OUR OWN SOLIDARITY FOR TRAYVON: NOT ALWAYS ABOUT THE RACE CARD.

#TORONTO4TRAYVON MARCH WAS HELD IN FRONT OF TORONTO CITY HALL ON SATURDAY MARCH 31ST 2012 AT 7pm

I organized this rally with another black community leader and former Mayoral candidate in Toronto Dewitt Lee. The Miami Herald reported  "In Canada, members of Occupy Toronto and others have promised to gather in front of Toronto City Hall at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, holding glow sticks as they march to the U.S. Embassy. The rally is aimed at “giving the Martin family support and solidarity, as well as repealing vigilante laws,” said Co-organizer Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo.
‘THIS IS HISTORY’
“We don’t know the family, and they don’t know us. But they need to know that Canada is here for them,’’ Omololu-Olunloyo said. “This is way passed hoodies, Skittles and iced tea. It’s history. We don’t want another Trayvon waiting in the wings.”

We had the rally with hundreds showing up and we kept the light on for Trayvon during Earth Hour in front of the US Embassy in Toronto. The local media followed us thruout the whole event. During the week, I did interviews with GlobalTV, Newstalk 1010 CFRB's John Moore and Randy Doyle's show (which got fiery) as Doyle says we blacks don't rally when our kids die right here in Toronto. There are several marches yearly but I work as a volunteer advocate getting families to speak out.
