YOUR XMAS GIFT: RECORD BOSSES TO QUIT ILLEGAL DOWNLOAD LAWSUITS!

Record industry chiefs in the U.S. have pledged to quit taking legal action against music fans who illegally download songs. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) will cease launching lawsuits against the members of the public in favour of developing new technology to prevent music piracy on the internet.

In a statement, RIAA bosses announced they will not file any new suits, and will instead issue warnings through internet service providers to those caught illegally downloading music - but ongoing cases will still be pursued. If those given a warning fail to stop, their internet connection may be disconnected.

An RIAA spokeswoman added: "We think this is going to be a different form of stick, but we absolutely think this will be a meaningful alternative approach that will have a significant impact." The RIAA represents major record labels including Warner Music Group Corp, Sony Music, EMI, and Universal Music Group.

So I guess all you "limewiring" suspects got Santa on your side! 50 Cent says he doesn't care if you download his stuff!
