SABC television and radio presenter Vuyo Mbuli has died in a Bloemfontein hospital, SABC News reported.
The 46-year-old collapsed while watching a rugby match between the Reds and the Cheetahs at Free State Stadium on Saturday night.
Mbuli was stabilised at the scene before being taken to a Mediclinic hospital.
The cause of death has yet to be determined, a family spokesperson told SABC.
"We would like to say we are deeply saddened the loss of the country is the loss of the people of the Free State, may all be consoled, for the fact that he touched their lives in a positive way," Free State government spokesperson Mondli Mvambi was quoted as saying.
Veteran journalist Mandy Wiener tweeted that "the media fraternity is poorer this morning" after Mbuli's loss.
Cosatu secretary-general Zwelinzima Vavi tweeted, "I am shocked and devastated by the death of Vuyo Mbuli. I believe journalism and SA is waking up poorer today. He was so humble and respectful".
