An online video of a young woman being harassed by men while walking around Manhattan has been described as "shocking". A women's rights group in the United States is using the video, which racked up more than 1.1 million views in one day, to highlight the sort of harassment women experience every day.
This is not new, in Nigeria they will actually attack her and strip her naked if she dressed sleazier. I am hearing that when the video was posted online by the group, she got several rape threats.
Shoshana Roberts, who has a black belt in Taekwondo, volunteered for the Hollaback social experiment to highlight street harassment around the world.
The video, posted on YouTube today, shows the actress, who lives in New York, being verbally harassed as she walks around in silence wearing jeans, trainers and a crew-neck T-shirt.
She walks through a variety of different neighbourhoods and receives shout-outs from strangers varying from ‘good morning’ and ‘whats up’ to people actually following her.
