A Toronto event promoter who plummeted to his death last weekend from his apartment balcony was likely the victim of a botched robbery, police say.
Egbert Boothe, 43, was pronounced dead outside an apartment building at 2000 Sheppard Ave. West. on the evening of May 29. Police arrived on the scene after witnesses described seeing a man fall from the 15th floor.
However, after speaking with witnesses at the scene, it became clear the man did not commit suicide, Det. Sgt. Frank Skubic said at a news conference Friday morning.
Shortly before Boothe fell to his death, three men carrying guns and wearing disguises burst into his apartment, he said. Two suspects chased Boothe to the apartment balcony while a third suspect accosted Boothe's room mate on the couch, demanding money and jewelry.
