#HNNHealth STOP mocking ALS in the #ALSIceBucketChallenge. It is #MORONIC #HNNOpinion

Stop mocking we Pharmacists and Health care professionals and especially me a health care Journalist. We take a lot of time and integrity to EDUCATE people in the healthcare area. I am so mad seeing everyone on social media using Lou Gehrig's name in a crappy way but nobody even raising the funds needed. People are simply playing with ice buckets and soaking themselves. Even Nigerian celebrities are in on the act.

Amylotropic Lateral Sclerosis aka Lou Gehrig's disease—is a neurodegenerative disease with various causes. People suffer muscle spasticity, rapidly progressive weakness due to muscle atrophy, difficulty in speaking, swallowing and breathing. ALS is the most common of the five motor neuron diseases.

Last weekend, the co-founder of the #ALSIceBucketChallenge Corey Griffin who was my son's age, 27 DROWNED Saturday! Many of you do not even know yet you continue to make fun of this viral campaign he set u to help a diagnosed friend. He is dead now and I hate to say he KICKED the BUCKET.

Many of you in US and Canada and even Nigeria are just mocking the whole campaign by trying to copy stars and even my son nominated me for a challenge. Eni, we are not going to do it sorry. Think about those who came to my Pharmacy counter in Govans with ALS when Christina Brundick and I were managing the Pharmacy during the Procare years and we ordered $10,000 drugs for them.

Now Nigerians are getting into it, sending me bullshit videos to watch them throwing ice on their heads. Look at this tweet attached which tells you the magnitude of the stupidity.

To this guy, your hashtag is missing the term ALS!! When I call Nigerians Morons, they wonder why? He even hashtagged it a spoof. ALS is NOT a spoof. It is a real life medical condition and for many it is PAIN.

Ignorance does not excuse stupidity...Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo
