MTV is reporting that Katy Perry has been crowned Billboard magazine's Woman Of The Year 2012.

Following in the footsteps of Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Black Eyed Peas star Fergie, the publication's editorial director Bill Werde described K-Pez as "one of the most exciting and inspiring artists in the industry."

He continued: "Katy Perry broke into the industry not even five years ago, and has already accomplished more than most artists can hope for in an entire career.

"We are thrilled to celebrate these incredible achievements and her amazing past 12 months by presenting her with the Billboard 'Woman Of The Year' Award."

Werde added: "With what seems like a never-ending supply of record-breaking, chart-topping hits, coupled with her unique and fresh style, Katy Perry is hands-down one of the most exciting and inspiring artists in the industry today."

Katy will now officially receive the award at the Billboard Women in Music event in New York City on 30th November.

BREAKING NEWS: RUSSELL BRAND FILES DIVORCE FROM KATY PERRY.

Reuters reports that U.K. actor/comedian Russell Brand filed for divorce on Friday from his singer wife Katy Perry after just over a year of marriage. This news came just a few weeks after Brand vigorously denied rumours the couple was splitting up.

Brand, 36, star of the movie Get Him to the Greek and Forgetting Sarah Marshal, andCalifornia Gurls singer Perry, 27, met in 2008 and married on October 23, 2010, becoming one of the most high-profile couples in the entertainment industry.

But their marriage has been in trouble for several weeks, according to celebrity media. They spent the Christmas holidays apart, with Brand being photographed in England and Perry spotted in Hawaii — both without their wedding rings.

Brand filed divorce papers in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday citing irreconcilable differences.

“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends,” Brand said in a statement on Friday.

Lets look at it this way, still beats Kim Kardashian 74 days and even Sinead O'Connor 16 days. They were married for 14 months in an elaborate Indian wedding complete with elephants and all. KJ says she needs to go back running into Travie McCoy's arms. You know Travie's KJ's pal.

KATY PERRY AND RUSSELL BRAND'S WEDDING TO LAST 7 DAYS.

RUSSELL BRAND and KATY PERRY are planning a week of wedding celebrations in October (10) - their nuptials will stretch over seven days. The British funnyman proposed to the singer on New Year's Eve (31Dec09) during a romantic trip to India, and the couple is rumoured to be planning to return to the country to marry later this year (10). The couple has now reportedly sent out 'Save The Date' cards to their friends and family, and one of the invitations has been obtained by Britain's News of the World tabloid.

The card, which features a picture of Indian henna hand art, urges guests to "Save The Week for the wedding of Katy and Russell" from 18 to 25 October (10) and reveals attendees "will need a passport". The invite also states guests "will be contacted soon with more information".
Perry has stated the couple is planning a "small" wedding, insisting she doesn't want the ceremony to turn into a "drunk fest of people."

She tells the publication, "We don't want it to be a drunk fest of people, just one night and then forgetting about it. We want it to be about love. The wedding will be small. I always have a ton of people around me and I think the people that are going to share this moment with us are the people we want to integrate into each other's lives."

Pop star KATY PERRY was left red-faced during a recent photoshoot - after a chimpanzee urinated on her. The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker was modelling outfits by designer Jeremy Scott when the embarrassing incident occurred. She writes on her blog, "Jeremy Scott is one of my all time favorites and he shot the pictures while I got to prance around in his creations. I had a chimp on set with me that day. Fun fact, she peed all over me, I had to take a silkwood shower in the middle of shooting."

Katy Perry Picks Death Over Celibacy!

She had a hit – and a Grammy nomination – with a song called "I Kissed a Girl." So, who would expect Katy Perry to abstain from all things amorous?

"I am not going to be celibate," Perry, 24, said with a laugh during a conference call with reporters on Thursday. "That was a joke, and any fine journalist would have got that."

Perry was referring to an interview she gave in which she said she had taken a vow of celibacy in 2009 after splitting with rocker boyfriend Travis McCoy.

"Please," she now says, "celibacy for the whole year? I'd rather die."

Still, the singer, who describes herself as a "prankster and a jokester," says she may be less active.

Katy Perry has split from her boyfriend Travis McCoy. The 'I Kissed A Girl' singer - who had been dating the Gym Class Heroes frontman for two years - has ended their relationship after months of troubles. A source told Britain's News of the World newspaper: "It's sad, but they were fighting a lot in recent months because they never saw each other. "When somebody becomes very famous very quickly their relationship usually suffers. She's going through such a huge time at the moment so needs to be on her own."

Devastated Travis - who has previously claimed his relationship with Katy brought him back from the brink during a self-destructive time in his life - has been posting lyrics by hip-hop act Main Source on his on his personal blog to express his upset. They read: "We fight every night, now that's not kosher. I reminisce with bliss of when we was closer." He adds: "My laptop is my new b***h, LOYAL, LISTENS, and NEVER LETS ME DOWN!"

Singer KATY PERRY has blasted reports she has gone under the knife to enhance her chest, insisting she has better things to spend her money on. The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker, who is dating Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis McCoy, was rumoured to have recently had a boob job. But Perry has denied the claims - insisting she would rather spend her money on fashion than plastic surgery.

Speaking to British newspaper The Sun, she says: "They are as real as real can be. One hundred per cent genuine and untouched... well sort of. "I would never spend money on fake boobs. Shoes, maybe. A handbag, maybe. But plastic tits - no way!"

KATY PERRY USES NEW ALBUM TO GET BACK AT EX-BOYFRIENDS.

Katy Perry uses her new album to get back at her ex-boyfriends. On her LP 'One of the Boys' Katy makes fun of several former lovers, even laughing about the size of one's manhood on 'Ur So Gay'. Katy told Britain's Daily Star newspaper:

"I had some fun with 'Ur So Gay', it's also about guys with guy-liner that use flat irons. It's just a saying. It's like calling someone a 'b***h.' You're like, 'Hey, b***h'. It just felt appropriate."

The 23-year-old singer has also laughed off claims her lyrics are homophobic, saying she thinks the gay community will "embrace" her songs. She added:

"I think gay people have a wonderful sense of humour. I think they'll get it and embrace it. "It's an anthem for power of the people - for females, gays, exes, anybody who's been broken up with that wants to get over a guy."

Katy has also reacted to reports her parents - both strict Christian ministers - are upset about her racy lyrics. Katy added:

"I'm sure they opt out of singing 'I Kissed a Girl' or 'Ur So Gay', but they're singing along to every other song on the record. They're just glad I'm not strung out, doing centrefolds and s**t like that."

Earlier this week, Katy's mother Mary Hudson branded her daughter's hit single 'I Kissed a Girl' as "shameful and disgusting". Mary said: "I can't even listen to that song. The first time I heard it I was in total shock. It promotes homosexuality and its message is shameful and disgusting. When it comes on the radio I bow my head and pray. "She is our daughter and we love her but we strongly disagree with how she is conducting herself and she knows how disappointed we are." 'One of the Boys' is out in the UK on September 15.

The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker, who hosted the ceremony in Liverpool, England, reportedly became angry when she saw some girls touching the Gym Class Heroes frontman's piercings and tattoos.

According to British tabloid reports, Perry glared at the girls before saying, "Why don't you whores just p**s off?" But the singer need not have worried about McCoy cheating on her - because he is totally besotted with Perry. KATY PERRY SAYS SHE IS HURT BY THE FUROR OVER THIS PICTURE!

Pop star KATY PERRY insists she was "hurt" by the recent furor over a controversial promotional photo showing her holding a knife. The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker provoked outrage in the U.K. after snaps intended for her album, One For The Boys, surfaced last month (Oct08). Anti-crime protesters in Britain slammed the singer, branding her "out of her mind" and her behaviour "unacceptable".

Perry hit back, claiming she is "against all violence" and alleging the photo was several years old. And now she has spoken out about all the trouble caused by the picture insisting she was deeply upset by the ensuing row. She says,

"I was misrepresented because it was taken three or four years ago. It wasn't something I was trying to hide. "Of course I'm a pop girl and I wanna make people happy, so it hurt me to be connected to something that is really a big deal in the U.K. right now. "I don't care if people make fun of me. KATY PERRY SLAMMED BY ANTI-KNIFE ACTIVISTS!

KATY PERRY has been blasted for posing with a knife for a promotional picture intended for her album artwork. The I Kissed A Girl held a blade up to her face in a publicity shot for her 2008 release One For The Boys. Although the snap didn't make the final cut for her LP sleeve, it has enraged anti-violence protesters in Britain, as London is experiencing a record number of knife-related attacks.

Richard Taylor, who has campaigned against knife crime since his ten-year-old son was stabbed to death in the capital in 2000, says,

"This woman's behaviour is unacceptable. She must be out of her mind to pose for a picture like this. "There is nothing glamorous about knives - they wreck families. Any youngsters seeing her will think it is OK to carry a blade."

The picture was apparently intended to portray Perry as "edgy", according to sources on the shoot: "The knife picture was done to give Katy more of a sexy, harder edge. But in the end it wasn't picked as a main shot for her album or website."

PERRY: 'WINEHOUSE AND ALLEN INTRODUCED AMERICA TO GREAT MUSIC.'

AMY WINEHOUSE and LILY ALLEN are responsible for the new wave of female artists in the charts, according to pop star KATY PERRY. The 23-year-old's hit song I Kissed A Girl topped the U.S. and U.K. singles charts earlier this year (08) and she believes stars such as Winehouse and Allen paved the way for her success.

She says, "I think there's a healthy dose of estrogen in the world today. Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen have definitely helped with that. They have introduced America to great music."

She says she owes her success to FREDDIE MERCURY - because he inspired her to become a star. The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker looked up to Mercury - who died in 1991 - from a young age and cites his no-nonsense attitude as a big influence.

Perry says, "Freddie Mercury from Queen was - and remains - my biggest influence.

"The combination of his sarcastic approach to writing lyrics and his 'I don't give a f**k' attitude really inspired my music."
