#Nigerian Ministerial list to be released this week #HNNGov

The list of ministerial-nominees, to constitute the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari, is ready.

The Senate may get a letter from the President, requesting the confirmation of the nominees on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Buhari, who was inaugurated the President on May 29, had promised to name members of his cabinet in September.

He had at different times said he was in search of Nigerians with integrity to be part of his team that would reposition the country.

There has been anxiety that the President may not be able to meet the September deadline as he was quoted recently as saying that the month was running to an end too fast for his liking.

There are indications, however, emerged that Buhari, who is currently attending the 70th United Nations General Assembly in New York, had concluded work on the list.

The list may be presented to the Senate before October 1.

While reacting to a report on an online medium that Buhari had sent one of his National Assembly Liaison Officers, Senator Ita Enang, back to Nigeria with the list meant for the Senate, presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, told reporters in New York on Monday that he would not be surprised if the list was ready.

He said it was within the timeline given by the President himself.

“I will not be surprised if the list is ready because it is within the timeline that the President gave. He said he will name his cabinet in September. Today (Monday) is September 28, so if it happens that it is ready, it is within the timeline,” Adesina said.

When asked to give an insight into the number of nominees on the list, the presidential spokesman simply said, “The constitution already gives you an idea of the number of people that can be on the cabinet because it stipulates that we must have at least one minister per state.”

#BREAKING Bobbi Kristina's death cause determined but not released yet due to this reason #HNNmemorial

The Associated Press reports that the cause of Bobbi Kristina Brown's death has been determined, but the medical examiner's office won't publicly unveil autopsy results because of a court order.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner said in a statement Sunday their office is not releasing details because of a Fulton County Superior Court order to seal the results. The 22-year-old Brown died in hospice care July 26.

Brown was the only daughter between Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston.

The Fulton County district attorney and Roswell Police Department have been notified of the findings.

Brown was found face-down and unresponsive in a bathtub Jan. 31. She was found in the townhome she shared with Nick Gordon, whom Houston raised as her own.

A police report earlier this year described the incident as a drowning.

I am so scared to hear the cause. I attended Krissy's 13th and 16th birthday and watched these milestones of her life and also had to live to see her die! So pathethic and I hope she was not MURDERED!

A Saudi Prince was arrested in #LosAngeles for trying to force worker to perform Oral Sex #HNNCrime

Al Jazeera and Reuters Reports

A Saudi prince has been arrested on charges of trying to force a worker at a Beverly Hills estate to perform oral sex, Los Angeles police said on Thursday.

Majed Abdulaziz Al-Saud, 28, was arrested on Wednesday and released on $300,000 bond the next day, according to police and online jail records.

The Los Angeles Police Department's special consul division said the prince does not have diplomatic immunity, according to the Los Angeles Times and KCBS-TV.

Police descended on the massive estate after a neighbor saw a bleeding woman screaming for help as she tried to scale the property’s surrounding wall on Wednesday, the Times reported.

The $37 million home, in one of the most exclusive enclaves in the world, has been rented for weeks at a time by foreign nationals over the past year, neighbor Tennyson Collins told the Times.

The biggest nuisance attributed to the renters so far have been a few loud parties, Collins told the paper.

The prince is expected to appear in court Oct. 19, court records show. Attempts to reach him by telephone were unsuccessful, and his attorney was not immediately known. A call to the Saudi embassy was not immediately returned.

Chicago station apologizes for using #Nazi image in Yom Kippur story #HNNImpact

A screenshot of the TV news broadcast.

A Chicago news station used a graphic of a yellow badge, like those the Nazis forced Jews to wear during the Holocaust, to illustrate its report on the start of Yom Kippur.

WGN-TV aired the report on Tuesday night, hours into the Jewish Day of Atonement. The badge — shaped like the Star of David and featuring the word “Jude,” German for “Jew” — appeared atop concentration-camp-uniform stripes, and above the caption “Yom Kippur.”

Viewers quickly responded on social media.

WGN sought atonement for the graphic on Wednesday. The anchor who delivered the the Yom Kippur report said on air:

“Major correction tonight: We couldn’t see this from the set here, but in our story about Yom Kippur we apparently used a symbol that is extremely offensive to the Jewish community. We mistakenly showed a symbol used by Nazi Germany to identify Jews. We deeply apologize for that error.”

The station also apologized on Twitter, and at length on its website.

To our WGN News Viewers,

"Last night we ran a story to recognize Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement. The artwork chosen to accompany the story came from a graphics image bank.

Regrettably, we failed to recognize that the image was an offensive Nazi symbol.
We are extremely embarrassed and we deeply apologize to our viewers and to the Jewish community for this mistake.

Ignorance is not an excuse.

Please know we are reviewing our in house policies and changes have already been made to make sure a hurtful oversight like this never happens again.

Thank you for your understanding. We promise to do better."

Student 'accused of being a terrorist' for reading book on terrorism #HNNTerror

Mohammed Umar Farooq in Stoke on Trent
Mohammed Umar Farooq (Guardian)
A postgraduate student of counter-terrorism was falsely accused of being a terrorist after an official at Staffordshire University had spotted him reading a textbook entitled Terrorism Studies in the college library.

Mohammed Umar Farooq, who was enrolled in the Terrorism, crime and global security master’s programme, told the Guardian that he was questioned about attitudes to homosexuality, Islamic State (Isis) and al-Qaida.

Farooq’s replies, he said, were largely “academic” but he stressed his personal opposition to extremist views. However, the conversation in the library was reported by the official to security guards, because it had raised “too many red flags” .

“I could not believe it. I was reading an academic textbook and minding my own business. At first I thought I’d just laugh it off as a joke,” said Farooq, who then instructed a lawyer to help him challenge and rebut the claims.

Volkswagen started recalling diesel cars in April but didn't tell anyone #HNNEnvironment

I hear US owners were asked to go in to their dealers for a software update. Should this have been covered up?
Regulators' growing suspicions about the accuracy of the vehicles' emissions tests prompted Volkswagen to issue a recall of its diesel powered cars in April, four months before the emissions scandal that culminated in the firing of the Volkswagen CEO on Wednesday.

Volkswagen's US arm wrote to car owners in the US state telling them of an “emissions service action” needed on their vehicles, Reuters said.

They were asked to go to a dealer for a software update to ensure exhausts were “optimised and operating efficiently”.

Was Awolowo's daughter referring to Osinbajo as NEXT PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA? #HNNPolitics

Omotola Oyediran

Mrs Tola Oyediran far right
Eldest daughter of the late Chief Hannah Dideolu Awolowo, Rev. (Mrs) Omotola Oyediran, yesterday in Ikenne, Ogun State declared that a descendant of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo will one day become the president of Nigeria.

Mrs. Oyediran said she used to make it a point of duty to pray daily for a descendant of their father, who was the first premier of the old Western Region, to occupy the highest political office in the land, but stopped doing so at a point for reasons she did not know.

She made the declaration while receiving members of the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) led by former governor of the old Western Region, General Adeyinka Adebayo (retd.), which paid a condolence visit to the country home of the Awolowos in Ikenne.

The daughter of the late matriarch, however, expressed firm belief that one day her prayer would be answered. Trust her, she was prolly referring to the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who will probably be President when Buhari exits due to old age or a 2019 loss. lolz.

AN 'AMERICAN HERO': Yogi Berra, beloved Hall-of-Fame Yankee catcher dead at 90 #HNNSports

It’s over.

For the millions of friends and fans of Yogi Berra, beloved American icon, Hall-of-Fame Yankee catcher and unintentional world philosopher, these are the saddest of possible words: It’s over.

Berra, who played on a record 10 Yankee world championship teams and 14 All-Star teams, won three American League Most Valuable Player awards, had two terms as Yankee manager and one with the Mets and coined dozens of goofy-sounding but aptly true sayings termed “Yogi-isms” such as “When you come to the fork in the road, take it” and “It ain’t over ‘til it’s over," died Tuesday. He was 90.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of a Yankees legend and American hero, Yogi Berra," the Yankees tweetedearly Wednesday morning. Just four months earlier,Berra had celebrated his 90th birthday.

Twitter mocks Brian Williams’ coverage of the Pope #HNNMedia

As Brian Williams returned to TV Tuesday with coverage of Pope Francis’ first U.S. visit, Twitter poked fun of the lying anchor’s history of “misremembering” stories.

With the hashtag #BrianWilliamsPopeStories, users shared exaggerated stories of the news anchor and the pontiff. Meanwhile, Williams kept his real coverage on MSNBC strictly focused on the Pope’s visit, failing to mention the lies that kept him off the air for six months. He nearly fired after an internal investigation found at least 11 instances in which Williams embellished details of stories involving himself — but was instead punished with a suspension.

Pope Francis landed in Washington D.C. Tuesday and will head to New York Thursday. He’ll make a stop in Philadelphia before heading home to Rome on Sunday.

Sick ISIS terrorists have burned four men to death in their latest graphic video

The brutal militant group released the video of the four Iraqis' deaths after accusing them of spying for rival Shiite militia.

The men are seen stating their names and alleged crimes on camera before being chained around their wrists and ankles and suspended in the air. A line of fuel has been poured underneath the blindfolded men and masked militants set fire to their captives in the Iraq’s western Anbar province. The gruesome video shows slow motion footage as the fire burns up the fuel and the men are agonizingly burnt to death, the Independent reports.

My friend October's very Own @Drake leads the pack at the 2015 BET #HIPHOP awards coming in October! #HNNMusic

From the day I met Drake on the Beyonce concert line in 2007 at Molson Amphitheater in Toronto, Canada, he was just a Degrassi actor. He gave me a demo and I posted it on HipHossip my old music blog. I supported these upcoming artists a lot in Canada and they all blew up now. So it's no surprise he's leading the BET noms again. October's very own should win em all this October.

Hip-Hop’s fiercest lyricists will come together for the BET Hip-Hop awards to see who will earn the crown and who will go home empty handed.

The nominees were revealed Monday (September 14) with Drake and Big Sean leading the pack with 12 and 10 nominations respectively. Future’s three-peat mixtapes Monster, Beast Mode and 56 Nights all earned the Future Hive leader nods for the “Best Mixtape” category. Bobby Shmurda will compete with Dej Loaf, Tink, Fetty Wap and Rae Sremmurd for the “Who Blew Up Award” and Wale’s The Album About Nothing, will go up against Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive, K.Dot’s To Pimp A Butterfly, Nicki Minaj’s The PinkPrint and Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.

The category which will cause the most debate is “Lyricist of The Year.” Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, Big Sean, Drake and Nicki Minaj will all battle it out for the coveted award, which will most certainly spark many barbershop conversations about “real rap” and inspire a think piece or two from your friendly hip-hop blogger.

Peep the full list of nominees below. The BET Hip-Hop awards airs Tuesday, October 13.
Congrats to all the nominees.

The Happy Birthday Song LOSES it's copyright. We can now all sing it for FREE! #HNNBirthday

Credits Pixels Photography
I didn't even know anyone owned that song!

Looks like everyone can now sing the "Happy Birthday" song for free.

In a surprise ruling Tuesday U.S. District Court Judge George H. King granted summary judgment to filmmakers like director Jennifer Nelson who challenged Warner Chappel's decades-old copyright claims to one of the best-known English-language tunes.

Warner Chappel reportedly earns about $2 million annually in royalties on public performances of the song since the company acquired Birch Tree Group, the successor to Clayton Summy Co., the song's original copyright owner.

King ruled that a copyright filed by the Summy Co. in 1935 granted only the rights to specific arrangements of the music, not the actual song itself. "Because Summy Co. never acquired the rights to the Happy Birthday lyrics, Defendants, as Summy Co.'s purported successors-in-interest, do not own a valid copyright in the Happy Birthday lyrics," he said in his opinion.
