History is lurking all over this picture as we see 13-year-old Toronto Rapper L'il Jaxe  in some dressing room with.........SAY WHAT? The Sugarhill Gang? That's who I see in this picture taken TODAY at the YPI event for youth in Toronto, Canada.

As you know it's been barely 24 hours since the legendary Sugarhill Gang’s classic, “Rappers Delight,” was amongst the 25 recordings that were inducted into the United States Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry on Wednesday (May 23).

The registered recording reads as follows:

“Rapper’s Delight,” Sugarhill Gang (1979)
The Sugarhill Gang’s infectious dance number from late 1979 might be said to have launched an entire genre. Although spoken word had been a component of recorded American popular music for decades, this trio’s rhythmic rhyming inspired many future MCs and rap artists. The album version of “Rapper’s Delight” is an epic 14 1/2 minute salvo of irreverent stories and creative wordplay. The song dates from hip-hop’s infancy. As such, it does not address subject matter that has given rap music both positive and negative notoriety, but the song’s inventive rhymes, complex counter-rhythms and brash boastfulness presage the tenets of hip hop. “Rapper’s Delight” also reflects an early instance of music sampling, drawing its bass line and other features from Chic’s 1979 hit “Good Times.” As a result of an out-of-court settlement for copyright infringement, songwriting credits for “Rapper’s Delight” include that song’s composers, Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards, as well as Sylvia Robinson and the Sugarhill Gang (Michael Wright, Guy O’Brien, and Henry Jackson).”

From its opening lines, Sugerhill’s 1979 classic, “Rapper’s Delight,” grabbed listeners’ ears with: “I said a hip, hop, the hippie – the hippie/To the hip hip-hop, and you don’t stop/The rock it to the bang-bang, boogie say “up jump” the boogie to the rhythm of the boogie: the beat.”

L'il Jaxe who is the rapper with the stuttering speech problem that disappears when he RAPS is the one to be in this picture. This picture itself should be framed and HUNG in some hall of fame. The creators of the LONGEST RAP SONG in history, almost 14:30 minutes "Rappers Delight" defined hip-hop. 

I have NOT seen these dudes since I was 15-years-old!!! I am almost 48!! It was at a concert in Nigeria when they were younger and performed that hit and my fave "The Lover in you." Remember the 280Z? That was that Nissan 2-seater sports car. The voice of these rappers was so DYNAMIC. Jaxe, I need to join your entourage and know your movement.

RUN DMC HEADING TO BROADWAY MUSICAL.

Legendary hip-hop group Run-Dmc is to be immortalised on stage in a new Broadway musical. Tom Cruise's former producing partner Paula Wagner is in talks to create a show about the rappers' rise to fame. Wagner admits she has long wanted to bring Run-DMC to the stage and is delighted the project seems to be moving forward at last.

She tells Variety.com, "I feel their story lends itself perfectly to the stage. This project has been a passion of mine for some time and I couldn't be more thrilled to be working with them."
The It's Like That hitmakers split in 2002 following the murder of longtime member Jason 'Jam-Master Jay' Mizell.

METALLICA AND RUN-DMC TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME.

Metallica are to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The heavy metal act - who shot to fame in the early 80s - will be honoured in April alongside former Yardbirds guitarist Jeff Beck and hip-hop pioneers Run DMC. Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich revealed he and his bandmates are delighted with the honour. He said: "It shows we are part of the big picture. We are a link in a chain of everyone that's come before and everyone that's come after you. I love how it all fits together." Jeff - who has collaborated with artists including Sir Mick Jagger and Stevie Wonder - was previously inducted into the Hall of Fame with his former band The Yardbirds in 1992.

News of his solo inclusion in this year's honours list came as Jeff announced "big plans" for more tours and new material after signing with manager Harvey Goldsmith. Run DMC - rappers Joseph 'Run' Simmons, Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels and late DJ Jam Master J - were the first hip-hop act to receive worldwide mainstream success and have a platinum-selling album.

Darryl has branded their inclusion "ridiculous", saying: "I'm a rap dude, I'm an MC from Hollis, just rocking the mic, and to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with The Beatles and Bob Dylan, and the rock 'n' roll gods? It's ridiculous! Ridiculous in a good way. "I share this nomination and the induction and the whole award with those cats, everyone from the Bronx and Harlem who started this." Joining Metallica, Jeff and Run DMC at the ceremony, which takes place in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 4, will be doo-wop group Little Anthony and The Imperials and '60s soul singer Bobby Womack.

Wanda Jackson will be inducted as an early influence, while Bill Black, DJ Fontana and Spooner Oldham will be honoured as Sidemen. This year's ceremony marks 25 years of the Hall of Fame and sees it return to its home city for the first time in more than 10 years.

FORMER RAPPER WILL SMITH DOES NOT WANT ANY MORE KIDS!

WILL SMITH has given up on the idea of having more kids because it doesn't fit into his 40-year plan with wife JADA PINKETT SMITH. The movie star has three children - two by Pinkett Smith - and has often hinted about expanding his brood, but, after turning 40 in September (08), he decided that was no longer part of his future.

He tells USA Today, "Jada and I sat down and asked, 'Where do we see ourselves?' We went to 40 years from now. "We see ourselves someplace where there are seasons... We think there's mountains. We think we live on a golf course. "We don't have more children - we have grandchildren." And the Smiths have big charity plans: "We are the greatest philanthropists that America has ever seen. We're gonna try and get up there with Bill and Melinda Gates."

SAD NEWS: Flint, Michigan rapper MC Breed dies at 37.

The legendary Michigan rapper known as MC Breed has died at the age of 37.
According to Detroit news. Influential Flint rapper MC Breed, who was one of the first Midwest rappers to emerge onto the national hip-hop scene, has died, his manager has confirmed to The Detroit News. Breed was 37.

Breed, who scored a hit with his 1991 lo-fi classic "Ain't No Future in Yo' Frontin'" and later collaborated with a young Tupac Shakur, was found dead on Saturday at a friend's home in Ypsilanti, according to Darryl Morris, Breed's manager. No further details were available as of press time. You will remember I did a story on him earlier this year on 3 women who help send him to jail for 5 months over not paying $200,000 in child support.

Breed, whose given name was Eric Breed, had recently been wrestling with health issues and was admitted to a hospital in his adopted home of Atlanta in September after suffering from kidney failure, according to reports. The rapper was put on life support, according to reports, and had only 30 percent functionality of his kidneys. Plans were put in place to throw a benefit concert for the rapper to raise money for his medical bills, but they were put on hold when his condition seemed to improve.

Breed's biggest hit was "Ain't No Future in Yo' Frontin'," from his 1991 debut album, "MC Breed & D.F.C." The song sampled Zapp's "More Bounce to the Ounce" and the Ohio Players' "Funky Worm" and found Breed not only bragging about his hometown of Flint but also stating his goals for the highest office in the land. "If I was the President, then I would state facts," he rapped, "you leave it up to me, I'll paint the White House black."

Breed bolstered his cred when he collaborated with Shakur on "Gotta Get Mine," the lead single from his third album, 1993's "The New Breed." The song came just as Shakur was just starting to earn his bad-boy-of-rap reputation, and it reached No. 6 on Billboard's Hot Rap Singles chart.

Over the course of his nearly 20-year career, Breed also worked with Too $hort, the D.O.C., Warren G and more. While never achieving full-fledged mainstream success, Breed was respected in hip-hop circles for his work ethic and his lucid, scratchy-voiced flow.

He recorded 13 albums, and released an album a year between 1991 and 2001. His final album, "The New Prescription," was released in 2004.

Detroit rapper Trick Trick says he looked up to MC Breed.

"I salute him for everything he did," Trick said Saturday. "It was good to see him break out of Flint. It gave a lot of us hope, like, 'We can do this, too.'"

Breed's career cooled considerably in recent years, and he spent eight months in prison for a parole violation that was a result of unpaid child support. In April, a Flint judge sentenced him to 60 days in jail as a result of owing more than $200,000 in unpaid child support to three different women.

ROOTS IN BUS CRASH LAST NITE AND WE HEAR LEAD MAN QUESTLOVE WAS BLOGGING IT IN AMBULANCE!

The Roots were involved in a serious tour bus crash en route to Paris last night (November 19).

The Philadelphia band, who were heading to the French capitol to perform at a gig with Kanye West tonight, reportedly came out of the accident with nothing more than minor injuries.

Blogging from the ambulance on the way to the hospital, Ahmir '?uestlove' Thompson described what happened.

"In reality the crash was all of about 7 seconds....but to do a 360 on the highway and end up ramped up (the van that crashed into ours was UNDER our double decker bus) in the air....is....well... a frigging miracle."

He added, "Dog we are soooo alive right now."

?uestlove explained that the band suffered injuries resulting in "cuts and neck braces," and that they are incredibly grateful that the accident wasn't more serious. "That was divine intervention. We are so grateful for this outcome," he said.

It is not yet known whether the band will be able to perform at tonight's gig or their forthcoming dates throughout Europe, reports Pitchfork.

EPMD TO RELEASE FIRST ALBUM IN NINE YEARS

Legendary hip-hop duo EPMD are heading back into the studio to record their first album in nine years. Erick Sermon and Parish Smith have not released any new material together since 1999's Out of Business - but they are gearing up for a comeback this winter (09Dec08).

The pair has recruited help from Raekwon, Keith Murray, Havoc from Mobb Deep, and rap pioneer KRS-One for the album's tracks, while the LP will be produced by the likes of Teddy Riley and 9th Wonder.

RAPPER TOO SHORT FORMS RAP/R&B GROUP.

Hip-hop veteran TOO SHORT has formed a new group with local artists from his native Oakland, California. The rapper has recruited Silk E, Martin Luther and Elijah Baker - formerly of Tony! Toni! Tone! - to form Town Bizness. But the funk/rock inspired first single Red Bull & Vodka, is far from the gritty street rhymes many Too Short fans are used to.

He says, "The group is a combination of artists, musicians, writers and producers united under the love of making good music." The band's currently untitled album will be released on Too Short's imprint, Up All Night Records, reports AllHipHop.com.

Don Cornelius of 'Soul Train' arrested in LA.

Don Cornelius, the former host of the television show "Soul Train," was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, police said Saturday.

Police were called to his Hollywood Hills home late Friday after someone reported a domestic dispute, Officer Sam Park said.

The 72-year-old producer was taken to jail, where he was booked for investigation of felony domestic violence, Park said. He was released on $50,000 bail and ordered to appear in court next month.

Park said he did not know whom Cornelius was suspected of assaulting.

A call to Cornelius' production office was not immediately returned.

Cornelius started "Soul Train" in 1970 to showcase black music and culture, introducing television audiences to such legendary artists as Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye and Barry White. The series spawned a franchise that includes the Soul Train Music Awards, the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards and the Soul Train Christmas Starfest.

Cornelius stepped down as "Soul Train" host in 1993.

Comic book creator STAN LEE wants to make WILL SMITH the first black CAPTAIN AMERICA - if BARACK OBAMA wins the presidential election. A movie version of the Marvel graphic novel is being planned for 2011. Matthew McConaughey's name has been linked with the role - but Lee hints it could go to Smith, if Obama becomes the first black president.

Lee tells Moviefone, "I would love us to do something with Will Smith. It would be a real leap to make Captain America black... then again, I don't know. It might be a really smart thing. If Barack Obama becomes President who knows... suddenly a lot of our characters will be black!"

.....and what if Obama loses? The A-lister thing goes on for Will anyway!

LEGENDARY RAPPER MC BREED TAKEN OFF LIFE SUPPORT BUT STILL ON CLOSE WATCH.

TMZ is reporting that Old school rapper MC Breed has been taken off life support -- in a good way -- after being admitted to the hospital Friday because of kidney failure.

Breed -- who's worked with 2Pac and Too Short -- collapsed while he was shooting hoops in Atlanta. We're told Breed's kidneys are only 30% functional and it's likely he'll need a kidney transplant. MC is still in the hospital -- where he's slowly recognizing faces and voices -- and will remain there for at least another week under observation.

LL COOL J BLASTS PRESIDENT BUSH IN A NEW SONG!

LL COOL J has launched a scathing attack on U.S. president GEORGE W. BUSH in a new song. Following in fellow rappers Nas and Q-Tip's footsteps, the hip-hop star real name James Todd Smith III - hits out at the leader and his involvement in the Iraq war in a track entitled Mr President . He tells the New York Daily News, "It's all about what I'd like to ask (him).
Tell me how to set that up (a meeting with Bush), and I would be there in a heartbeat. " He raps in the track: "
