NEIL YOUNG TO GET JUNO AWARD FOR PHILANTROPY.


Neil Young is being honoured for his heart of gold.The Juno Awards have announced the 65-year-old as the 2011 recipient of the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award.Young will receive the award during this year’s Juno Awards, which will be held in Toronto on March 27. In 1985, Young co-founded Farm Aid, a benefit concert to help keep family farmers on their land. The concert celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, having raised more than $37 million since its inception.

Young and his wife, Pegi Young, also founded the Bridge School, an organization and school dedicated to educating children with speech and physical impairments.Two of Young’s three children have been diagnosed with cerebral palsy.Young’s latest album, Le Noise, has been certified gold in Canada since its September release and earned three nominations at the upcoming Grammy Awards. Toronto rapper Drake will host this year’s Juno Awards broadcast. Nominations will be announced on Tuesday. Previous winners of the Allan Waters award include Sarah McLachlan, Bryan Adams and Bruce Cockburn.
