Lil' Wayne, the hottest rapper of the last year, arrived at the Air Canada Centre on Thursday night with his so-called I Am Music tour.
Anticipation was high for the first headlining trek by the 26-year-old prolific, tattooed, scratchy-voiced and dreadlocked New Orleans native, whose sixth album, Tha Carter III, was not only the biggest selling disc of 2008 in the U.S. – it sold a staggering million plus copies in its first week alone – but also leads this year's Grammy contest with eight nominations including album of the year.
All that, and recent eight-time gold medal swimmer Michael Phelps admitted to listening to Lil' Wayne's I'm Me on his iPod while getting psyched up before each race in Beijing.
Before the rapper, who stands five-foot-six, even took the stage last night, the crowd of 14,500 was chanting "Weezy! Weezy!" in a shout-out to his nickname Weezy F. Baby.
