The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, has given an account of how soldiers allegedly targeted and murdered his three sons on Friday in Zaria after a pro-Palestinian rally. Basically these event will trigger even more violence and BOMB attacks in Zaria. Have we learned anything from the ongoing insurgency? I worked in Iraq in 2003 and I know that Shiites are stereotypially targeted by armies. But to kill 3 sons of an Islamic leader needs to be investigated. Did they pose a threat? Doesn't the Nigerian constitution allow freedom of rally? Hello! What's this bullshit??
Our army are known to KILL innocent Hausa (Northern Nigerian) children as it is. Meanwhile there is Damboa which Boko Haram has taken over and the disgraceful army cannot seize back. Lets do the killing where it's necessary. With the situation in Israel and Palestine, everyone has their own freedom of speech and expression in that one. Been to Tel-Aviv, seen the shit going on with the rocketrama, even Bibi Netanyahu is showing every leader in town collected warheads. What's with the blind hatred?
Sheikh Zakzaky’s three sons, Ahmad, Hameed and Mahmoud, were killed by soldiers alongside 32 others after the Quds Day rally.
Speaking after leading the Eid prayer in Hussainiyyah Baqiyatullah, Zaria, Zakzaky said his sons were specifically targeted, arrested and summarily executed in cold blood.
“As they targeted my sons for arrest, in the process they killed one, Mahmoud, whom they shot in the abdomen and he died. They also arrested three others, Ahmad, Hameed and Ali,” he said.
“Through a link we demanded them to release them to us, but the Commandant of the Basawa military barrack said he would not release them but rather will take them to ABU Teaching Hospital, Shika for medication.”
Sheikh Zakzaky said his sons “were in good condition when they were arrested. As they were boarding them into the vehicle, (an officer whose name is withheld) shot Ahmad three times and threw him into the vehicle. He was alive and talking then, they also broke his arms and legs.
“They started beating Ali, while Hameed was trying to protect him; they turned to Hameed and stabbed him several times with knives, even on his head. Ahmad was already dead, but Hameed was still talking and they shot Ali on his legs.”
Sheikh Zakzaky added that “when they realized that Hameed was still talking, they continued stabbing him with knives until they made sure he was dead before they reached the hospital.”
He said when he demanded for the release of his sons through the GOC 1 Mechanized Division, an officer said they would be released but not alive.
“By Allah’s infinite mercy, Ali is alive, he saw how his brothers were brutally murdered before his eyes,” the scholar said.
He said, “Ali is presently receiving medical attention, as a result of compound fracture on his leg, from the several shootings on his leg.”
Sheikh Zakzaky said “when this happened, people really sympathised with me without the usual display of difference instilled in them. They created groups fighting one another on the basis of sect, but with this nasty event the idea was eradicated completely.
“People should look outward for their enemy, not from within. They should know that we have a common enemy, emerging in different colours and shapes, sometimes in a religious aspect,” he said.
The Army Headquarters has said that soldiers acted in self defence when they came under fire. But the Shi’ites, who have not been known to be bearing arms, have denied this claim.
