#HNNReligion Nigeria's FAVE POPE becomes a SAINT!

Did you know I once presented Pope John Paul II with flowers during a trip to Nigeria and even reunited with the Holy Father in Baltimore, Maryland my American hometown in the 90's? Our fave Pope was canonized today and now he is a SAINT along with another Pope! He did so much for the world, even took a bullet. #NuffSaid!

Pope Francis was, unusually, joined by emeritus Pope Benedict XVI, his predecessor who resigned last year. The former German pontiff's presence had been uncertain due to ill health.

The other unprecedented aspect of the event was the canonisation of both John Paul II and John XXIII at the same time. Beatified in 2011, the Polish pope had been on a record-quick path to sainthood since his death in 2005, when pilgrims at his funeral shouted 'Santo Subito!' ('Saint Immediately!').

John XXIII, however, the Italian pontiff from 1958 to 1963 who called the revolutionary Second Vatican Council, had not been expected to be recognised as a saint imminently as he lacked the second miracle usually required.

"He changed the political situation not just in Poland but in the whole world. We are that generation for whom that means a lot," he said.

Asked about criticism from the victims of clerical sex abuse who argue Wojtyla did not act quickly enough to curb the actions of paedophile priests, Gretka said he did not think this should be a stumbling block to sainthood.

Tell me about your life before stardom and what challenges you faced before becoming Avril

I was born and raised in Nakuru — a small town. Coming to Nairobi made me open my eyes to endless opportunities and challenges such as being in an industry where everything was sort of ruled by men, and it still is.

How did you realise that you could sing?

I have always been on stage from when I was a young girl but I discovered and professionally started singing after doing a couple of background vocals for a number of artists while I was still at Ogopa Djs.

How do you define yourself now after the success?

I define myself as an artiste who has managed to explore the arts from different angles having ventured into music and drama as well.

How different is Avril from Nyambura?

Avril is an act; Nyambura is a real person. Avril has to smile regardless of what is happening in her life but Nyambura gets to break down when she is behind closed doors, if she has to.

What is the craziest thing that you have done to get what you want?

I happen to be a very reserved and conservative person so I hardly do anything crazy. If something is not working I do not look for extreme solutions. I just make sure I work very hard to achieve whatever I want. I have never been handed anything on a silver platter in my life, and I never expect it, so I work.

Was there a time when you were a lesbian as per the rumour mill?

No.

How has the industry changed you?

The industry or any business, for that matter, does not change anyone; it just amplifies the person inside. The people and company you keep is what changes you for the better or worse. I try very hard to stay around people who impact my life positively and open my eyes to things that make sense.

Have you done things that you’d have imagined?

Yes, I am. I never thought I would be an actress.

What is the wrong perception that people make of you?

I wouldn’t know because those are their perceptions. Most of the time you will not know what people think of you because they behave differently when they are around you.

How do you feel when most people see you to a sex symbol?

It is normal for a singer or performing artist to be seen that way so I use it to my advantage. Sex appeal is important for anyone who is in the public eye, it evens works for presidents.

What next for you?

Entrepreneurship, hopefully being a wife and mother and even a better musician and actress .

Justin Bieber's latest run in with the authorities occurred as soon as he landed on American soil on Thursday, when the 20-year-old Canadian singer was detained at LAX.

Bieber was questioned by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officials at Los Angeles International Airport from a trip to Asia, however no formal action was taken.

He was released after three to four hours, a spokesperson for Bieber told The Hollywood Reporter.

I bet you it's because of those pending court cases and that is just standard routine.

Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne has defended the Japanese-themed music video for her new song Hello Kitty after she was accused of racism.

The Sk8er Boi hitmaker released a teaser for the promo online on Tuesday, and the clip features Lavigne in a candy store as four expressionless Asian girls pose as her backing dancers, exaggerating Japan's kawaii (cute) culture.

The footage quickly became a talking point on Twitter.com, with some critics accusing the star of using racial stereotypes. Hours after the release, the hashtag #avrilracist became a trending topic on the social media site.

Lavigne was left baffled by the allegations and took to her own Twitter page on Wednesday to explain her decision to focus on Japanese culture.

Atlanta Rapper Future recently spoke to the AJC's Melissa Ruggieri in the studio about EVERYTHING! Future is like one of those Tuface, T.I types with kids everywhere but he takes good care of his pumpkins. One due soon with singer Ciara. below is Melissa's interview.

This is one of those inspiring stories that make your day. 

A Queens, New York woman who says her autistic son doesn't have any friends started a Facebook page for him so he could receive happy birthday wishes. Brenda Figueroa said her son, Joshua, turned 12 years old Tuesday. She said on Facebook that her son, who loves comic books, science-fiction stories and drawing, didn't have any friends, and she was sad about that. Joshua told NBC 4 New York that he gets nervous when trying to talk to new people. 

"When I'm trying to make friends, sometimes the kids ignore me," he said. His father said other kids often just don't understand how to connect with Joshua. "They see him one way, but they don't understand his behavior or attitude sometimes in certain situations," he said. His mother said on Facebook that her role is to see that he is loved "by precious people." So she started the page on Monday. 

By Tuesday afternoon, he had dozens of friends and many birthday greetings. "Happy birthday Joshua and many more," said one. "Hope you have a wonderful birthday!!!!" said another.

Social Media has helped my son Eni and this is the key to Joshua's social interaction. When he turns 13, maybe he can get his own personal page with friends. Watch my appearance on MITV Nigeria speaking about that.
