GRAMMY BACKLASH AND WINS: ARCADE FIRE FINISHES OF AS BEST ALBUM. REAL CANADIAN EXPLOSION!

Arcade Fire looked as stunned as anyone when their name was called as the winner of the Album of the Year trophy at Sunday night's Grammy Awards. While the Canadian collective's fans and some critics may have been holding out hope that a genuinely independent rock band could overcome the odds and beat out such major mainstream stars as Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and the night's big winners, Lady Antebellum, it seemed like a real long shot that The Suburbs would pull it off. It honestly never even crossed my mind, at all," singer Win Butler told "Access Hollywood"about the possibility that his band could take home the night's top honor.

"The heavy-hitter vote was divided," he added, as he and his bandmates speculated that they must have gotten the underdog vote."People love underdog movies," suggested Butler."Access Hollywood" also asked the band what went through their minds after they finished up their performance, then won the Grammy and went right back and played another song to close out the show. Was that the plan all along? "Win or lose we were going up there," said percussionist/keyboardist William Butler, Win's brother.

But, his bandmates laughed, it was a much happier performance after the surprise victory. As for how Arcade Fire were going to celebrate the triumph, they predicted it would be a mostly friends-and-family affair probably involving some ice cream. "We're a huge band and we can't get into any parties because we roll 30 deep," joked Win about the seven-member group's large contingent.
