"I just react -- boom -- get off me, you know," Gordy says in the video, taking a swing through the air as he speaks. "And I didn't take it any further than that. I just wanted the man not to touch me; that's it."

Gordy says that Romney's wife, Ann, screamed and that the plane returned to the gate before two police officers escorted him off. After being detained briefly, he was allowed to buy a ticket for another flight.

Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom had no comment Friday about whether Gordy was the man with whom Romney had the confrontation. But aides said this week that Romney told them he thought the other person was a band member. Read the rest

Rapper John Forte is one of 16 people to receive a pardon or reduced sentence from George Bush before he leaves office January 20, 2009. Forte, 33, a first-time offender, was convicted of possessing the 31 pounds of cocaine with intent to distribute and was sentenced to a minimum of 14 years at Fort Dix, N.J.

With the commutation, Forte will be released Dec. 22, after serving just over seven years. He still faces five years of supervised probation.

John Edward Forte of North Brunswick, N.J., a graduate of the elite Phillips Exeter Academy prep school who later became a producer for the rap group The Fugees and released two albums on his own, was caught in 2000 at Newark International Airport with two briefcases filled with $1.4 million worth of liquid cocaine, according to court documents. Among vocal advocates on Forte’s behalf have been singer Carly Simon, along with her son James, and Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).

“Now is the perfect opportunity for John to be given the chance to provide positive benefits to society through his considerable musical talents,” Hatch wrote to Bush in a January 2007.

He arrived at his polling site — a school in midtown Manhattan — in the morning and waited in line as a bevy of media prepared to capture the moment.

Diddy said he believed he was potentially making history by voting for the first black president, and also felt the weight of the past in the voting booth.

RAPPER T.I. DEEMED ELIGIBLE TO VOTE

Convicted felon T.I. has been deemed eligible to exercise his vote in the upcoming U.S. election - after finding a loophole in Georgia law. The Whatever You Like hitmaker, real name Clifford Harris Jr., is facing a one year prison sentence in March next year (09) after pleading guilty to illegal possession of three machine guns and two silencers following his 2007 arrest.

The star assumed his current legal status meant he was ineligible to vote in the presidential elections next week (04Nov08), so was surprised to learn that unless he was serving probation or a prison sentence, he was still able to perform his civic duty.

And the rapper, who has been encouraging youths to go out and vote, took advantage of the rule on Wednesday (29Oct08) morning when he rushed out to a polling station in Atlanta to register his first ever vote. Brandishing a sticker reading 'I'm a Georgia Voter', he says, "It's a relief.

This what it is all about, not staying up late and waking up early to vote. Now rather than just talking about it, I'm being about it. I'm leading by example, and it makes me feel a lot better." And his lawyer Steve Sadow insists T.I. is fully entitled to vote.

He adds, "Until he is sentenced in the federal case, he doesn't have a conviction yet. Even though he is a convicted felon, he has a right to vote since he is not serving probation and hasn't started his prison sentence." T.I. has previously served time for firearms, drug and assault offences.

Rap superstar JAY-Z will play another free concert to rally support for U.S. presidential candidate BARACK OBAMA in the run up to the election. The Big Pimpin' star has already backed Obama's White House campaign by playing a free gig in Detroit, Michigan earlier this month (Oct08). A second date, scheduled for 5 October in Miami, Florida, had to be scrapped after the rapper suffered a throat illness.

But he is to give the Democrat's ticket one last push with a show in Cleveland next Wednesday (29Oct08). The event will be hosted by basketball star LeBron James.

No word yet if that gig will be canned since Obama is down in Hawaii taking care of his grandma.

USHER RELEASES A VOTING SONG FOR THE US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS.

R&B hunk USHER has released a new song urging his fans to vote in the upcoming U.S. presidential election on 4 November (08). The singer has debuted Hush on iTunes.com as part of his continued national call-to-service for young people. Usher, who is the youth chairman of the Service Nation Summit - attended by over 500 Service Leaders including John McCain, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush - will donate a portion of the proceeds to charity group the New Look Organization.

Usher has already led youth rallies, organised voter registration drives and stepped forward to participate in voter registration public service announcements for Leonardo DiCaprio's DoSomething.org and CNN's League of First Time Voters. He says, "Hush is about my awakening over the past 10 years to the social issues in our country and realising that I have a voice. Friday night’s often-testy debate with Republican nominee John McCain, specifically McCain’s repeated assertions that his experience makes him the stronger candidate and that Obama “just doesn’t understand” the complexities of issues like foreign policy and the economy.

“I don’t get taken aback by that kind of stuff. The problem was, every time he said it, when he tried to follow it up with an actual statement about policy or his positions about what it was he presumably understood or did ‘get,’ it didn’t make much sense,”

Obama told MTV News’ Sway Calloway. “If you look at Iraq, for example, the question was asked, ‘What lessons have you learned?’ and his lesson was ‘Well, we should just stay.’ Well, that’s not a policy. … The question was ‘Should we have gone?’ He says that because he doesn’t have a record to defend himself. We’ve become accustomed in our politics to folks just being able to make stuff up — it’s one of the few areas of public life where the standards somehow are lowered in terms of what you say about other people,” he continued.

“For example, he suggested that I’m talking about raising everybody’s taxes, when every analyst has shown I’m actually calling for a tax cut for 95 percent of [American] families.” “I am talking cutting the taxes for Nurses, Bus Drivers, Cops….not for big time MTV host.”
