Two students were injured in a shooting incident at a Denver-area high school on Friday, and the suspect – who was a student at the school – has died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Arapahoe County Sheriff said.
Local authorities quickly cleared students from Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colo., bringing them outdoors to the school's athletic fields.
Sheriff Grayson Robinson said the suspect, who committed suicide, was a student at the school and had entered the building with a shotgun, the only weapon police found at the scene.
The student had apparently been searching for a teacher when another student got in his way and was shot. That student was in a hospital with critical injuries, officials said.
They said a second student was also injured, but less seriously and under unclear circumstances.
Police were looking for additional suspects as a precaution.
The school is about 8 miles east of Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., where two teenage shooters in 1999 killed 12 classmates and a teacher before taking their own lives.
Centennial is a suburban community south of Denver.
