another student suffered non-life threatening injuries during the Sunday morning fight that broke out around 1:50 a.m., according to the Ithaca Voice.

More than 100 people witnessed the melee, which happened just blocks from the Ivy League university in the popular nightlife area called Collegetown.

The surviving victim was airlifted to SUNY Upstate University Hospital where he was treated and released for multiple stab wounds.

Nazaire was declared dead at Cayuga Medical Center after emergency crews weren’t able to revive him at the scene.

“He’s never been in trouble with the law. He’s a very good student,” his distressed cousin, Channelle, told the website. “It’s very hard for me to even understand. I’m still in denial about it.”

She said Nazaire had just returned to Ithaca to start his sophomore year, where he was studying business administration on a full scholarship to the $40,658-a-year university.

“I cant even express how hurt I am but the pain that this person has cause my family to endure this is unbelievable this is a 19 year old educated well mannered young man full scholarship to a great college aspiring to gain his bachelors in business how could you rob him of his life how could you do this to us,” Channelle wrote on Facebook. “anthony i love you soooooooo much i wish i was there to help u i wish i could of saved u i just wish i could even see u one last time before this all shattered us into pieces.”

His death marks the first homicide in Ithaca in nearly five years.

Both Cornell and Ithaca College, which both started classes last week, are offering counseling to its students.

“There is nothing more important than the safety of our community; as such, this incident is deeply disturbing. Please be sure to take care of yourselves and each other throughout the coming days,” Ryan Lombardi, Cornell’s vice president for student at campus life, said in a statement.
