OPINION: #CONTROVERSY Why I did NOT attend the @Broadawards for New Media Professionals.cc: @KemiOlunloyo

PLS READ regarding tonight's @BroadAwards at Eko Hotel in #Lagos. I am NOT attending for personal reasons. There has been a very bad mistake in organization and execution of dynamics. Although many of you know me as a Pharmacy Doctor and International Journalist, some of you here know me also know me as a US trained PR Specialist that organized #Grammy #Oscars and other award Afterparties in my North American days. I commend Nigerians who work hard to put these events together and their sponsors but I was written and told that I was going to be honored as Africa's Innovative Online Newsroom. I promoted the event on my online portals, many of you even said you nominated me in that category out of the 30 and I thanked you.

To my shock, I contacted one of the organizers on my letter who told me her boss said I must pay N100,000 for a table of 10. I am not going to an award with 10 people. I have no friends in Nigeria as such let alone go to an event with them like that. Only been here 16 months in 37 years and still travel back and forth. In all the awards I have been given in my life, including one from a US Governor, Mayor and President Bill Clinton, Congress and Senate plus also a Canadian law enforcement association, I have NEVER had to PAY to attend a place where I'm being honored. I keep it real, I am honest to the core, I don't keep secrets or hide my feelings but if this is how you do things in Nigeria, It is NOT professional. The sponsors in that letter should be enough to pay my hotel and transportation which is all I ask for since I am a rights managed global media personality. I am not a celebrity.

I regard myself as a Public figure and media personality and never sell myself cheap. Most Nigerians want to meet me but my popularity is not cheap and I am not a red carpet urchin. It will come in due time and I am the ONLY Nigerian public figure with a hometown fan page for people that see me DAILY. I care about my fans tremendously. Several media outlets contacted me tonight, I am NOT there!! I am in Ibadan. My agent in Toronto said their boss said everyone must PAY and his secretary Ify texted me to confirm that. They no longer returned my calls.

Nothing more hurt me more than being shortlisted as a Citizen Journalist Blog in the nominations providing NewsYoung Africans. I am an award winning INDEPENDENT Journalist and not a Citizen Journalist Blog. #HNNAfrica is WORLD NEWS 4 YOUNG AFRICANS. I spend a lot of Time and Integrity on my blog especially from what it evolved from HipHossip Music Blog coined as Canada's Leading Music Blog 2007-2012 before I rebranded it to HipHossip NewsNet #HNNAfrica

My spot in the Online newsroom shortlist was REPLACED by Sahara Reporters a real Citizen Journalism website!! Maybe Sowore paid for the table, but it's not important to me anymore. I was in a category with Omojuwa and another citizen like blog and that tells you I won't be winning that plus if I were a Judge, I will be giving that to Omojuwa who has really engaged citizens in talking about the issues. I created a news product that I feel can touch every young African who is not good with World current affairs and how it affects them. I left the Nigerian Tribune to dedicate my time on this.

I learn from every experience in Nigeria and I keep it moving.

#Canadian #Rocker Neil Young RIPS Keystone Pipeline in Fort McMurray. Says it looks like Hiroshima!

Canadian rocker Neil Young is wading into the heated debate over the oil sands and the proposed Keystone XL pipeline, warning of the health effects on First Nations peoples and the “wasteland” that is Fort McMurray.

Mr. Young, one of Canada’s best-known singer-songwriters since the 1960s, told an event in Washington yesterday that he recently travelled to Alberta, where “much of the oil comes from, much of the oil that we’re using here, which they call ethical oil because it’s not from Saudi Arabia or some country that may be at war with us.”

He was at a National Farmers Union event on Capitol Hill meant to support alternative fuels, such as ethanol, which he did at length, slamming Big Oil and talk about his own LincVolt, an old Continental that runs on ethanol and electricity.

Here’s what he said about the oil sands:

“The fact is, Fort McMurray looks like Hiroshima. Fort McMurray is a wasteland. The Indians up there and the native peoples are dying. The fuels all over – the fumes everywhere – you can smell it when you get to town. The closest place to Fort McMurray that is doing the tar sands work is 25 or 30 miles out of town and you can taste it when you get to Fort McMurray. People are sick. People are dying of cancer because of this. All the First Nations people up there are threatened by this.”

I met Neil on the red carpet at the 40th Junos and was really flattered that I wanted to greet him and stopped everything just to take a picture with me. He keep it real. Read the rest here.

#MEDIANEWS: THE UNTOLD TRUTH ABOUT NIGERIAN BLOGGER LINDA IKEJI. FOR HER FANS ATTACKING ME ON TWITTER THAT DON'T KNOW HER?

Linda Ikeji is a popular blogger in the Nigerian entertainment scene. I never met her till I spotted her walk past the red carpet at Darey's LLAM show. She did not stop to talk to any media outlet. Many of you began attacking me because I asked on twitter "Who is Linda Ikeji as in making me famous. She can make ppl famous in Nigeria but I'm a top blogger myself in US and Canada?" Some of you heard what I said about her on Splash 105.5FM Ibadan last week during my interview on Bullseye with Nike Adewuyi. I kept it real.

I clearly told Nike that Linda did NOT make me famous in any way. She writes the same story everyone floods the Internet with. By now you should have noticed that she is not the only blogger writing about me. But to read people asking me if I really know who she is and cursing me all along, maybe I should wake up the sleeping dogs. Linda blogged one particular story about me when I said there is no poverty in Nigeria, she specifically said she did not know who I was. She may not know me personally but she knows the name back in 2006.

Linda Ikeji is also a home wrecker! On the woman who "stole" my junior cousin's then fiance Dan Foster formerly of Cool FM a month before their wedding. Deola Olunloyo ended the relationship with Dan Foster and my dad and other family members had to cancel a lot of expensive wedding expenditure. After Deola moved on, she continued her work as an internationally recognized Journalist expertise in HIV education. Linda went ahead and dated Dan and was later dumped. She spoke about how miserable she was to the Punch newspapers. You cannot be happy when you wreck someone else's home.

Sources from Dan's camp told me that he regretted his actions and has moved on. Dan went ahead and married his current wife Lovina and they have 3 lovely children. He now works at Inspiration FM.

What Linda did is not new. I responded to her in a 2006 issue of Global Excellence magazine that home wrecking was not a kind thing. Dan was considered a weak man to me. If he had even asked for his fiance's forgiveness is one thing but to now turn around and openly date Linda was another.  Many of you do not know these FACTUAL stories. Recently I was told by other sources in the shady Nigerian blogging industry that she was responsible for the break up of Nigerian Rapper Ikechukwu and his girlfriend allegedly accusing the girl of sleeping with D'Banj, something I did not get into.

Like I said on the radio yesterday, Linda is making money building her brand and I am doing the same. She initiated a convo with Kola Boof and I not aware that I know Kola as American blogger Sandra Rose's frenemy. Kola realized that later and had no idea she was talking to me on twitter (that Kemi) while Linda thought she was blogging a twitter beef. As a result, Kola blocked her tweets and protected them from Linda and several Nigerians.

She has never in anyway made me famous. My deportation from Canada made me famous and the works I did abroad in ending gun violence and drug abuse. Pls put your money where your mouth is. This is an advice for Linda's fan. I am a professional blogger since 1999 and a Journalist. Even Perez Hilton makes $67Million a year and far more than us and does not play these antics.

All the Top Bloggers in America looked up to me as a role model from their humble beginnings and I respected them too. From Soul Train and BET award winning ones to just plain high traffic ones. Blogging is about writing original stories on a WEBLOG. I started in 1999 when the Pyra template was used before Google bought it and renamed it blogger

Sahara Reporters has uncovered a document indicating that a million dollars of Bayelsa State’s poverty alleviation fund was spent by then Governor Goodluck Jonathan on bringing American entertainers Beyonce and Jay Z to Nigeria in 2006.

In a letter stamped and signed by Bayelsa officials, N150 million (approximately a million dollars in 2006) was released from the state’s poverty alleviation fund for the first ThisDay Music Festival in Lagos.

The document came to light after a controversy was ignited over how much money American “reality TV” star Kim Kardashian was paid for a brief visit to Nigeria.

Ms. Kardashian, star of a US TV show about her idle rich family and who shot to international fame after a sex tape featuring her and her rapper boyfriend went viral, was reportedly paid half a million dollars for the 24-hour-visit last week.

Does anyone really care 7 years later? Can we not get Bey and Jay in the Nigerian beefs that is going to cost Nigerian fans the next concert? 50 Cent got N1Million too and so what if Kim got $500,000? I am a Nigerian and many Nigerians are viewed by the international world as frauds, drug and human traffickers among other bad things. Luckily if they sell my pictures, most are with celebrities in them and will get HipHossip even more exposure to my interviews and content so send whatever pictures u are selling my way. People always share their instagram pictures anyway and I hear people BUY their way into getting on the popular page. I don't follow anyone on Instagram and the reason is personal.

Instagram said today that it has the perpetual right to sell users' photographs without payment or notification, a dramatic policy shift that quickly sparked a public outcry.

The new intellectual property policy, which takes effect on January 16, comes three months after Facebook completed its acquisition of the popular photo-sharing site. Unless Instagram users delete their accounts before the January 16th 2013 deadline, they cannot opt out.

Under the new policy, Facebook claims the perpetual right to license all public Instagram photos to companies or any other organization, including for advertising purposes, which would effectively transform the Web site into the world's largest stock photo agency. One irked Twitter userquipped that "Instagram is now the new iStockPhoto, except they won't have to pay youanything to use your images."

"It's asking people to agree to unspecified future commercial use of their photos," says Kurt Opsahl, a senior staff attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation. "That makes it challenging for someone to give informed consent to that deal."

That means that a hotel in Hawaii, for instance, could write a check to Facebook to license photos taken at its resort and use them on its Web site, in TV ads, in glossy brochures, and so on -- without paying any money to the Instagram user who took the photo. The language would include not only photos of picturesque sunsets on Waikiki, but also images of young children frolicking on the beach, a result that parents might not expect, and which could trigger state privacy laws.

Facebook did not respond to repeated queries from CNET this afternoon. We'll update the article if we receive a response.

Another policy pitfall: If Instagram users continue to upload photos after January 16, 2013, and subsequently delete their account after the deadline, they may have granted Facebook an irrevocable right to sell those images in perpetuity. There's no obvious language that says deleting an account terminates Facebook's rights, EFF's Opsahl said.

DID NICKI MINAJ THREATEN MUSLIMS?

I spotted these irate posts on Facebook today from a Matt Grosse to Nicki Minaj. The one above that from a Brayden Martinsdale even says "On behalf of CANADA"....Canada? Nicki was just here for the OVOFest last weekend!

There is some controversy going on regarding the issue of Muslims and something Nicki said. Muslims have bombarded her fan page raining curses on her. I CAN'T SEEM TO FIGURE ALL THIS OUT BUT SHE HAS CLEARLY IGNORED THE ISSUE with the fans.

WASHINGTON POST SPORTS COLUMNIST MIKE WISE SENDS OUT INSENSITIVE SUICIDE TWEET ON DEATH OF SOUL TRAIN FOUNDER DON CORNELIUS.

I just feel like Wise's "stressed out comments" were insensitive! I know so many people who were so stressed out in life, they committed suicide including several children bullied. I always tell people on the streets and online that "Suicide is never the answer."

While the whole black community on the first day of Black History Month or may I say the whole WORLD were waking up shocked to hear Don Cornelius of Soul Train's death, we were all even more shocked to hear that he shot himself dying from a self inflicted gunshot wound, taking his own life, suffering from a major health ailment (which sources tell me was a form of cancer) and even went thru a very bitter divorce at 73. At 75 Don was about my father's age. My dad will be 77, so Cornelius was like a dad to me. I knew him personally and celebrated 40 years of the brand last fall with BET and Centric. He was iconic.

The last thing I expected was a tweet by a popular Sports Columnist in one of America's most renowned newspapers, The Washington Post. Sports Columnist and Radio host Mike Wise needs to apologize to all Don's fans, family and the entire music world. He tweeted:

"In honor of Don Cornelius, I think all stressed-out corporate office in America should do their own Soul Train today."

I replied him but he did not respond. I feel if you write tweets like that, you should check your @ responses. Mike, many stressed out people do TAKE THEIR OWN LIVES, I don't think Don would have liked us to do the "Soul Train" dances today or whatever you mean by "their own Soul Train." It reminded me of the rift between Don Cornelius and Dick Clark during the competition days with American Bandstand and that copycat show "Soul Unlimited?" SMH.

Today was the day the train DERAILED! However those train tracks will always be in our memories. Have we all not seen or walk past an empty railroad track no train even uses anymore? That's how Don's DEATH feels to me. @MikeWiseGuy, your profile states that you live with your wife and "NEWBORN" son. Don was somebody's son. Just like your son is a new life to the world, Don is gone forever! That tweet is nothing close to being a "wise guy."

I am 47. My Great-Grandmother died on a Monday of Dementia. She was 90 at the time. Both my great uncles, her sons were 65 and 69 at the time and they hung themselves the same week on the Wednesday and Friday. It is a story I was told by my Grandfather, the surviving son as they loved their beloved mother. He lost 3 relatives in one week to suicide. If my Grandpa were alive today, he would have been 101. Suicide does not "run" in families. It is a HIDDEN danger and can happen to anyone....ANYTIME!

I hear Toronto 's dynamic Socialite Lisa Persaud aka Lisa Peezy is allegedly embroiled in this alleged man snatching saga. What? Will you date your friend's ex is the headline all the bloggers are posting? The stories are on Vibe online, Champ Magazine, Mediatakeout and Ohverly Critical amongst others. Bear with me I was not in my office when I heard all this and I had to call Lisa ASAP to get the real story from the horse's mouth, so I grabbed my camcorder and pointed it to the speaker phone in my bedroom. To most of us in the industry, Natalie Nunn is a reality star on the "Bad Girls Club" on Oxygen channel and she's a known good friend of Lisa's. Lisa has done quite a bit of promotion and supported Natalie's projects and career endeavours but it's only human to ask why she would now date Lisa's EX?? Natalie seems to have lived up to the reality show name. What a BAD gurl!

Lisa assisted Natalie and her Publicist with getting her into music videos like the Waka Flocka video and exposure in publications. Lisa says she broke up with her ex-cutie pie Joshua "Josh" Crockwell. Lisa stated that she had some trust and homosexuality issues with Josh and that the relationship ended more than a month ago. She's is a little shocked on what the motive was for Natalie to now turn around and date her ex-man! Look below at Josh's face as he's not liking the paparazzi's lenses...lol.

During my phone interview earlier today, she told me the truth about the saga and talked about her career. She reps us in Canada as the CIROC lady for Diddy's Vodka brand as well as being the Editor in Chief of Industry Magazine. She heads Urban promotions for Capital Prophet (CP) records, the leading independent record label in Canada which is also involved in the management of some artists too and she is also the President of well talked about Toronto/Global PR firm P.I.N.K Publicity. Lisa's life is full of projects and hard work. She says you can have a celebrity lifestyle without being scandalous, disgracing your family, sex tapes etc.

Lisa is from a rich household but went from riches to RAGS then built herself up on her own. She worked hard to where she got and sometimes reminds me of another one of my blogging sistas Nicole Bitchie who went from rags to riches thru hard work. She is celebrating the 3rd anniversary of Industry Magazine and her birthday next Tuesday at an exclusive private party in Toronto hosted by Rapper Belly. It's important for the world to know who this young lady is and not part of some "love triangle." It's not even a triangle. Lisa has moved on and the jet setter is around the world doing her thing. HipHossip has been invited to some elite celebrity events as far as Los Angeles and Miami and Lisa has had to cover some of these events for me if she were in that U.S city. I would contact her in a moment's notice. Below is my rant about Lisa's kindness and humble free help for my blog.

I couldn't locate her during the Mindless Behaviour "Mrs Right" video shoot in L.A where the boys Publicist invited HipHossip. I met my babies when they opened for Janet's tour out here in March 2011. By the time I found Lisa, video shoot was over 2 days ago, so everytime I see Diggy and the boys in that video, I always say in my mind. Where in the world WAS Carmen San Diego aka Lisa Peezy? She must have been BUSY somewhere. I can't travel much during the school year cos of KJ and Lisa is a big help.

Lisa is always helpful, a humanitarian who cares about Toronto's youth. She literally takes stars to the schools, community centers and after school programs surprising and brightening the kids days. OMG, she's is great! Lisa celebrates her 25th birthday this week and as u know we were laughing in the video when we said 21. You know she's not an underage drinker as she promotes Ciroc on the U.S side and their drinking age is 21 over there. Ours is 19. Lisa stresses responsible drinking and advises about drunk driving. You know I lost my brother at 17 in 1999 to a drunk driver who killed him at a traffic light. He would have been 29 this year.

Lovely Lisa has big things coming her way and much more to come. You never know who you may see at her parties. Drake, P.Reign, even L'il Wayne. That's how our parties go around here in Toronto and the party never stops. Even at 47 as the Queen of Music Media, I still enjoy these events that Lisa throws, except that I am now in da club with my older babies, my 27, 24 and 20 year old sons...lol. She just made an appearance on a reality show coming in September 2011 that we are looking forward to. WAS RIHANNA SNUBBED BY MTV'S VMA PANEL?

I personally feel MTV dealt a blow to my 23-year-old pop star adopted daughter, Rihanna when the network released its nominations for the 2011 MTV VMA Awards a few days ago. Rihanna received only two nominations for guest appearances on Kanye West’s “All Of The Lights” and Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie.” She did not get any nominations for "What's my name?", "Man Down", "California King Bed" and "Only Girl in the world."

I personally like RiRi's own videos rather than the guest ones. That Oh nana one with Drake should have gotten a nomination as well as "Man Down" which had a strong message we haven't seen in a video in a long time. Oh well, shyt happens. I guess we can expect a no show at the awards but a show up at the afterparty...just like she did at the 2011 BET awards.

MTV STANDS BY TEEN DRAMA "SKINS."

MTV bosses have dismissed speculation they are set to pull controversial teen drama SKINS off-air following protests from a campaign group and the loss of a number of advertisers.
The U.S. adaptation of the hit British series premiered in America last week (17Jan11), but the scandalous storylines involving sex and drugs have angered heads of the Parents Television Council, who condemned the show and called for an official investigation.

The controversy has also led to a number of high profile advertisers pulling their promos from the programme's ad breaks, leading to speculation MTV bosses plan to scrap the show after just two episodes on-air. But network bosses are adamant they will continue to broadcast the series, despite the fall out. An MTV spokeswoman tells Reuters, "The show is not cancelled. The next episode is going ahead on Monday." A statement from the network adds, "MTV stands by the US adaptation of Skins and the vision of its creator, Bryan Elsley."

WHY DID A MUSIC MAGAZINE GET EMBROILED IN THE MCCHRYSTAL/OBAMA SCANDAL?

The White House has summoned the top U.S. general in Afghanistan to Washington to explain controversial remarks critical of the Obama administration, U.S. military and Obama administration officials said on Tuesday.

The move comes a day after General Stanley McChrystal, the commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, apologized for comments by his aides insulting some of President Barack Obama's closest advisers in an article to be published in Rolling Stone magazine.

The controversy comes at an inopportune time for Obama, who already is dealing with huge BP Plc oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, trying to get financial industry reform legislation through Congress and hoping to prevent Republicans from taking back control of Congress in November elections.

An Obama administration official said McChrystal had been directed to appear in person at Wednesday's Afghanistan meeting at the White House "to explain to the Pentagon and the commander-in-chief his quotes in the piece about his colleagues."

The military officials said McChrystal would be flying from Kabul on Wednesday. It was not immediately clear whether McChrystal would be ousted.

The Rolling Stone article, to be published on Friday, also quoted an aide describing McChrystal's "disappointment" with his initial one-on-one meeting with Obama last year.

RAPPER M.I.A STIRRING CONTROVERSY WITH THE LATEST VIDEO.

If singer/rapper M.I.A.'s purpose was to get people talking about her new single "Born Free," she succeeded.

The Sri Lankan-born artist debuted the graphic video on Monday. Immediately, fans took to social media to debate its scenes of military force, violence and brutality.

"M.I.A. is a provocateur and someone who tries to rile people up in a variety of ways," said Saul Austerlitz, author of "Money for Nothing: A History of the Music Video from the Beatles to the White Stripes."

"I think one of the main routes that she takes to that end is the political, and this video has a lot of political resonances, things like Guantanamo, the Iraqi insurgency and the Taliban all sort of jumbled together and rebranded."

The almost nine-minute video for the song from her upcoming album includes nudity as well as scenes of brutality. Directed by filmmaker Romain Gavras, the video revolves around the rounding up of red-headed young men by a group of military commandos.

At one point, a boy is shot point-blank in the head and another young man is blown to pieces.

During a recent interview, Trina opened up about the lost phone.

"I lost my phone and I had some pictures of me that I don’t want the world to see,” Trina said in an interview. “And I’m thinking, if it ever comes out, I’m devastated, but I mean, it’s not sex tape pictures but still, I don’t want you to see them, they’re not for you. But losing a phone and all this stuff happens.” She continued “but it’s a wake up call…I just feel like, what’s personal is personal. I don’t feel like, as an artist, like I need to do anything to expose myself. I don’t need to put out a nude photo for press…I don’t need a sex tape of me and my, my significant other to be worldwide, for the world to see.”

My take is that the scumbag trying to extort her for $100,000 should be arrested by the cops. Trina should not tolerate it. I REFUSE to post the videos of the naked pictures and all these alleged STD rashes with Kenyon Martin etc. We love Trina too much at HipHossip for that shyt!

UGLY Camilla condemns Beyoncé's 'terrifying' gangster rap videos for glorifying sex and violence .

The Duchess of Cornwall yesterday spoke for the first time about the way youngsters are sexualised by explicit rap videos.

Camilla was taking part in a discussion with victims of sexual violence during a visit to a rape crisis centre when the topic turned to how music videos affect teenagers today.

She told an audience of women that children thought they could get away with things because teachers failed to punish them.

Referring to the images children are exposed to, the Duchess said: 'A lot of those videos are terrifying.

'I am sure they trigger a response in some of the young people. I can never understand how they can get away with making those things.'

The Duchess has until now avoided speaking in public on social issues.

Her stance has been in marked contrast to Charles' first wife, Diana, Princess of Wales, who was renowned for the way in which she tackled controversial issues.

Yesterday the Duchess made clear her concern that youngsters are already becoming immune to such images of sex and violence.

She said schools needed to become involved in teaching both male and female schoolchildren 'the value of respect for each other'.

During the discussions, the subject turned to a controversial video by pop singer Beyonce, who is particularly popular with young girls.
