As I Lay Dying lead singer allegedly wants to put the name of the band in his wife's mouth as I hear he tried to hire a killer to eliminate her.

Tim Lambesis, 32, was arrested at a retail business in Oceanside, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said in a statement. The statement said detectives received information Thursday that Lambesis had solicited someone to kill his wife, Meggan, who lives in nearby Encinitas with their three adopted children. Police had previously learned Lambesis was looking for someone to carry out the killing, San Diego County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Jan Caldwell said.

‘The information came to us late last week. We acted quickly on it. I believe that we averted a great tragedy,’ she said.

Meggan Lambesis filed papers in San Diego Superior Court in September 2012 seeking a dissolution of marriage, according to an online court database.

A representative for the As I Lay Dying's record label, Metal Blade, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Lambesis’ band in recent days had been touring in Asia. On Monday, the 32-year-old vocalist said on his Twitter page: ‘Goodbye China. I'll be home in about 15 hours.’

According to its website, the band is scheduled to tour the country with several other metal acts starting later this month.
