The attack on Avijit Roy, a Bangladesh-born U.S. citizen known for speaking out against religious extremism, occurred on a crowded sidewalk as he and his wife, Rafida Ahmed Bonya, were returning from a book fair at Dhaka University.

Bonya, who is also a blogger, was critically injured when she tried to save her husband, according to the Prothom Alo newspaper. She was transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital to Square Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition, the newspaper reported.

Bonya, 45, and Roy, 42, have lived in their Alpharetta , Georgia USA since 2008. That's like me speaking out against Bokoharam in my country. Insane!

Moscow police are searching for suspects after prominent Russian politician Boris Nemtsov was shot to death near the Kremlin in what's being described as an ambush killing.

Details are still being gathered, but local sources reported that several shots were fired from a car, or from suspects who stepped out of a car, as Nemtsov was walking with a woman on a bridge Friday evening. Police were seen surrounding what appears to be a body bag with the Kremlin in the background. It's unclear if there were any other casualties. Nemtsov was a former deputy prime minister of Russia under President Boris Yeltsin and a well-known politician during the 1990s and into the 2000s. More recently, Nemtsov led the RPR-PARNAS, the Republican Party of Russia-People's Freedom Party. (Video via Deutsche Welle)

#HNNMemorial Star Trek's Leonard Nimoy dead at 83 from COPD.

Leonard Nimoy, known for his iconic character Mr. Spock on "Star Trek," has died, ABC News has confirmed via the actor's granddaughter and his agent Bob Gersh. He was 83.

"He was a remarkable man, well known not only for his acting and directing, but also for his photography, contemporary art collection, and for his extremely generous philanthropic contributions and support of the arts," Gersh said via a statement to ABC. "A private memorial service is being planned by the family. He will be missed by all."

Nimoy, who played first officer to William Shatner's Captain Kirk on the Starship Enterprise in TV and movies, died Friday morning in Bel-Air, California, his granddaughter Madeleine Nimoy confirmed.

His son Adam told the Associated Press that he died of end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

#RIP The boys at FGC Buni Yadi REMEMBERED a year later #HNNMemorial #HNNTerror

On February 25, 2014, fifty-nine boys were killed at the Federal Government College of Buni Yadi in Yobe State, Nigeria. The twenty-four buildings of the school were also burned down as a result of the attack. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but according to media and local officials the Islamist militants Boko Haram are suspected to be behind the attack. It is a year today and the Feds have not solved it. Police have no idea who did this or why? Everyone assumes it's Boko Haram. What about the boys as young as 12 who were victims here? While many are ripping the President for every single terror attack, why not start reporting all these crimes and suspicious attacks if any information is known?

The Ontario government has unveiled the first update to the province’s sex education curriculum since the invention of Google in 1998.

So antiquated was the existing syllabus that it did not even reflect the legalization of same-sex marriage in Canada more than a decade ago.

“We’re very committed to this,” Premier Kathleen Wynne told reporters after speaking to a rural Ontario municipal conference in Toronto.

Everything in the curriculum is “age appropriate” and “it’s done in a way kids can understand,” said Wynne, adding it’s important for kids as young as Grade 1 to learn about “different lifestyles and different family configurations.”

In the case of a girl with two dads, for example, “if her family is not reflected in the conversations . . . that’s going to be a problem” because the girl would feel left out.

Wynne, the first openly gay premier in Canadian history and a former education minister, has long championed a revised curriculum.

At least two people have been killed after a blast struck a crowd at a pro-Ukrainian rally far from eastern Ukraine's war zone, and Kiev said it had arrested suspects who had been armed and instructed in Russia.

Ukrainian authorities fear violence could spread from two rebellious provinces to other areas in the mainly Russian-speaking east, a swathe of territory which the Kremlin calls "New Russia".

The bomb in Kharkiv, the biggest city in the east, struck one of numerous events across Ukraine on Sunday marking the deaths of 100 protesters a year ago in an uprising that toppled a Moscow-backed president.

"Today is memorial Sunday, but on this day terrorist scum revealed its predatory nature," President Petro Poroshenko said on Facebook. "This is a brazen attempt to expand the territory of terrorism."

Amateur footage posted on the Internet showed a few hundred marchers with Ukrainian flags shouting "glory to the heroes!" when the blast occurred. Demonstrators and bystanders, including a woman pushing a baby in a pram, fled in panic. A wounded man in military uniform lay in snow crying for help.

The mine owners -- Harmony Gold -- said the blaze at the Kusasalethu mine, west of Johannesburg, had been contained and 280 of the men on shift had been rescued after finding refuge in underground emergency bays. But it said rescue workers were still trying to trace another 199 miners -- and to put out the blaze.

Borno State Government has declared Monday as a work-free day for the presidential campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress candidate, Maj. Gen Muhammadu Buhari.

This announcement was contained in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Jidda, which was made available to journalists in Maiduguri on Sunday.

Jidda said the gesture was to enable residents of the state to welcome Buhari to the state for his campaign rally.

The statement read, “The Borno State Government has declared Monday as a work free day.

“The declaration is to enable the people of the state to welcome the APC presidential candidate, Gen Muhammadu Buhari, who will arrive Maiduguri on a campaign visit on Monday.”

Jidda called on APC party supporters to come out en mass to welcome the guests.

The SSG added, “Governor Kashim Shettima has enjoined all Borno residents to come out en mass and line up the streets to welcome the Peoples’ General.”

Meanwhile preparations have been finalised to give the presidential candidate a glorious reception in Borno State. 

A visit to Ramat Square, which will hold the campaign rally, on Sunday afternoon by our correspondent showed that a massive podium was already in place.

New research by the website Quartz goes some way to confirming a three-year-old study that showed people in south-east Asia were more likely to claim to be Facebook-users than internet-users.

That research from Helani Galpaya in Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and Burma, saw her then boss at the LIRNEasia thinktank remark: “It seemed that in their minds, the internet did not exist; only Facebook.”

Quartz tried to replicate the phenomenon of Facebook members in emerging market countries not associating the site with the internet by commissioning surveys in Nigeria and Indonesia. The research suggested 11 per cent of Indonesians and nine per cent of Nigerians say they are active on Facebook, but don’t use the internet.

Facebook, which has 1.4billion members, has committed itself to extending internet access to the around 60 per cent of the world’s population currently cut off.

But does the disassociation of the internet and Facebook in some people’s minds mean that in the future, governments and companies will have to reach out via one site rather, and play by their rules, rather than use the open web?

Impeached Governor Murtala Nyako's son Abdul-Aziz is now in custody after a warrant was put out for his father and him by Nigeria's antigraft agency EFCC. According to the commission, Abdul-Aziz, was declared wanted “in the case of stealing, abuse of office and money laundering, is currently telling investigators all he knows about illicit funds traced to companies where he has interest.”

A statement released by the Head of Media & Publicity of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, said: He will have to explain how over N15 billion funds belonging to Adamawa State was laundered into the accounts of five companies owned by him- Blue Opal Nigeria limited, Crust Energy Nigeria Limited, Blue Ribbon Multilinks Limited, Tower Assets Management Limited and Blue Ribbon Bureau De Change.”

“The funds was funned into the accounts of the companies from Adamawa State accounts domiciled in a new generation bank by the account officer who incidentally is the manager and an in-law to ex-governor Nyako. The manager claimed he transferred the funds through verbal instruction from the former governor for purposes which are not stated.”

“Investigations revealed that from 2007 to 2011 within Nyako’s tenure in office, before he was impeached in 2014, he had directed that all of the state owned accounts domiciled in various banks be transferred to the new generation bank . Abdul-Aziz’s company, Blue Opal, is said to own, among other investments in Nigeria, an estate in Abuja, while his father’s account officer owns several properties and investments scattered around Abuja, Yola and Kano.”

MP Muchai was murdered in cold blood last week along with his security. Kenyatta attended this very packed funeral  and gave some harsh words to the killers. He posted below on his Facebook page: 

"Today I joined other mourners for the Memorial Service of the late Hon. George Muchai in Kanyariri, Kikuyu. My Government will continue with what Muchai stood for; the fight against these vices will not relent. For those who have killed Muchai, don’t think what you have done will stop this fight. We will continue with what Muchai was fighting. My Government will be firm in the war against corruption and impunity to the end. Muchai’s death has strengthened this resolve. Time has come in this country for us to say No to the few individuals who think they can continue perpetuating evil. We shall not allow a few corrupt, evil and inept people to intimidate others. This country is for over 40 million Kenyans and we shall win this war. To Muchai’s family; be strong that God is on your side, be strong we are with you, be strong that your father stood for what was right."

Earlier in the week he paid a visit to Muchai's family. My thoughts go out to Muchai's family. I hope they find the killers fast!

Here's one thing Jonathan has done in his administration that people have not seen or commended him for. The roads are safer! He posted on his Facebook page:

"All around Nigeria, this administration has focused attention on the reconstruction, rehabilitation or repair of our national road network.

Of the 35,000 kilometers of federal roads nationwide, we have constructed, rehabilitated or repaired 25,000 kilometers, making it easier to move across Nigeria thereby deepening the integration of our people.

Some of the roads were progress has been made include Benin-Ore, Vom-Manchok, Kano-Maiduguri, Lokoja-Abuja, Lokoja-Okene-Benin andOnitsha-Owerri to mention but a few.


This is even as the Loko-Oweto Bridge across the River Benue has almost reached completion stage while work on the 2nd Niger Bridge is making progress. When completed these bridges will shorten the journey of those traveling between North and South with attendant reduction in travel costs.

This administration believes in the unity of this great nation which is why we continue to invest in infrastructure such as roads, railways, airports and river dredging, to break down walls and make it possible for our people to make connections that foster togetherness, cooperation and peaceful coexistence. Gen Buhari's Facebook page is counting down the elections again as the elections are postponed. "Change is coming, Change is on the way. Things are about to change. #ThingsWILLChange" the regular hashtagged post was all that was posted on Feb 13th the anniversary of the real People's General the late Gen Murtala Muhammed. Why did Buhari forget the history of this nation?  

Goodluck Jonathan however as a sitting President remembered. How could a former military leader FORGET a day like this?? Jonathan posted below: 

"Today marks the 39th anniversary of the death of that great Nigerian hero, Murtala Mohammed, who gave his life for this great nation. In his lifetime he espoused the belief that Nigeria had come of age and is ready to play her rightful role as the leader of the Black Race and a hub for progressive government on the African continent. Thankfully, Nigeria has immortalized Murtala's legacy in books and monuments and will continue to do so such that our youth can learn from his life of purpose and commitment to higher ideals. May his soul continue to rest in peace and may God continue to comfort his family as a grateful nation remembers his sacrifice. GEJ"

Geez, rather than focus on March 28th, APC Nigeria's opposition wants people to celebrate what could have been. Valentine's day was the date of the Presidential elections now postponed to March 28th. I think the APC is going overboard by calling Buhari the people's general, something he admitted on CNN not being in 1984.

Considering the real People's general died 39 years ago yesterday and was not even hashtagged or remembered on Buhari's twitter or social media handles was a real damn shame! There is no more Febuhari folks. Focus on getting a debate. I will not vote for any candidate till I see a debate of what they are offering me.

Sun News Network went dark at dawn on Friday following a fruitless search for a buyer.

"I regret to inform you that Sun Media Corporation has made the difficult decision to shut down Sun News. As a result, the channel is now off the air," Julie Tremblay, president and CEO of Sun Media told staff in an internal memo early Friday.

"Over the past few years, every possible effort was made to achieve sufficient market penetration to generate the profits needed to operate a national news channel. Unfortunately, those efforts did not bear fruit because of the numerous roadblocks to carriage that we encountered."

Ahram is reporting that Cairo criminal court has postponed the first session in the retrial of Al-Jazeera journalists and releases all defendants pending trial.

Judges ordered the release of Egyptian-Canadian Al-Jazeera journalist Mohamed Fahmy on bail $33,000 bail.

The rest of the defendants were released without bail. I wish this will just end. Just last week Peter Greste was released and deported back to Australia after 400 days. Egypt gives Africa a real bad name. It should just be a middle eastern terrorist country for all I care!

My friend at heart. What I wrote to MTV, VH1 and BET in 2012 when she died.

"I am truly saddened and shocked to hear that Whitney died today Saturday Feb 11th 2012 at 3.55pm PT. She was a true PERSONAL friend. I met Whitney on the set of her ex-husband's reality show "Being Bobby Brown." It was at that time that I truly saw the effect of addiction on Whitney. She and I developed a friendship that was so close that she told me everything going on with her and Bobby. We became such great friends on the set. I was the only known entertainment blogger at that time in 2004 when blogging was still evolving. My former blog was ATLCelebritynews. 

On this particular day she was shooting on the set at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Buckhead, Atlanta and it was a casual set. Bobbi Kristina, her only child and even the dog was there. I have more pics but these are the only ones that came to Canada with me. It was to be the last episode of BBB reality show. The last thing I told Whitney is "Look to God and never let the Devil take over." This is the LAST time I saw her as I left Atlanta. 

I spoke to her a few times on the phone years later with the last time being August 2011 when I suggested to her to "retire" and be a Judge on X-factor, Idol or similar talent shows. In my opinion, she spiraled down after the 2010 Grammy nomination blow. Her comeback CD "I look to you" was SNUBBED. Whitney went back on drugs. Even though not confirmed yet, more than likely, people are already speculating that Whitney may have died of substance abuse or a combination of things.  

I want to remember Whitney for the song "The Greatest Love of all." She sang..... "I believe that the children are the future." May she rest in peace and may Bobbi Kristina find peace in this tragedy of losing her mom. My Pictures of Bobbi's 13th birthday party are not available as they are back overseas in my old office computer. Whitney invited me to this event too and that was the last time I physically saw her.  

Last time I saw her performing was in a video at Bobby Brown's mother Carole's funeral in 2011. Carole was once her mother-in-law. I interviewed Carole in 2005 about all the drug use in the marriage to Bobby and it was aired on an Atlanta Radio station shocking everyone when Carole said that Whitney introduced her son to "white powders" referring to cocaine and heroin. Carole stated that Bobby was only into weed.
Shame I missed her Toronto visit a few years ago. Now hearing from Jimmy Jam (Academy Chair) that the whole production of the show is changing drastically. Jennifer Hudson and a few others are planning to sing her songs in a tribute. There is not much time and everyone is scheduled to be at the Clive Davis party. TRULY SAD!"

Today Krissy is fighting for her life. Bobby Kristina should be in your prayers as well as Grandma Cissy Houston. There is GOD!
