#BREAKING: Nigerian President asks for Extension of State of Emergency.

The Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan, has asked for a six month extension to the state of emergency declared in three north-eastern states affected by Islamist violence. Mr Jonathan asked legislators for the extension because he said security challenges still existed in the region. The state of emergency was imposed in May in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, where the Islamist group Boko Haram is active.
