#BREAKING #Nigerian President Jonathan allegedly in secret talks to BLOCK Facebook from Nigeria (First on @HNNAfrica)

high ranking Political source told #HNNAfrica Tuesday that Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan reportedly reached out and spoke to Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg Tuesday to BLOCK Facebook from Nigeria due to excessive criticism of his government.

The Nigerian President who is also a Facebook user is said to be secretly speaking to the Facebook Founder. #HNNAfrica tried to reach Facebook but calls and e-mails were not returned.

Nigeria previously tried to enact a social media bill in the Senate back in 2013 targeting Nigerians that use social media primarily Facebook and Twitter to attack government policies and ongoing issues. Part of that proposed Senate bill was calling for stiff sentences as much as 10 years. It drew widespread outrage on social media.

Nigeria has been plagued with massive insurgency,  corruption and unemployment putting many citizens of Africa's most populous country on edge and many using social media to voice their opinions.

China banned Instagram after the Hong Kong protest hit a climax as well as Turkey who blocked Twitter during their own revolution in the last 12 months. Could Nigeria be the next country to block FREE SPEECH?

An e-mail was sent to Presidential Spokesman Doyin Okupe and #HNNAfrica awaits a response.
