We are 5 hours ahead in Eastern time and just a day ago, our friend Irene Blackman told us that her dad, Jazz pianist, songwriter and producer Don Blackman has been hospitalized with stage four cancer. He passed away barely 24 hours later. He was 59. We are sorry to hear this Irene. We are touched in Nigeria, a country that has a ton of Jazz fans.

She asked we the fans to “please pray for us”. Stage Four cancer means that the cancer has spread to various parts of the human body. Don was a solo artist in his own right, releasing a self-titled album in 1982 that featured the hit ‘Heart’s Desire’, Blackman played with acts like Parliament / Funkadelic, Roy Ayers, Janet Jackson, Sting, Earth, Wind and Fire and more.
