Bryan Finlay, an Edmonton-based recording artist best known for winning the Seventh Annual 91.7 The Bounce Showdown, has just been rewarded with another career-changing honour. The 18-year-old is being honoured as Bell Media’s Emerging Artist of the Month for July.
Bell Media selects one up-and-coming Canadian musician for the honour each month, which means the artist selected has his or her song feature played on Bell Media owned radio stations across Canada. Past recipients of this honour include Alyssa Reid, Kuba Ohms and Nate Hall, among others. For the month of July, listeners will enjoy Finlay’s hit song, “All I Can Do,” on Top 40, Adult AC and Hot AC stations.
“When I found out I was going to be the Bell Media Emerging Artist for July, I freaked out,” saidBryan Finlay. “I know how much exposure an artist can get with this, and I’m proud to represent Edmonton, and truly grateful to be the Bell Media Emerging Artist for July.”
Finlay’s music career has taken off since winning The Bounce Showdown. “All I Can Do,” was also featured on the hit Canadian teen drama, Degrassi. He was also recently nominated for the Edmonton Music Awards’ (EMAs) “Male Artist of the Year.”
Finlay also recently wowed a crowed of thousands at Boonstock, one of Canada’s biggest music festivals, and in the spring released a new song to Top 40 radio stations locally. “Good Times,” co-written by Finlay and Dan Davidson of Tupelo Honey fame, was immediately featured on Edmonton’s 104.9 Virgin Radio.
It’s hard to know what the Bell Media Emerging Artist honour could do for the future of Finlay’s music career, but the kid with ‘the voice’ is focused, fired up and dedicated to follow in the footsteps of fellow The Bounce Showdown winners Kreesha Turner and Q-Benjamin and open more doors to bigger opportunities.
He’s off to a great start so far.
