HIPHOSSIP#5 Our 5th anniversary: Did you hear it? I think I did! The King on receiving his award on the BET hip-hop awards 2008 show, so many of you called me when Rapper Shawty Lo accepted his Rookie of the Year award. After thanking everyone, he said something like "HipHossip, I see you!" I was walking to the balcony when I stopped in my tracks and then my phones started ringing. Go Shawty and congratulations again.

THE 2010 BET HIP-HOP AWARDS NOMINATIONS ARE OUT WITH JAY-Z LEADING WITH ELEVEN!!

Rap superstar Jay-Z will lead the way at the 2010 BET Hip-Hop Awards after scoring 11 nominations.

The hip-hop mogul is up for the top prizes of Lyricist of the Year, Best Live Performer and CD of the Year for "The Blueprint 3", while his Alicia Keys collaboration "Empire State of Mind" has put him in the running for the Track of the Year and Perfect Combo titles.

Jay-Z will have stiff competition from the likes of Lil Wayne proteges Drake and Nicki Minaj they've scored eight and six nominations, respectively. All three artists will battle it out with Eminem and Wayne for Lyricist of the Year, and Jay-Z will face his pal Kanye West in the Best Live Performer category, alongside Drake, Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes.

The CD of the Year award category will be a scrap between Jay-Z's "The Blueprint 3", Drake's "Thank Me Later", Eminem's "Recovery", Rick Ross' "Teflon Don" and "B.o.B Presents The Adventures of Bobby Ray" by B.o.B.

Jay-Z dominates the Best Hip-Hop Video category with three nods - "Empire State of Mind", "Run This Town" and "On to the Next One" will go up against B.o.B.'s "Nothin' on You" and Drake's "Find Your Love". Meanwhile, Minaj scores nods in the Hustler of the Year and Rookie of the Year categories, and T.I.'s career comeback gets a boost with two nominations.

Other artists vying for recognition at this year's ceremony include Diddy-Dirty Money, J. Cole, Waka Flocka Flame and Gucci Mane. Comedian Mike Epps will host the upcoming awards show, which will air on U.S. TV on October 12.

Tonite Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 8 PM* make a date with comedian Mike Epps, for one of the most exciting nights with the premiere of the 2009 BET HIP-HOP AWARDS.

At 8 PM Jay Z and Young Jeezy kick off the hottest show on television with a performance of as “Real as It Gets” followed by performances and appearances from Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliott, Monica, Fabolous, DJ Khaled, The Dream, Tiny and Toya, Jim Jones, Wale, Gucci Mane, Mario, OJ Da Juiceman, Soulja Boy Tell’em, Chuck D, Plies, DJ Drama, Shawty Lo, Fonzworth Bentley, Lil Scrappy, Dorrough, Nipsey Hussle, Goodie Mob, Big Boi, and Ludacris, who performed his brand-new single for the first time, “How Low” on the 2009 BET HIP-HOP AWARDS stage.

Taped in Atlanta’s Boisfeuillet Jones Civic Center, the 2009 BET HIP-HOP AWARDS celebrates the biggest names in the game – both on the mic and in the community. The audience was privy to a whopping 10 performances, 3 hip-hop cyphers, which featured KRS-One, Eminem, Black Thought, Mos Def, Wale, GSpan, Nipsey Hussle, Joe Budden, Buck Shot, Crown Royyal, and the only female in the crew Nicki Minaj; and a tribute to women in hip-hop honoring Fatima Robinson, and Missy Elliot for their significant contributions to the hip-hop culture with their art, creativity, originality and pure talent.

The evening was also full of stirring moments along with Mike Epps’ many wardrobe changes, the New Boyz were schooled by Kid ‘n Play; T.I.’s better half, Tiny accepted numerous awards on T.I.’s behalf and read an email-acceptance note he personally wrote from jail; and Brooklyn’s finest, Jay Z was awarded the first award of the night, MVP of the Year by Dirty Money. Veteran rapper, Ice Cube received the “I AM HIP HOP” Icon Award which is presented to an individual who, during their lifetime, has made notable contributions of outstanding significance to the hip-hop community.

This year “Hip Hop Cares” spotlighted 50 Cents’ G-Unity Foundation, Busta Rhymes’ affiliation with RockCorps, Jim Jones service to Entertainers Alliance for Education Foundation and Young Jeezy’s Street Dreams Foundation.

Tameka "Tiny" Cottle, who is in a long-term relationship with rap star T.I., came up to accept several awards on his behalf, including CD of the year. (T.I. is in prison for weapons charges.) She read a statement from T.I., who defiantly wrote, "To all the rappers, MCs and critics: I'm coming back with a vengeance!"

And with tunes such as Lil' Scrappy's "Addicted to Money" and Fabolous' "Throw It in the Bag," hip-hop is still happy to embrace consumerism in the face of a debt-ridden economy.

Atlanta's reunited Goodie Mob closed out the show with two of their hits, including "Get Rich To This," which features lyrics, "I get the funds, then I split with it." But that was written in 2000, when the economy was healthy.

The funniest snafu came from host Mike Epps. He introduced video for choreographer Fatima Robinson and accidentally said Missy Elliott - twice. On his third try, he just said, "let's see the video."

A not-so-funny snafu: Epps congratulated President Barack Obama for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. He then noted incorrectly that Obama was the first African American to do so -- just down the street from a center dedicated to a particular Atlanta Nobel Peace Prize winner named Martin Luther King Jr.

Ice Cube received the "I Am Hip-Hop" icon award.

"DJ of the Year" went to DJ AM, the celebrity spinner who died of an accidental drug overdose in August.

Ice Cube said he was humbled by the award, and he believes his career as filmmaker could earn him more honors in the future. He helped launch the gangsta rap genre with the group NWA, and he starred in "Barbershop" and "Friday," which he also co-wrote.

"When you get recognized by your peers for a life of work, you got to be humbled," the rap veteran said. "I'm honored by this. I have 20 more years of work left in me. I hope (BET) is ready to give out two of these awards."

Plies' big ass chain broke during his performance with Gucci Mane. LOL! Kid & Play made a surprise appearance. Gucci Mane performed too many times. Goodie Mob reunited to close the show with a hot performance. KANYE WEST WAS A NO-SHOW EVEN WITH 9 NOMINATIONS!

I thought Drake would win anyway. 7 pre-Grammy nominations, 1 BET hip-hop award and no album yet =very hard work! YAY! Watch Drake pick up his trophy October 27th 2009 on BET.

Hosted by actor and comedian Mike Epps, the hip-hop event of the year returns to Atlanta's Boisfeuillet Jones Civic Center on Saturday, October 10 to celebrate the biggest names in the game - both on the mic and in the community. The BET HIP-HOP AWARDS '09 will premiere Tuesday, October 27 at 8:00 PM.

The Hip-Hop Awards Voting Academy which is comprised of journalists, industry executives, and fans has nominated rapper, producer and style aficionado Kanye West for an impressive nine awards. Jay Z and Lil Wayne follow closely behind with seven nominations, and T.I. rounds things off with six nominations. Additionally, BET has added two new nomination categories to this year's show -- "Made-You-Look Award" (Best Hip Hop Style) which will go to the ultimate trendsetter and "Best Hip-Hop Blog Site," which will go to the online site that consistently keeps hip-hop fans in the know non-stop.

BET HIP-HOP AWARDS DRAMA--WAS KATT WILLIAMS REALLY FIRED FROM HOSTING DUTIES?

That Stephen Hill write up that T-Pain was taking over hosting duties at the BET hip-hop awards was FAKE! Katt Williams was reportedly fired! Here's what a source told the media......

“Katt has become difficult now that he’s a megastar,” one source tells us. “He was very demanding during rehearsals. He really berated one female member of the production company. He launched into a verbal assault on her in front of other people. I mean, he read her the riot act.

“Then he left the set and said he wouldn’t return unless she apologized. She wouldn’t. BET and the production company backed her up. Katt wouldn’t come back. Nobody was willing to budge.

“So the night before the show, they had no host. They were scrambling to find somebody. At 1 a.m., the night before the show, they called T-Pain. He agreed to do it, and started rehearsing the next morning for the show that evening.”

Anyway, the show went on and we LOVED IT! Missed it? IT'S ON rite now! 8-10pm EDT

THE BET HIP-HOP SUMMIT ON FRIDAY THE 17TH OF OCTOBER WITH RUSSELL SIMMONS AS PANEL LEADER.

Members of the panel included Ludacris, Chingy, Yung Joc, Mayor Shirley Frankin of Atlanta and Dr Benjamin Chavis formerly of the NAACP. The theme was called "Get your money right."

BTW, that below had a bed sheet on it to make it look like a bed. That gave a new meaning to the whole notion of hiding money under the mattress. This was money found in someone's house in Nigeria, my country. There was more in that house and not uncommon. It's usually a crooked politician's house and do you blame them? The banks are not safe!
