One of the most high profile and notorious murders in the music business remains that of Christopher Wallace aka Notorious BIG. I was at the Soul Train After party during the early hours of March 9th 1997 when shots rang out and people ran in different directions. It was the car carrying Diddy!! I was stunned to see these huge bullets pierce the larger than life rapper and slump him down at the prime of his life. Biggie was gone by the time they got to the hospital. There was no Twitter, Facebook, just MySpace which was the only social media then. I had 100,000 friends. There was no HipHossip but I was just a music fan who loved reporting music and just graduated broadcasting school though my beat was health. We only had radio and CNN. It happened in the middle of the night. Clubgoers picked the news up in their car radios and broke down.This changed everything for me. Biggie left behind a small family including his wife singer Faith Evans, their son Chris Junior and his daughter from a previous relationship Tyanna.

Since Biggie's murder there has been several rappers shot and killed. The violence in hip-hop has become beyond anything I could Imagine. Lets drop the guns, stop the violence and get ready to be part of the HipHossip Music Foundation, using music to END GUN VIOLENCE! Ironically his second album, tentatively named "Life After Death... 'Til Death Do Us Part", later shortened to Life After Death was named after a car accident Wallace was involved in that shattered his left leg and temporarily confined him to a wheelchair forcing him to use that fashionable cane, something many of his fans didn't even realize. If you are turning Sweet 16 this year and you are a hip-hop fan, Know what happened 16 years ago today. His song with the chorus, "I'm going to Cali Cali" haunts me to this date. Born in Brooklyn, DIED in Cali!
