MuchMusic announced yesterday that Canadian rap-superstar Drake and Canada’s reigning rock-pop group Hedley are set to blow the roof of the 2010 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS. Performing for the first time on the MMVAs’ stage, hometown boy-turned international phenom Drake returns to the city that gave him his start, while Hedley fans swoon over MuchMusic faves Jacob, Tom, Dave, and Chris. Don’t miss the biggest music party of the year live on Sunday, June 20 at 9 p.m. ET, with the MMVAs RED CARPET SPECIAL.
Drake
The Toronto-born actor and recording artist has become the fastest rising newcomer in hip-hop, scoring two Grammy® nods before the release of his debut album. Despite not being signed to a label, his first single “Best I Ever Had” reached #1 on Billboard Rap Charts and #2 on Billboard Hot 100. After an intense bidding war, Drake signed with Aspire/Cash Money/Young Money, and is set to release his highly anticipated debut album Thank Me Later on June 15. In April, Drake took home his first two JUNO Awards, while performing his single "Over". Drake is currently headlining his first major solo tour, the Away From Home Tour, which has sold out venues across US, Europe and Canada.
Hedley
Hedley fans last lost their minds when the band performed on the MMVAs stage in 2008, and the boys took home the most hardware that year, winning all major categories. Now, the Vancouver-based band returns to rock the stage on this year’s show. Hedley burst onto the music scene in 2005, and both their self-titled debut album and follow up album Famous Last Words are certified double platinum. Their third studio album, The Show Must Go, is certified platinum, and the album’s hit singles “Cha Ching” and “Don’t Talk to Strangers,” are double platinum on iTunes. A fan favourite, every Hedley video has reached #1 on the MuchMusic chart and the boys are sure to make this year’s MMVAs a night to remember. Catch Hedley on tour this summer and fall.
Thanks to Ashley Applebaum and Amy Doary as always for the releases to HipHossip.
