Educational Outcome in Osun state: Another year of colossal failure!
Regrettably for another year, the outcome of the investment in education in Osun state has come to nought. Although the results are pitiable all round, it is more so for us in Osun state. No other state in Nigeria has experienced such reversal in the fortunes and outcome of education in the face of high level of investment as Osun state has done. Placing 22nd among the league of states, only 19% of Osun state students scored 5 credits and above including English and Mathematics
It is no secret that these students can neither read nor write. More than a fair proportion of the 19% that have recorded success are from higher social class homes and private schools, where parents can afford the additional costs of after school lessons and private teaching. It is an open secret that many cannot afford the high cost of public education including the replacement of school uniforms, cost of desks and monthly payment for security in schools. Increasingly, children and young people in Osun state are out of school as parents groan under the siege the Aregbesola-led educational system has placed the future of the state.
This untenable situation is more alarming, given that the Aregbesola administration has spent over NGN 8billion naira on Opon Imo, in a highly flawed and profit driven application of technology for profit rather than for learning. Osun state indigenes have started to bear the long term burden of mismanagement of its educational system.
This must stop. The Rescue Mission has submitted that education is the wisest investment we can make. It is the asset that we give to our children today, that will not only build them individually, but shall also secure our own development and future. It is the wisest investment a government can make.
The dignity of education MUST be restored. Quality and quantity must work hand in hand to ensure that this disheartening trend is reversed. Reversing the educational initiatives and programmes of this reckless and irresponsible administration is certainly the way to progress. Propaganda based achievements can only result in poor performance that we now record year on year.
We shall do all possible to restore the confidence in the Osun state educational system. We shall be successful at the Tribunal. The Rescue Mission will protect our young people and parents from this sustained abuse
THE RESTORATION OF THE DIGNITY OF EDUCATION IN OSUN STATE MUST BE A PRIORITY FOR ALL!
